you shouldn't base a whole diet on a theory of evolution that has not been proven correct. you can see alot of fossiles of animals of past but no ape man fossils. and apes and monkeys are mostly vegetarians and grain eaters fruit etc and some meat but meat does not dominate. the climate was warm from pole to pole. warm plants and animals are found in siberia and cold regions. like orange and lemon trees. mammoths who have hair not fur. hair is not very warm.
It is actually both but the human evolution is mostly fact now. Most Grains are not meant to be consume. A 1 or 2 like rice can be consume moderately.
im concerned that insulin is the culprit in all genetically induced diseases and premature ageing. thankfully the paleo diet is not low caloric, but low carbohydrate thus bypassing the necessity to starve oneself into great health. for me switching from the USDA diet of death to the paleo diet as promised cured me of my disease of modern mankind. all but one, chronic low grade scurvey and associated atherosclerosis. i had to resort to modern medicine to cure this last disease.
Cain offered onto God a burnt offering of whole grains but god was more than not pleased, he was pissed to the max and banned Cain forever. Cain in a vegan induced demented rage, murdered his brother Able that had previously pleased God with a burnt offering of meat. smoked meat even to this day will please even the most discriminating God.
If you haven't already discovered these treasures, I think you would find a book called Nourishing Traditions by Susan Fallon and Mary Enig very interesting. Also another book by Weston A. Price called Nutrition and Physical Degeneration: A Comparison of Primitive and Modern Diets and Their Effects (written in 1939!) is what a lot of their research is based off of. Definitely worth checking out!
1. 99,99% of our genes were also formed before we ever ate meat (that is, pretty much what gorillas eat).
2. Our intellectual evolution took place when we first began eating other animals, and it was NOT due to protein but due to the high amount of fat and carbos. Then our bellys could get smaller(genes were same) and we walked on 2.
you could live all without grains, or completely on them. tell me something that doesn't increase risk of cancer these days :P
We just need to consume more whole grains, instead of refined. Compare something like brown rice to a hamburger, you got tons of saturated, trans fatty acids thats cancerous, not the rice.
If everyone stopped eating grains, there will be nothing left on this earth because a large percent of the world's diet is fed by grains alone
i think, the purpose of the fruit is to spike the insulin level so that you can store some fat for later instead of defecating it out as unused energy. like, you use fruits to store some fat for the winter or for the tough days ahead of time. say you just consumed a whole lot of meat and chased it with some sweet fruits to store some of that meat as fat for later instead of just defecating it out. that's my thoughts on that.
Why do you paint the paleolithic diet as ideal? Back then humans lived like what....30 years? And now we live like 90 years. Not so sure that modern agriculture has actually proved to be "bad". Hey - I like that light stuff though (winter v. summer diet, etc.) - very interesting and good food for thought.
@NewtonsMom I agree. Humans lived shorter during Paleo period. Moreover we are not completely built for meat either (Our teeth alone should tell u that). We are an unique species that eats anything edible. I believe the biggest problems industrial processing of food, grains, drinks etc. Even now, third world countries have few ppl with gluten and lactose intolerance. There is marked fall in quality of life after industrial revolution and especially after mass production. That tells something.
Our primates cousin's chimpanzee, gorilla, bonobos, gibbons primarily eat lots of fruits, seeds, vegetables, plants, leaves, birds eggs. Some eat meat but very little. But meat is not their primary food. We are cousins and no different from them until stone tools, spears to attack animals were invented. At best we foraged meat a bit when left with no option. Blaming on grains and agriculture is a bad idea. Okinawa ppl live 100+ year disease free and their primary diet is grains.
@NewtonsMom man didnt live to be 90 much before the 20th century when we learned to cure infections and fix physical maladys. Our grandparents who lived till 90 didnt have pizza every friday or prepare their meals from a box of chemicals My parents generation is dropping off like flies now in their 60's with their diabetes and heart disease, not to mention rampant cancer
@moms1place eating an improper diet back in the great great grandparent day , such as one would eat say on board a sailing ship killed half of all that tried it within one year. you couldnt eat food from a box then and you cant eat food from a box now. modern man pretends that he understands nutrition. if the food is not living it will not keep you alive. i myself quite working to die, now i think i will shurley out live 99 percent of all peoples.
