@fnscarfan Quite often I have extra gas even in the summer with tires on. Depends how long of a ride you want to go on. Some of the access trails here to the high country can be 20KM up and 20KM back down again, not to mention the time spent all day riding up top. That being said, a larger machine sucks gas.
people who say (get a sled)are missing the point---the tracks make youre atv go much farther than it would have...its not trying to be a skidoo---apples/oranges
Hey there, I got and old honda forman 450 2001, works mint and she`s the best work horse I have, can I put a set of tracks on it, and what kind will do the job? Just for winter riding. Any ideas?
There are very few places that a sled can get that I cannot....I can't take a steep open bowl through deep snow to the top of a mountain...but I can get to the top up the treed ridgeline that you cant make it up....all while carrying 150 pounds of gear. I have ridden both...nothing compares to the thrill of the power of a sled...but I will keep my atv with tracks.
Not to be rude, but if your concerned about the gas mileage, you probably can't afford the toy in the first place. It's like asking the fuel mileage of a Ferrari, it doesn't matter.
As for the speed question in relation to the snowmobiles, sleds are much faster, yet most people who buy 4x4 atvs aren't too concerned about the top end anyway. In summer mine is normally buried to the headlights in mud. The tracks just extend the riding season to all four seasons instead of just three.
'THE' best track system would be rider preference, the guy that owns brand X will always say brand X is THE best one. What you need to do, is talk to an honest dealer if you can find one, and see which ones they have sold the most of, get feedback from them. If you see 6 sets of brand Y sitting used for sale everywhere, don't buy them.

These tracks suck!! They tear the shit out of the bike and the bike will burn way more gas. Have a look at the two fuel tanks strapped to the front rack. Its only common sense, way too much strain on the bike to turn those fucking tracks!!!!
@andrewcallahan12 Ummm Actually you would get more torque out of the tracks, because of the smaller drive spocket, thus making them easier to turn. Thats why the top speed of the quad goes down. So you need higher RPM's to get to the same speeds, thus increasing the fuel usage. Hope this helps.
would this be good for hauling 4 foot long by 3 foot wide trailer with abour 400 lbs of weight total through mud, up hills, and through about a foot of heavy snow.
they are slow, cut the speed of the quad down by 2/3rds. You have to be in low range for deep snow. They are NO way as good as a snowmobile, but are handy. You can go far more with tracks than any tires made.
i have a set for my trx 350 es and it is unbeleivable the shit that thing can go through it just floats on top of the snow like theirs nothing there they are amazing

@sogamer. You have obviously never been snowmobiling.
Compare this: mountain sled hp=140 - 200 atv hp= 20 to 75.
Sled weight 400 to 600lbs
an atv with tracks is 1200 to 1400lbs.
Sled track speed 80-120mph
atv track speed 15-30 mph.
Sled track paddles 1.25 to 3 inches.
Atv track paddles about a 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch.
Plus the approach angle on a sled forces it to stay on top of the snow.
Atv tracks are cool but you will never be able to go where snowmobiles are capable of going. Search "

not better than a smowmobile because you cannot go nearly as fast... but they are unstoppable. I have them on my Honda atv and they are good.
spektakle 2 years ago
better than a snowmobile cause think about it you got 4 tracks spinning ant not just one...probably not nearly as fast though.
