  • I sure remember good times hearing top 40 radio everywhere we went on vacation. My dad didn't mind it. He liked hearing that music too. When we drove from Nebraska to Minnesota we would look for top 40 radio and when we were approaching the Twin Cities we turned on WDGY. That's where I first heard this song in July of '63. Now I'm 62 living in California...47 years and again turned on top 40 here. Magical time in the 60s.

  • This is the year the beatles made it big in the US. For him to score a hit in June is truly great.

  • fine fine tune

  • 6 people hate this because this clip is not about AV

  • This was one of the Songs My Mom said reminded her of Home - We would listen to it on the Zenith Hi Fi Record Player - Charles

  • this was one of the songs that hit #1 without a word of english in it!!!

very nice--the singing nun had another one

  • mighta had a decent video if you hadn't done the artsy effed up photography of what appears to be some very attractive women. live and learn

  • People should stop giving God credit for everything, this man was who he was by himself. It's indeed rare to have such good quality's but it's not because God gave it to him, it's because of the choices he made in his life, it's because he was a happy cheerful man and choose to be a musician. God had nothing to do with it.

  • @mrgx90

If it wasn't for God, "this man" wouldn't exist. So yeah, God did have something to do with it...

  • @mrgx90 lol u sounds so petty..

thinking you knew everything God's doing? huh

if not God created him, he won't be exist

if God didn't gave him a brain and imagination, he won't make it.

  • God blesses everyone with gifts talents, skills, and abilities...find this truth in the Bible for yourself...be encouraged. Maybe you cannot sing, or dance or play any musical instrument...but I'm absolutely positive God gives good gifts to His children...all over the world. Much gratitude to such a beautiful heart and voice as Kyu Skamoto..now you are singing with the most awesome choir...in heaven...see you later brother.

    Sakamoto

  • @8081952 your words are so uplifting and true... God does bless each of us in His own way... Iw ant your permission to copy your words and send them to some that may benefit form the lvoing expressions -let me know if this OK with you -either way -thank you -Dj

  • @8081952 Wow! You have said it all. This song came up when I was looking for Baby The Rain Must Fall and I always loved it. Memories of that first love in high school! A Taste of Honey made it again later and both are awesome. Indeed - God gives everyone SOMETHING that is special to them alone. Sometimes it is hard to discover but once you do - use to to glorify God. God bless you as well my friend. k9wwt

  • original is best, alvays !

  • a very unfegetable song..

  • Why is there an American flag? Does the author think we're stupid?

  • @cherrycook The song was popular in the USA as well. That's why. Why would anyone think that "we're stupid"?

  • in english, you went away and left me lonely

  • Reminds me of the week I spent in Kaoshung. Went to a little restaurant and had sweet and sour chicken. Asked for more white rice (was sticky and i had more sauce to clean up). A beautiful waitress got down in my face totally surprised and asked, "You LIKE rice?" Told her I grew up in Iowa eating potatoes, and I LOVED rice fora change. If I'ld been there longer than a week I'ld have gone back to see her again.

Oh, I love this song too... always have.

  • This song proves the voice is the most beautiful of all instruments. Never cared what he was singing just loved his voice and the melody of the song.

  • すごいですね!(ウクライナ)

  • Uh, why does it flash an american eagle at the beginning?

  • Hi Super super:):) pozdrawiam MrElvis2:):) (POLAND)

  • My Mother loved this song in the 40's - and I spent some time in Japan in the 60's - and much to my surprise Kyu made it a hit all over back then - Guess its just part of what I enjoy - thats what brings me back to this clip from time to time - God speed Kyu.

  • Beautiful song, beautiful voice......loved it in 1963 and still love it today. Perfection is timeless!

  • This is a song about a man who loses his love and has to face his first night alone without her

  • Can't believe that people, those of us that love real music, won't still be listening to this 30 or more years from now. I grew up with this too and still love listening to it today.

  • @Super3851 CAN'T GET THIS SONG OUT OF MY HEAD. SINCE1965. HEARD IT AT DRIVE IN IN A1960 CHEVY

  • I WILL SAY IT A10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 I LOVE THIS SONG.