@NewtonsMom Are you sure we lived that much shorter lives? From what I understand infant mortality is a HUGE factor contributing to those low average lifespans(even today in third world areas). And having seen all older people around me go through, operations and take drugs starting usually after late 50s I think a big factor in our longevity is medical advancement. Not saying paleo diets extend life, just don't know that our current longevity is conclusive evidence either way.
@HackHunter1835 well you're partially right. You shouldn't avoid fat. Now everyone is different but general ratio if yo into that stuff is moderate to high fat, moderate protein, moderate to low carbs. Coconut oil, avacado, grass fed butter, free range eggs...all that stuff is awesome for you!
love the vid's, however, no grains, no sugar, no gluten, no soy and dairy..bro, whats a man to eat. all that is 90 % of the average persons diet. I just want to eat pizza and live alittle man. as long as i exersise, doesnt that take care of the rest?
@HackHunter1835 No. Eating a nutrient-deficient, heavily anti-nutrient diet will catch up with you eventually. Raw fruits and green veggies all the way. High carb, low fat, stay hydrated, get enough sleep, and you'll be healthier than you've ever been.
@humanbiker High carb sucks, you are an endurance athlete so it may work for you. Med fat, med carbs. Protein and fat is essential. Carbs are secondary.
This is just kind of retarded.. First, there's zero evidence of humans living past 10,000 years on this earth. Even if there were, there's no evidence that shows what "primitive man" ate. Our teeth are structured as the teeth of an herbivore. We don't naturally produce the digestive enzymes needed to break down animal flesh. To tell you the truth, most of what he's saying in this video seems to be poorly researched. Eh.. but what do I know?
What do you know? Little it seems. People in Africa are starving, because they farmed in an arid region of the Earth. How sensible was that? Let them use the wildlife parks to hunt real food. As our ancestors did when processing grain was unheard of. Whether or not you believe they ate only meat, fish, berries and maybe nuts, is immaterial. The fact is, back then, there was nothing else. They ate what was there or they starved. But they won and so we are here. Think about it.
Sean, great post. 11 years of wheat-free nutrition resulting in a sexy body, digestive wellness, and most importantly, vital health. Sacha Fernandes, Founder, FERNSwellness.ca
The human "family" have been around for a little over 2 million years, but Homo Sapiens (us) have been around for only around 200,000 years. Long before agriculture still, but your number was still off.
This information is awesome! I believe in doing my own research versus following mindlessly and I have done some research on this topic as well. Though I am not yet satisfied with my research I am leaning towards this train of thought. You had some very useful info in this video. Thanks for sharing!
@rque100 Sandwiches aren't something that you are supposed to eat. Even without bad carbs, fattening sauces or the lack of fiber, sandwiches are designed in such a way that it's very easy to overeat.
trip on this: the advent of domesticated grains (aka fodder food or stored grass potential) sharply put the populace in a smurf/ag slave to the statehood.
In alchemaic divine chemistry lore That From Above So Be Below points to the internal component of grains as being seeds which control us from the inside. However, sprouting and fermentation made the winter stored (grass supply) seeds know as grains a much needed food supply in times of shortage. We are precisely 99.9% bacteria=Probiotic ap
I find food distractingly complicated. I do very badly on grains, digesting beans hurts my stomach, sprouted beans a Bit less. I hate eating animals. Once in a while I have organic chicken, but in Can. it is 3x the price. OUCH! Eggs make me sleepy. West coast fish where I live are fuku polluted. I do Dr.Budwigs, so I eat cottage cheese. What to eat for protein? Are almonds & pumpkin seeds & cottage cheese enough? I FEEL SO CONFUSED! (and if I break down & eat beans-BLOATED!)
Yo love your channel bro! One subject I couldn't find much info on is alcohol. Beer in particular. How do you feel about beer? obviously it has some grains in it so I know that's one strike but just wanted your 2 cents on the matter. Thanks!
what about an entire population in Asia that evolved to eat rice? and yes, u CAN have natural selection to eat a diet of grains IF the selecting factor is strong. to sustain billions of ppl, we need to have had agriculture, and those who don't do well on it won't survive the best. sure we have ppl to are fat but we also have ppl who are healthy on a vegan diet.
also to think about: even if the Paleo diet is healthier, it is DEFINITELY NOT sustainable for 6 billion ppl.
