Keith moon invented drums as we know it to be part of the music rather than just backing a single beat. Moon made fills up to add much more to music all the time and was able to hold togerther the lyrics and the guitars at the same time and just has a perfect sense of rhythm when he goes into one of his mad drum moments around the kit lol

Keith Moon's beats are anything but random. Everything he did was controlled and perfect for whatever song The Who played. Listen to Won't Get Fooled Again and you'll hear the best drumming ever, because everything was absolutely perfect for the song. As Danny Carey says, as drummers we have to be aware of the music around us and not just hit randomly. People think that Mitch Mitchell played a lead style of drumming, but Keith Moon's style was the ultimate lead style.

It might be difficult to take in everything he did in that song, because there are a lot of ghost notes, but if you look up the tabs, it's brilliantly done. He does everything: polyrythms, triplets, off beat hits, but everything contributes perfectly and with incredible smoothness. Other perhaps metal drummers could've added a lot more bass drum, but there was nobody better with their hands than Keith Moon. And never say Keith just did single stroke rolls, he did everything.
