torture has NEVER been a reliable source of information - historically it has always been used to sow the seeds of terror and fear and used as a means to obtain false confession to justify otherwise unjustifiable actions. Waterboarding was one of MANY techniques we were "familiarized" with in SERE School. It is designed to give you some insight on what could happen if you are captured and interrogated. You are trained to resist and escape captivity and survive long enough to make it back to friendly lines.

torture has NEVER been a reliable source of information - historically it has always been used to sow the seeds of terror and fear and used as a means to obtain false confession to justify otherwise unjustifiable actions. Sort of why we consider it "bad" and often see groups like the Khmer Rouge using it (waterboarding)

Facts are:Torture was used in most of cases, on people arrested without any proof or serious suspicion. People were held in horrible conditions without being accused of anything formally for years. Sleep deprivation, extensive exposure to a bright light,obscurity or loud music are considered as torture by all official authorities. I am an American and I am disgusted by American conduct in Guantanamo and the international CIA prisons.
Its difficult to take seriously a country's supposed dedication to the rule of law and 'inalienable rights,' and its commitment to international agreements when it so blatantly tells the rest of the world, "You all have to follow the Geneva Convention, but we are going to be over here torturing people even though we say that we don't."

Vietnam was a war to keep Vietnam a French colony. During WWII the United States promised Ho Chi Minh that they would support Vietnam's independence, but the US broke that promise. Waterboarding was one of MANY techniques we were "familiarized" with in SERE School. It is designed to give you some insight on what could happen if you are captured and interrogated. You are trained to resist and escape captivity and survive long enough to make it back to friendly lines.

Spookysr: I never mentioned Abu Zubaydah. You did, and I don't know what you're talking about! However, I do know that waterboarding makes tight-lipped terrorists talk. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who directed the 9/11 attacks, provided information leading to the arrest of at least six major terrorists and thwarted more than 10 planned attacks. I have no idea where your bizarre accusations come from, but you seem to have a vast reservoir of them (like most deranged people do). Waterboarding already lead to the capture of six major terrorists having a history of planning, supporting, and/or participating in mass murder episodes. Logic and reason suggest that they would continue such activity unless stopped. Waterboarding led to their apprehension and most probably foiled future plots.

Though clearly uncomfortable, waterboarding loosens lips without causing permanent physical injuries (and unlikely even temporary ones). Imagine how many innocent people the Islamofascists that I cited would have murdered had interrogators left Khalid Sheikh Mohammed unwaterboarded and his secrets unuttered.

Spookysr: Islamofascists basically are Islamic terrorists whose goals are to set up an Islamic State governed by Sharia Law, like the Taliban did in Afghanistan. Their form of government is characterized by a rigid one party rule, forcible suppression of all opposition, and strict enforcement of Sharia law, which I'm sure you would abhor because it includes lots of inhumane punishment much worse than waterboarding.