The thing is, if you are talking somebody into paleo diet, usually that person doesn't have poverty issues and overeats. It's usually not remove the grain and replace it with more meat.
It's probably just remove the grain. Remove a portion of meat as well if it's a big portion, and add vegetables, if that person is eating too little, which I bet is usually the case.
@90Rush yes the person should consciously try to eat less without starving. that being said, your satiety is your guide. a Paleo Diet will automatically lower your appetite in the long-term so you'll be the one reducing portions as long as sugars/grains are eliminated. the ideal plate is a few servings of meat + lots of vegs both cooked and raw. nuts are used sparingly
Check out Sean's video "Is God Stupid?" In it, he says that "God" (or nature, or whatever you want to call it) wouldn't have put saturated fat and cholesterol in meat if it was bad for us.
Well, guess what -- God put grains on the Earth, too.
So, now are you saying God IS stupid after all, Sean?
domestication of cattle would of happened around the same time - whats your take on dairy products? have we had sufficient time to adapt to these aswell? Also, is your beef just with grains? or are pulses and legumes etc an issue?
domestication of cattle would of happened around the same time - whats your take on dairy products? have we had sufficient time to adapt to these also?
@IcyTV : Study the human populations that are the healthiest and longest-lived. None are vegan and none are low-carb. The "truth" seems to be somewhere in the middle. A largely plant-based diet with modest amounts of animals foods has produced healthy populations like the Sardianins and Okinawans, the Hunzas, etc. Its no surprise that centenarian studies have shown that they eat fewer calories, more plant food, modest amounts of animal foods and very little sugar.
Insoluble fiber can be ingested in other forms of food that are not grains like produce. Was just playing Devil's Advocate. I appreciate all the feedback. Not eating grains at this time. Not even that religious. Besides, when it comes to the bible, then if it is in the New Testament, chances are, it really is fiction.
@cloudcryptic less damage due to lack of allergens, also converts to blood sugar slower. but analogy is like a slap to the face rather than a punch. just rid it altogether and if you really need carbs (athlete, intense training), eat tubers like sweet potatoes
And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.
You're right and wrong about the age that humans have walked the earth. The genus Homo has indeed existed for that period of time, but the modern species, Homo Sapiens, has been estimated at 100.000 - 200.000 years old.
Are grains really that bad? So if bread is bad what does it mean when Jesus said He was the bread of life, and He tried to get people to see how important He is to their spiritual welfare. Why would He 'multiply the loaves and the fish give thanks, and distribute to those who were seated as much as they wanted.' John 6:11-12
What about insoluble fibre and the B-vitamins needed to make energy; where else can I get this from? Probably get those B's from potatoes, even though they do not have insoluble fibre. So it is not ok to ingest grain and gluten that was not processed or modified? I know I can get soluble fibre from produce. I guess I'll have to start eating the rind of the orange and banana peel to increase the fibre I ingest. I now also need to rely solely on potatoes for slow burning carbohydrate. I'm not sure
People in Africa did not have the same "ice age" that people in Europe had. The "ice age" was not really an age that affected Africans. Those land regions near the equator were still flourishing with greenery.
What do you guys think about reducing grains and constipation? I read some of these anti grain arguments and tried to eliminate them, but found myself getting terrible constipation as soon as I went off grains and beans. The day I decided to add them back in I (sorry if this is gross) took a diarhea so big it took several minutes straight to come out. I've felt much better and been very regular since, but does anyone else have thoughts/experiences on this?
@wjb722 I've been to marks site, but couldn't find much on how to reduce/eliminate them. I'll probably go back and take another look, but if you know of any specific places to look it would be appreciated :).
