  • Obviously, none of you were around in this time period. The Rangers were sex symbols when Duguay was around.

  • The Devils suck but at least you don't see them doing this shit.

  • Nine - teen Eighty - three!

  • BEAT YOUR WIFE POTVIN!!!! Clap...clap...clap clap clap!!!

  • Potvin Sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @hiberniall Didn't matter who we were playing. POTVIN SUCKS! would always rain down from the blue seats. Glorious.

  • my dad is Maurice Sasson, the real owner when this commercial was made ... Vidal is not the same as jeans Sasson i hope you all know, Sasson jeans was the one that sued the man who copy the name.

  • thats exactly why potvin, smith, trottier were builidng a dynasty in new york while these fools were cross town doing blow and silly adds for madison ave. they helped 1940 live as long as it did

  • Now this is more like it! Ooh La LA SASSOON! The audio is right, however the video is from after SASSOON had to drop one of the O's & sing: "Ooh La La Sasson..." after Vidal Sassoon sued the jeans company. OH WELL!

  • Rangers were making gay Jeans commercials while The Islanders were building a Dynasty .. You always have the Edmonton Chicago NY Rangers of 94

  • @cjf7991 the islanders haven't won since 1983, LMAO. They are a joke this year and will be next year, you can put that in the bank

  • @cjf7991 Funny, you don't mention that two of the three '94 Cup heroes, Leetch and Richter, were Ranger born and bred. And the Islanders had plenty of empty seats only a year after the last Cup of their "Dynasty"...as well as tons of empty seats with every "tribute night" for their Cup-winning biggest stars....pathetic.

  • Thanks sassoon ranger video, for reminding me why I have been a loyal Islanders fan since 1987..

  • Ron Dugay had the best hair in hockey, not the best hockey hair

  • I waited in line for two hours for Ron Dugays autograph, when I finally got to him hes face was all bruised up from a fight the night before. But I didn't care, got Espos autograph too.

  • If you read Esposito's memoir, he says Walt Tkzachuk and Rod Gilbert were dicks to him.

  • I havent seen this video in ages thank goodness LOL. again espo could put in rebounds but he could never sing LOL.

  • its so funny

  • Wow was that gay.... not that there is anything wrong with that.

  • They would have never done stuff like this during the days of Eddie Giacomin and Rod Gilbert.

  • nice bums

  • I remember this commercial!

  • Ironic that one of them is named do-Gay

  • @AlisoViejoMan Ironic how you're gay as well.

  • @avalanchesuperstar man aren't we lacking a sense of humor

  • while the rags were skating in jeans the Isles were busy winning Cups

  • @KenneWilleJ1102 What have the Isles been busy doing for the last 26 years?

  • oo la la you suck

  • This was in the early 1980s, when the Rangers were still in their long cup drought. At Madison Square garden, frustrated fans would sing, "Ooo, la la, you suck!"

  • Visions of Bouncing the rangers in the playoffs at the Coli as Islander fans chanted Oh-la-la SO SOON en rout to the cup.

  • I remember when these guys played!! Dave Maloney was the best looking!!

  • Oh-la-la, Sasson

  • well that just about sums up the ranger organization in 30 seconds. what a joke of a franchise

  • "these guys are a damn disgrace"

  • Anders Hedberg Ron Duguay Phil Esposito and Captain Dave Maloney

  • They cant' sing in this commercial.lol

  • Did they change the pronunciation from "Sassoon" to "Sassahn" because of Vidal Sassoon?

  • 0:03 That's how he likes his team-mates butt holes to look.

  • OMG! I haven't seen this one since my days in the 3rd grade at P.S.71 in The Bronx. My teacher Miss Wolf was looking real good in them especially Jordache.

  • WTF???

  • GAY !!!!!!!!!

  • GAY !!!!!!!!!

  • I love the Rangers! Always have! As cheesy as this commercial was, still brings a chuckle or 2 to me!

  • Look down, now look back up. Your New York Rangers are now DIAMONDS!

  • chocking from laughing so hard. come on esposito!!! lol. naw but that was 70s classic right there!! great stuff.

  • Comment removed

  • when the rangers were playing poorly in the garden, the blue seaters would chant."oooo-lala you suck"

  • aaahhh the days when men had bulges

  • LOL! Geez look how young & skinny those guys were...

  • Can you picture Mark Messier, Brian Leetch, Mike Richter and company from the 1994 Rangers doing this? NAH!

  • I like 1979 commercials but this is just terrible.

  • Every Hall of Famer has a secret shame. This is Phil Esposito's. I just hope that they didn't play this at his retirement ceremony at Boston Garden.

  • and people wounder how this team is not everyones favorite

  • ooh la La Fontaine

  • well, this commercial explains alot.

