I'll clear this up right now. A beginner guitarist can mash notes as quick as possible. If he's not hitting the string with his pick at the EXACT same time as he's fretting it, it will sound sloppy. Not hitting the string in sync with your left hand means YOU CANNOT PLAY whatever it is you're attempting. Is missing the note by a split second or a whole second any less wrong? No. If you can't do it, at WHATEVER speed then you're a bad guitarist. Watch vids of Li, he's out of sync. Li = Poor. :)

I was picked as the bassist for my friends band compared to others because I play a lot faster. It's all personal skill.

I still think to be a good song artist being able to write songs are more important than being very skillful at playing it, as long as it can be played it should work out (if they are good songwriter).