@txnhb Lots of them... I later realised I think it may be nuts that tend to constipate me. Been nut free for a few days now and am feeling better than I was before. Will try this and see if it works.
so...if your calling grains a "new" thing, questioning whether or not we have adapted to it yet...what are we supposed to eat? I feel like if your going to take it that far, my turkey sandwhiches aren't healthy anymore..have I adapted to my lettuce and tomatoes? or should I just be safe and find and kill all my own food from now on in the wild with spears
@crazed179 grass fed/organic meat, preferably local (you could search online for local farms near your area), organic free range eggs, organic vegetables (kale, broccoli, spinach, aspargus), coconut oil, some low sugar organic fruit such as berries (1 or 2 cups a day max), raw almonds (note: store bought raw almonds aren't really raw, but you could find some ACTUAL RAW almonds online.Except I think whole foods sells some actual raw organic almond butter from italy), coconut milk, org raw milk,
Referring to the Ice Age & the eating of grains doesn't make much sense because Man's Origins are from the Africa Continent where you could grown grains from the beginning of time..
That's a Euro State of Mind & we all know that the Europeans before they started to Explore Africa/Asia & the New World didn't have much of anything but animal products. That's why they carried so many diseases around the World. Nature cures all not Animals..
I totally agree with all you are saying so i am curious:
What is an example of your daily diet? I know thats kind of a wierd question, but i normally have a hard time not cheating ect. What do you normally eat? like an example of maybe 3 random days, what you happend to eat that day?
I used to follow a lot of Sean's videos, but now he just strikes me as a guy who reads something, believes everything it says, and then makes a video based on what he recently read as if it's the absolute truth.
@jhillst If you've been paying attention, Sean is a big supporter of the weston a. price foundation. However they disagree on grains, so obviously this is a subject many people feel different views about. Someone like sally fallon, who has been on the UW radio show supports and eats grain (sprouted only i think), I honestly think this is all just A LOT to take in for some people. You know saying something like oatmeal isn't really healthy is definitely gonna stir up some controversy.
@MrAria44 Yes, I know Sean supports Price; I agree with some of his stuff too. I've actually enjoyed most of Sean's videos, but every now and then he says something that makes me think he's a little too succeptible to belieiving everything he reads, and this video just reeks of that.
In other videos Sean talked about the goodness of sprouted whole grains (he even said he ate Ezekiel bread.) Now he's saying ANY kinds of grain should be elimintaed from one's diet. I think he's been taken.
@jhillst I understand where your coming from. Nowadays these health experts are relied on for good health and nutrition. However, this is something that i l actually love about Sean. He isn't afraid to change his verdict and lifestyle for the best his health could receive. You see so many nutritionists, health coaches etc. on youtube especially of all places advocating their raw vegan, fruitarian, or even paleo lifestyles, and they would never change their outlook because of their rep that...
comes with being a vlogger/blogger and having a large following. Obviously it doesn't surprise me that people are mad at sean because he used to eat sprouted grains and no he is against it, just as people would be mad at someone who was a popular raw vegan guru etc. and suddenly started eating cooked foods or even worse animal products. I guess people feel a sense of betrayal. What i'm trying to get across though is that sometimes you just have to respect the person...
@jhillst It's important to test yourself and see if you feel any difference with or without grains. People react differently to foods. Just because Sean reads some interesting books and tries to briefly talk about the subjects of those books to teach people doesn't make him wrong. He is just trying to help us view our health from other angles. You can't just put someone down if you haven't even tested yourself and put your body through what these health coaches are prescribing. Trial and error.
Go to wikipedia and type in microvillus, saponin, goitrogen, phytic acid, and goitrogen to get the facts about the claims made by underground wellness. Foods with the most phytic acid are not grains but sesame seed flour, pinto beans while rice has the lowest.
Well, I think there is definitely an issue with a lot of the grains grown in America as certain species of grains are selected for high yield and consumption and not allowing for more of the diversity that is often seen in nature. Then there is the issue of GMO's. Corn and wheat come to mind. Other countries know this and prefer to stick to using their own grains which are often more diverse and less likely to be GMO'd. I like to eat a mixture of brown rice, wild rice, quinoa, and buckwheat.
I'm always surprised when I hear about some 110 year old that eats bacon every morning. I always figure its just genetics but maybe there is something to this.
Sean, I clearly haven't done as much reading into the subject as you, but do you feel that the Weston A. Price Association's guidelines for eating a small amount of raw organic grains that have been "soaked" before cooking and consumption is a reasonable way to reconcile our desire for grains in the diet and the ideas you present here? I have been on the fence about the issue recently myself. Just curious of your thoughts. Thanks!