  • @rjst09 Apparently hockey teams used to be gay... or still are? :O

  • Esposito got pounded setting up in front of the net by some of the toughest bruisers in hockey, becoming the greatest deflection artist in the history of hockey, I reckon he should get away with one helluva fairy ass commercial.

  • I'll agree with you there. Esposito has taken enough physical abuse to last a few lifetimes. He's earned the right to do whatever he pleases as far as I'm concerned.

  • @rhinohippo How about 2 commercials?

  • I loved this commercial when I was a young teen-ager!

  • It was 1979 and the Rangers had just beaten the Islanders in that epic semifinal and lost to the Habs in the finals..the Rangers were the new sports darlings in town..but the next season ; during some lackluster performances; the chant of "ooh la-la you SUCK!!" would rain down from the Garden crowd.

  • Everything about this... just left me speechless. (Bad and good way)

  • Sasson Jeans: The perfect snug so you and your friends can stand around and admire each others bulge.

  • I remember this commercial.

Ranger fans were taunted for years after because of it.

  • One of the most dumb comertials ever

  • did they really do that, did they, did they really do that, did i see that, did they really do that?

  • Esposito....what a freaking joke.

  • I remember this like it was yesterday, lol. Junior high school memories of 1980!

  • 1979.

  • what a terrible commercial that was wow

  • This says it all about the Rags then, more interested in this nonsense than actually winning. Makes me proud to be an Islander fan

  • I owned a pair of these jeans in my last year of High School. They're awesome. Please bring Sasson Jeans back.

  • yea now they got that fag sean avery

  • This never gets old. HAHA

  • OOO LA LA DUGAY!

  • Holy cow... talk about bring back memories!

  • Oh my god, this is so wrong it's right! :D

  • wtf man!!! thats a terrible commercial lol rofl

  • this was so fucking stupid lol

  • Gay as shit.

  • It's a miracle we're not all sterile from wearing such tight clothing back in the day.

  • EPIC!

  • Typical Ranger Fags...

  • So cheesy. I MUST HAVE IT! *hits Favorite*

No, in all seriousness, awesome commercial! The rangers are in for playoffs this year, good luck to them and their fans.

  • Oh man! I had to look up this video cause I actually played against Ron Duguay in a pickup game at Madison Square Garden this afternoon. Great guy, still in great shape, awesome hockey player. I play center, like him, so took a number of face-offs against him. As a lifelong Ranger fan, it was kinda surreal facing-off against Ron Duguay in MSG. Regarding the commercial?...Playing for the Rangers in the 70's must have been a blast, and I think the commercial reflects that!

  • as cheesy and gay as this comercial appears, the truth is being a ranger and playing in nyc in the 70's disco studio 54 days, these guys probley got more puss than they knew what to do with!

  • You've got the part about not knowing what to do with it right. Running train on skates...butt cowboys.

  • great story, thanks for sharing

  • Why aren't the other teams showing this video every time they host the Rangers?

  • Because they're even embarrased to show it.

  • bcuz every ranger fan including me would go out and off themsleves in mass suicide

  • Rangers own all.

    debbies suck.

  • after seeing this i think the rangirls are the ones sucking

  • see your so dumb you dont even know how to say the team right

  • I LOVE IT soo 70's long haired hockey players, disco, designer jeans. This is the 70's summed up in a 30 second commercial!

  • Let's not forget that the Rangers went to the Stanley Cup Final that season!Of course, they did fall short to Les Canadiens!

  • HILARIOUS! i'd love to hear commentary from the players. they'd be laughing at themselves so hard!

  • sooooo gay!!!

  • soooo 70s

  • not gay: DUguay!

  • Wow, Espo looks like the canadian mill-town punk he should have ended up--what a long strange trip. You know these boys got mad ass at the discoteque with those cool moves.... I wish that I knew what I know now when I was younger. Ooh la la.

  • 1940.......forever!

  • your fucking stupid

  • hey devils fans!!! no one gives a shit!!! so what if the rangers were in a goofy commercial? you guys play in a swamp/ghetto to no fans! the only time your games sell out is when the rangers come to town, because all the rangers fans show up!

and islander fans: you guys have been rebuilding for how many years now? all of your best players are scattered across the league! luongo? check. jokinen? check. you'll probably draft tavares and then trade him for a case of beer and a bag of pucks

  • HAhaha, like the rangers are anything to gloat about this or the past few seasons.

Rangers suck, the only difference now is that there is a cap, but Sather still spends all he can and the team sucks ANYWAYXD

  • Rangers Suck! I am not a Devils fan either. They suck too, so does Pittsburgh, and Boston, and Detroit, and Gary Bettman. He really sucks,..but not as much as Ranger Douchebags,....I mean fans.

