I was counsellor for LGBTQI teens and I understand where your coming from but the terminology is different. Sex is physical - gender is what you feel like. Thats how the community sees it.Your sex may be female or male (or even intersex) but mentally you feel like you are the opposite or you can even feel like you are both (genderqueer/less). Also to clarify - Transexual is someone who changes sex. Transgender is some who feels of a different sex but may not change.