Our genes are actually changing with time so perhaps for many, grains ARE needed. I only need one or two servings a day to feel good - the rest are raw veg, fruits, and minimal nuts, seeds with a little bit of cooked fish or beans everyday. I feel awesome! To each his own thanks to genes and the way average people eat.
have you read Weston Price's Nutrition and Physical Degeneration? I remember him mentioning this little swiss town where they pretty much just ate rye bread, butter, meat once a weak and meat broths. i think the weston price foundation says something about grains needing to be prepared a certain way. im curious to know your thoughts on that.
I'm Asian and I have decided to give up on rice (white & brown). Grains make my body feel very tired. Time to break the Asian food cultural barrier. I'm going with the Paleolithic eating behavior. In fact, I just had spinach, pork chops, trout, and two fried eggs. Strangely enough, I feel great. I'm going to head down to the local park to hunt some ducks and squirrels. The cave man inside me is crying out "Fuck yeah." Thanks Sean Croxton.
@NYCGuy646 Yeah, it's good to have a mixture of grains and avoid GMO and mass produced grains. I think GMO and mass produced grains tend to cause most of the issues people develop after consuming grains.
Does anyone know about fruits? Are we supposed to have a low amount of fruits and a high amount of vegetables? Or are we supposed to have an equal amount of fruits and vegetables. Or should we just eliminate fruits all together and just stick to vegetables?
@CBasie2856 Do what you think is best. I wouldn't eliminate fruit altogether because it does contain soluble as well as insoluble fiber which I read is good for helping to maintain certain organs in the body.
Processed grains are not good in moderation. Anything processed is not good in moderation. Symptoms start to catch up to you when you are about 30. Unfortunately for me, they started catching up to me when I was about 17 years old, and now I have hypothyroidism because of this processed food diet all these years.
Wheat is bad for you! The most you should sneak in would be just 1 piece of bread per day. No more...
@CBasie2856 what I mean is don't get too bothered with what you eat. Todays good might be tomorrows bad. see what i'm saying? Today people tell us to eat some type of food because its better for you, but maybe later the studies will show that that type of food is hazardous for you.
The good foods for us(fruits, vegetables, meat, etc) will always remain the same, unless our genetics change and the gene requires us that we have to eat something different.
I tried a primarily protein based, grain free diet about two years ago, and I felt great on it. Each meal was essentially some form of animal protein and lots of veggies... the problem though was that I got bored with it. I didn't so much crave grains, but because I was also limiting my fruit consumption to one serving per day (and only after workouts), I was just running out of good meal ideas. I may try it again soon after hearing more on the topic, I just need to plan ahead better.
Well, being that I don't believe most of the points within that particular account of human "history", I'm a little skeptical that grains are altogether bad for us. I do think a lot of people overdose on starch without balancing it out with the proper amounts of vegetables and protein. I did read the blog, and as I have no other explanations of the way these compounds from grains affect the body, other than starches, I think I'll read more up on that before eliminating something from my diet
Okay, so now that I've read up a little on the matter of phytic acid and other "antinutrients" which not only occur in grains but legumes as well... I'm wondering is the best way to handle this to soak all grains and legumes before consumption or cooking, or to just eliminate them? The problem for me with eliminating them is I'd be forced to reintroduce a lot of meat into my diet, which is not only more expensive, but comes with it's own host of problems regarding origin and feed and organics...
Plus it's annoying to cook because you have to keep it separate from vegetables while handling it raw and constantly wash your hands before touching anything.
So yea.... I already soak my beans, but maybe things like rice, oatmeal, pasta, etc. can be okay if they are soaked too? Welcome your thoughts.
Oh and one more thing - if unfermented soy sucks so bad, and almonds contain phytic acid that isn't soaked out of them before making almond milk, either, what kind of milk are we supposed to drink? I just called my Whole Foods and they told me they didn't carry raw dairy milk being that it is illegal in my state... soooo....???
I'm trying lowering my carbs to under 50 and increasing healthy fat. Feeling great so far! I'm still reluctant to eat only bacon and butter and get a daily fat intake of 200grams like some people are doing.