  • stfu devils fans honestly. im so sick of hearing how much of a greater team you guys because of your 3 cups in the past 10 years. thats your only argument. stop saying how stevens is better than leetch. leetch not only was great defensively but he put up points... a lot more than stevens ever did. devil fans should go back to the swamp... oh im sorry, now its the ghetto...

  • hahah what fags

  • how many cups have u won in the past 20 years?

  • the rangers still are, always were and always will be total fags. They can now be called the sloppy seconds of metro area hockey now that they got avery back. the devils have more dignity than that to be caught dead in a commercial like this.

  • 1979. the devils weren't around, so of course they wouldn't be in a commercial like this.

  • besides devils are one of the least popular teams ever. also if some company paid you a few hundred thousand for some stupid ass commerical, your telling me you'd turn it down?

  • um......GAY! The Rangers are GAY!

  • Funny commercial...brings me back to my youth...I was 8.

    ...getting old...

  • The most shocking thing about this ad is that Ron Duguay -- a pretty boy with an unfortunate name -- was NOT in it! And who tucks a hockey jersey in? I don't remember the chant of "Ooh, la la, you suck!" but I think it should be brought back! After all, 30 years later, they're still telling Denis Potvin -- who, like Scott Stevens, was better than Brian Leetch -- that he sucks, and even Ulf Nilsson said it was a clean hit, you Ranger morons!

  • Ron Duguay is in this commercial, he's wearing the number 10 jersey. This commercial is from 1979, and Duguay wore this number from 77-83.

  • I guess I saw somebody's comment below and got confused... but not "confused" the way these four Rangers obviously are!

  • @UncleMikeNJ

    Potvin better than Leetch?

    thats laughable.

  • @DrSquiresMD In 1998, The Hockey News named the 100 Greatest Hockey Players. This list included 21 defensemen. Number 1 (2 overall) was Bobby Orr. Next best in my lifetime was Ray Bourque at 4 (14). Then Potvin at 5 (19). Then Larry Robinson at 7 (25), Paul Coffey at 8 (29), Chris Chelios at 9 (40), Brad Park at 12 (49), and then Leetch at 15 (71). True, Leetch was still active, but so were Bourque and Chelios. It wasn't "laughable" to The Hockey News then, and it isn't now.

  • @UncleMikeNJ Funny, you say Duguay isn't in the commercial? Looks like him to me? Who is a "moron?" And yeah, the hit WAS a LEGAL hit on Nilsson but it WAS on the dirty side. What was NOT legal, was when Potvin was beating his wife!

  • @greenblue1979 I goofed on Duguay, but a fan of a team that has had Tie Domi, Joey Kocur and Ulf Samuelsson -- who singlehandedly proved Don Cherry an idiot with his "Swedes won't fight" crap -- shouldn't be talking about dirty play. And I'm not defending Potvin, I'm just pointing out how dumb it is to still be doing the he-sucks chant. You don't hear Met fans talking about the Great Yankee Wife Swap of 1973, do you? As a Devils fan, I agree with Isles fans on only one thing. Take a guess.

  • @UncleMikeNJ If Islanders fans can chant "1940" up to 54 years after the fact, then Rangers fans can chant "Potvin sucks" 31 years later.

  • @greenblue1979 Yes, but there was a difference: "1940," until 1994, was actually true. Potvin may have been a jerk, but he didn't suck. You don't hear those same Ranger fans in baseball season going into Yankee Stadium and saying "Pedro sucks." Or going into the Meadowlands in football season and saying "Bednarik sucks," when Bednarik's hit on Gifford was far more damaging and probably cost the Giants at least one title.

  • Greschner was the captain, not Maloney

  • that may be, but it's still Maloney in the video. he was #26 and Greschner was #4

  • When this came out the Rangers, who were Stanley Cup finalists the previous season, got off to a slow start and had an under .500 record at the time. The Garden fans, mad at the slow start, began to chant "OOOO LA LA YOU SUCK!!" during home games!

  • Very cool that you posted this, I'm old I guess because I remember this commercial.

Just an FYI though, Dave Maloney was the Captain of the NY Rangers back then not Don.

  • Thanks for the info, always looking to improve the description.

  • Me too!

  • DOOGS RULES

  • LETS GO DEVILS!!!

  • by the way, I appreciate you posting this video..I remember the print ads from way back when, but never saw the tv commercial.

  • Greschner was probably out on a date with Carol Alt...

  • That's not Greschner. That's Ron Duguay.

  • I got that information from another source without verifying it, but it seems you're right.

  • classy

  • Terrible
