why are R&b artists not talking about race or war or economics anymore? Are all those things fixed. Usher and the like are careerists who'd rather die than rock the boat. Marvin, Stevie, Sly, even early rappers would rather die than not rock it.
One of my peers reminded me that there is only one race and that is the Human Race. when it comes to hatred suspicion and division remember the Devil is in the details, although we cant see Him He is real and who could hate you more?
The reason racism is so hard to eradicate is that it is often taught to us by those we love the most; our parents and role models. Once you start seeing the world though a racists lens, it's hard to ever see things how they truly are. In reality, racism is closer to fear than hate. All I can say is have faith and courage.
we must move forward even though racism is still pervasive, lets dont pay for the same real estate twice, i had a lot of white brothers in viet-nam we were all we got
Curtis should be remembered for his messages without the loud in-your-face attitude that John Lennon approached his similar material with.
Every time Lennon opened his mouth, he was branded a trouble maker, a 'peace-nik', and a counter-culture subversive, and someone the government should keep a sharp eye on...
Mr. Mayfield was soft spoken and could deliver his message without the sabre rattling.
John Lennon should have paid closer attention to Mr. Mayfield's delivery.
It was July 1969 that I remember listening to this song, and the big lie of man landing on the moon was also out at that time, 1969 was a good year though.
Those word ,If you had a choice of colors, which one would you choose my brother, if ther was no day or night which one would you choose to be right? were powerful questions Curtis asked those question for our nation, and we have chosen, and for that we do have a better nation - the best, and getting better.,
All the things Curtis said years ago, has come to pass. Just listen to the song, "Movinging on up. Were here - this instant. Look at our president. Curtis was years ahead of his time, and we were listening to him ,and practiceing what he was telling us, and now we have moved on up, to that better society. So, as Curtis said, "Let's keep on pushing."
A #1 hit for The Impressions on the Rhythm & Blues charts. It was the 198th #1 R&B song of the Rock Era. It also hit #21 on the Top 40 charts. On a personal note, I have Check Out Your Mind on 45.
It's not a matter of hating white folks. It's a matter of trusting them. There is mistrust both ways though and there are some people whose skin is just like mine that I don't trust either. So all this race stuff is irrelevant. It's about economics, but then racism and all the other "isms" are the smokescreens that politicians and the powers that be use as a tool to keep the folks at the bottom fighting amongst each other and therefore perpetuating the mistrust that often leads to hatred.
This incredible artist is still relevant today and Mr.Mayfield had a beautifully positive influence on me growing up! Sure hope they can read You Tube comments in Heaven!
thanks you so much for posting! curtis and the impressions, one of the most poignant and powerful artists of all time, and an unbelievable song. simply beautiful. if more people knew about this song and appreciated it, we would have a better world.