It's true that the genes haven't changed a lot in the last 15-25k years but new blood types have been introduced, namely A, B, AB and they behave differently to different types of food. O's are hunters, A's are farmers and B is a mix of A and B.
man I WISH i could eat fresh organic fruits and vegetables, and animals.... but we (most of us here) live in north america and its fucked up, with all the gmo's, pesticides, preservatives, artificial bullshit, and even the "organic" stuff is a lie.
i just wish we could live in a place where humans werent stupid and wanted to destroy our species, and where its warm and theres no technology or hatred
How is organic stuff a lie? Organic stuff is supposed to be good for you. If you go to local farms and stuff, you will get the best organic stuff. It has to be local though.
@CBasie2856 "is suppposed to be good for you" exactly... what does organic even mean? its just without hormones or artificial food right? but they are still in a closed space and thats not healthy at all. organic free-range is natural, but its so expensive, only the rich can buy those. i really hate the way humans have "evolved" or rather devolved in terms of food consumption and production
I would LOVE to see you on the Dr. Oz show. Thank you for all of the brilliant information you provide us. Please consider going on his show to tell some truth! Also - where did all of your old videos go?? I miss them :(
yeah, but before agricultural revolution we were cave people. After, we were scientists, doctors, politicians, architects, musicians, philosophers, etc. etc. A good question to ask is whether there is a link between agriculture and intelligence?
Ok for those who say this is not all right you should keep a few things in mind:
1.) Many grains are hard for humans to digest and cause allergies
2.) You ultimately have to choose what you eat(put into your mouth).
You know I hope for those who criticize this are not celiacs or allergic to wheat and other grains. Just take what this man and others say with a grain of salt, take what you feel is speaking to you, and move on! #thatisall
how do you make sure that are bodys are burning fat for energy and not buring muscle for energy. .So the question is how do you make or trick you body into burning your fat as energy and not burning up your muscle for energy
sean like the video but i am involved in extremely intense sports practice 5-6 days a week and am just active in general. i already eat alot of meat, eggs, raw cheeses, veggies, fruits and stuff like that but i have trouble getting enough food to fuction properly on these foods alone since eating too much fruit isnt heathy either what do you recommend.
After reading the book "The Paleo Diet for athletes" I completely cut out grains and legumes. I cut out dairy years ago, but i've been all paleo for 1 year. Its amazing and I plan on eating like this for the rest of my life. From my research I truly believe this is how we've evolved to eat to function at optimal levels. I've also been watching your videos since the beginning. Glad you're finally coming around. USDA is all about money. period.
I used to live on a diet full of wheat and grains, fruits, milk, American cheese, ketchup, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, juice, potatoes, corn, hotdogs, chicken nuggets and I felt horrible. I needed to change at that instant.
It caused hypothyroidism in me.
Now I eat fruits, vegetables, whole wheat bread, meat, nuts and that's basically it and I am still recovering from all the damage that these foods have done to me. I have several bacteria attacking brain.
Sean, I totally respect you and your profession, and you have a lot of great content, but on this I can't completely agree with. What grains I do eat I try to get the stuff that's least processed and unbleached. Modern agriculture has really messed things up a lot tho. Stuff is so over-processed it's not even fit to eat IMO. And some may laugh at me for this, but Jesus and his disciples broke bread together, and I see no reason why it shouldn't be a part of our diet. :)
@shizzlebiskit3rd dude...just stop posting....your comments are illogical and are complete nonsense...you have no basis for your arguement...do you have a job? do you make money everyday? like a good portion of americans...you prob. do...so you're arguement is already pointless and you are sounding like a moron.
I have been eating a Paleolithic style diet for quite some time now. Mainly composed of little nuts and seeds, a lot of high-omega 3 meats, fish, some poultry thrown in there, and green and starchy veggies. It's worked amazingly for fat loss and performance in weightroom! And I eat all organic. I wouldn't say Paleo is for everyone, but I believe any diet without gluten is a step in the right direction lol
Sean is the man! I love your videos bro! For people stating, just eat this, and this and that food and you are good to go...it's more than that. A very informative read that puts your thoughts on nutrition in a slightly different direction is, "Metabolic Typind Diet" by William Wolcott. Great read. Sean, have you mentioned Walcott in any of your vids!? Do you support his research, concepts and principles? Just curious!
