Boy, you railsnobs sure got that railsnob lingo goin' on, don't you? You're something else, aren't you? Too bad normal people can't ask questions without being ignored because of your high-mindedness. Sniping trains is fun! :)
@aaron13133 - ATSF ordered a series of 83 GE B40-8W in the early 90's as to be designated on their "Super Fleet" Series along with the GP60Ms. They were originally assigned road numbers 500-582. Like the GP60Ms, ATSF was the only railroad to purchuse them (With the exception of a GM demonstrator) With the Exception of ATSF 561, 562, and 583 which were sold to the Providence and Worcester Railroad in Massachusetts, I believe that all of the B40-8Ws are still opperating on the BNSF system.
It's a GP60B - a B unit without the ability to move on its own. These are controlled from another unit, like all diesels except the leading one. However, they can't lead a train themselves. Not that common any more, mostly as they can't do many things except give more power to a train
There was two locomotives like that, the second and third engine didn't have windows. They are called B units. It was a concept back from the late 40's when diesels first came out.
Only 3 GP40P-2's were made, all for SP's commute service between San Francisco and San Jose. I've ridden behind several as a kid way back when, so this was a reunion. I'm hoping the 2 units are still in service somewhere now.
Nice! I hop trains. I caught out at that diamond just 5 days ago. Good video shots. I have a question. Is that place called "The Colton Diamonds" or "the Colton Double Diamonds"? Just wanted to know the official name for that place.
Neat. 3 geeps and 2 dash 8 BB units. 3 cc units would've sufficed but apparently fuel economy is not a top concern for BSNF! Makes interesting video, maybe we could "off-set" the carbon emissions by selling the video and donating the proceeds to a tree planting charity. :P
During the early-mid 90s, I used to hang out there, too! After a period of train watching, I'd head over to the now-gone Denny's restaurant on Valley Blvd. A great spot for railfanning...
The latest video I posted is at Stockton, at Keddie Junction, which has dual double track diamonds. It's located west of BNSF's Mormon Yard and north of UP's Stockton Yard. Is this the location you visited before?
The Stockton tower was torn down in 1999, and the second diamond (Santa Fe & Western Pacific) was removed, too, so now there's only one diamond there.
what you got over there and didn't get kicked out!!! i always go back there to railfan but there is a security guard that always kicks me out, nice video
That train is the M-BARJAC, Barstow to San Jacinto aka the "San Jac" branch... the line that goes out to Perris. Four axle units are a must due to the tight curves.
Both the 2nd and 3rd units are B units, GP60B's, built only for Santa Fe. It's weird that I see them a lot in this area, and even on a Z-train once. (It's in another one of my videos)
Great shot of a great location!!!! More please. You do a great job being far enough back from the tracks to pan back and forth and make it look great. Where is that location? Is there much resistance to railfanning there?
I did see one other railfan who approached from the SE corner of the diamonds - I was standing on the NE corner. Despite seeing both UP and BNSF track crews there, I was not asked to leave. I suspect that if people are exhibiting unsafe behavior or there are too many of them, railroad police would show up at a moment's notice.
It's also at a somewhat tough neighborhood, which might discourage casual visitors.
I saw that doublestack with the GP40P-2, I'll post a video response.

That was the JACBAR. It used to go down the San Jacinto industrial lead and come up through the Box springs to go to Barstow.

"B" stands for "booster." "GP" stands for "general perpose." So that would be General Purpose 60 Booster. :-)

@cchan006 They are all in service. Two with UP and the other (x-SP 3197) went to the Indiana Harbor Belt as its 4010.

@CRPULSE300: Yup. See my more recent video of UP 1373 (ex-SP 3198) in action near Pueblo, CO. I went down there specifically to catch it.

Railfan19960 2 years ago
I think they are rare. Only 2 units are on UP roster, 1375 and 1373.

what kind a 3rd UP loco was that??

GP40P-2, ex-SP unit used for commute service. If you click "more info" on the video description, I mentioned it there, too.
