here's a little tip- you can avoid all this by walking on the north side of the pier- its outside and all you have to contend with are the crazy ice fishermen and joggers. (btw, i work on the webteam at wbez)
no no, nothing wrong with the cut (or speeding up)...unless you are going for the bela tarr effect--which i'm assuming you weren't. but it was sort of bewitching...the way people moved around you, it was like you weren't there...
well, it's some kind of mall, right? so it's garish and contains occasional fat people. if you're supposed to come to chicago for this, then i understand your point, but otherwise, yes--tourists just want to revel in crap and don't care if it's not site-specific. i was really digging it up until about the 3:00 mark, when you sped up and there is also a cut--until then, it was hypnotic in a phase III gus van sant kind of way.
That was horrifying. Ira glass made it sound so passable though.