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever, in any langauge. R.I.P. my friend.

  • I grew up with this song. It is just as beautiiful today as it was back then!

  • I first heard this when I was a schoolboy in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) around 1964 or 1965.

I didn't understand the lyrics but was enchanted by the beautiful tune and the wonderful voice. It's as beautiful now as it was then. I could go on listening to this song by Kyu Sakamoto. It's a tragedy that he died so young.

  • Песня хорошая, а вот видеоряд подкачал- неприятно смотреть на размытае картинки.

  • Nice balance on the sound quality. Looking for a good quality download. Thanks!

  • Nice sound quality. Thanks!

  • Kyu Sakamoto's beautiful voice is timeless.. no wonder Sukiyaki became a worlwide hit in 1963. Sad he was taken from us too soon... he's immortalized in this song. Thanks for sharing.

  • Excellent rendition

  • @mcfrdmn ya, the original is always the best.

  • Timeless easy listening classic! 63? Wow. Before the British Invasion, too. The song is so beautiful that it was a smash worldwide. However, it is good that Kyu did not attempt to forget his roots by trying to become so Western. Too often, this happens all the time.

  • This remembers my friend Mariko Nishiyama of Yokohama in 1983. Cheers.

  • I don't care how old this is, I actually love it. xD

  • My contract in Taiwan will be over on June 30. I hope I can get a job in Japan soon, I am working on my application to work in Japan.

  • fuck that chick is speachlessly oversweet -.- taken straight out of a lonely nerds mind.... AAARGH she comes 2 times in the movie !!! shes ugly -.- throw it away aaaaa!!! 3 times !!! i better end this comment before shes comes back

  • Kyu: gone, but truly not forgotten. Besides the great singing and lyrics, Kyu whistles on pitch, a difficulty.

I must say that Capitol Records was inspired to allow its disco act "A Taste of Honey" to cover the song in 1981. Their English lyrics botch the original, yet they totally capture the song in and for a different time and place - namely, the "Quiet Storm' movement in R&B music.

  • @ptownfreddy

most often, when translating from one lang to an other, the lyrics do not match, but are close to the intent /feel of the message; in ToH's case, it was the feel of the music that was important.

  • You smile; then the tears start......

  • What a nice song ,,,timeless and evergreen

  • I never had a Japanese Girlfriend, but if I did, I would study this song!

  • beautiful oldie song!

  • Very very nice song.Thank you so much for sharing.

  • This song is as beautiful today as it was when I first heard it. Kyu is recognized as a wonderful singer in any language, proving that talent has no bounds!

  • too bad hes gone now too

  • Another wonderful thing from Japan.

  • such a sentimental song... reminds me of the days when i was a small boy... i doff my slipknot cap to you mr kyu sakamoto...

  • 非常に素晴らしく古典的な歌、本当にありがとう

  • Another great song! Does anyone know what happened to all those great toma's timeless tunes that used to be on You-Tube?

  • type in toma`s timeless tunes, search, they are still there jan 09 sam

  • As a young Marine stationed in Japan in the early 60's, it reminded of our tour every time we heard it.

  • Beautiful song, even if I don't understand the words. But the melody sure speaks to my heart. I love it. When ever it come on I almost stop what ever I am doing to listen to it. I have force to keep moving when ever it come on.

  • Utada Hikaru did a version in English, I hear it's fairly popular...I definitely like the original Japanese better though. Gotta love the Classics!

  • I used to think this song was bright and cheery until I read the translated lyrics and found this song to be quite sad.

    R.I.P. Mr. Kyu Sakamoto

  • A classic from 1963, a number one hit worldwide in that year. God Bless Kyu Sakamoto.

  • the only hit that was sung only in japanese

  • A miracle, bearing in mind WW2 had only ended 18 years before and most folk in Britain were very anti-Japanese. Good old Kyu, he built a bridge between Japan and the West through a simple love song.

Good point well made, TobyW360, at least we bought the tune, or acquired it.

  • Awesome Song!