Even if we consider blackyblackblack505's estimate of it requiring 100,000 years for genetics to change on a noticeable level, then 10,000 years of that time should still have accounted for more than .01% change. If we assume a steady rate of change, then we should have estimated a .1% change instead. Obviously there cannot be a steady rate of change, but how can you possibly predict the timing and rate of genetic change in prehistorical man?
I am not disagreeing with you by any means, I'll hate on grains with you. But 10,000 yrs. out of 2.6 million years is 1/260 of the total time, or .4%. You say genetics have changed by about .01% during that time. How can anthropologists say for sure that during .4% of our history, genes only changed .01%? How can they be mathematically accurate at all when trying to determine at what points in our history our genes underwent change? It just seems too difficult to determine this.
In my evolutionary anthropology class I heard that it takes 1000 generations for a significant change to be noticeable in human genes. That's about 100x1,000=100,000 years before we will get used to grains which leaves us about 98,000-95,000 years left to go.
Sean, forget those comments about removing old videos - it shows that you can grow if you can change your mind. I'd drop you from the rotation fast if I thought you were wed to a certain view and couldn't change. Keep learning and helping us do the same. Thank you.
@shizzlebiskit3rd So people aren't supposed to make money from the valuable information that they enjoy blogging about? I understand the argument for impartiality, but everyone is biased. For example, nutritional scientists that promote things like the food pyramid have there salary paid through the lobbying of Big agra-businesses. It's about trust, and Sean genuinely cares. You shouldn't agree with anyone just cause they think they're right of course, but you shouldn't dismiss them either.
@ArgosSmith2009 No, people shouldn't make money form the valuable information they enjoy blogging about, not if they want to remain a trusted source. Every dollar they take for that information reduces it's value in the eyes of the audience. It's a general frustration I have with this channel; it seems as though Sean is massively knowledgeable, but I have a trust issue with everything he says, because it's always linked to a product.
@shizzlebiskit3rd I would be more concerned if the person didn't use the information or products that he or she talks about and didn't stand behind them or back the information or products being blogged about than if the person were to make money from the information and products mentioned on some blog. If I find that they practice what they preach, I certainly won't fault them for making a little money from the information or products mentioned on their blogs.
@shizzlebiskit3rd Part 1 . . . I understand where your coming from as it is a frustrating cycle that is seen all over the place. Sean is very knowledgeable about health, and he wants to share his knowledge with anyone that will listen. I can see nothing wrong with Sean promoting (without money) Books and Products that he himself has read and used so that we can gain the same knowledge and health short-cuts. . . .
@shizzlebiskit3rd . . . Part 2 . . . I know that Sean is not an impartial source, as he has great biases against mainstream health advice. I trust that Sean wants to be healthy and learn how to improve his own health, and like-wise will pass on the same information that he uses himself instead of harmful information. If Sean accepts money by promoting to others the valuable information that he uses himself has no effect on me, as the info is the same. . .
@shizzlebiskit3rd Part 3 . . If Sean accepts money by promoting harmful info then that is corrupt. It's not the money that matters, what matters is the value of the information. As long as Sean only promotes & accepts money from products that he truly believes in, would use himself and on his unborn children, I would gladly check it out. In fact I like that he accepts money as the more valuable Underground Wellness become to him the more time/effort he will spend creating quality productions. .
@shizzlebiskit3rd . . Part 4. . It's up to each of us to develop the skills to determine whether someone is lying or telling the truth. I get the feel the Sean loves to do these videos and interviews, and the excitement that he has about learning&teaching health is infectious. I think that Sean believes in the books and products that he promotes and uses them himself. Sean's info may not be perfect and he may makes mistakes, but that's being human. As long as he believes it himself I trust him.
I love the way you express everything in concerns of grain etc. Well keep doing your research and informing others about grains. Well hope you are ok and be bless from the lovemecoach01. Blessings!
you shouldn't base a whole diet on a theory of evolution that has not been proven correct. you can see alot of fossiles of animals of past but no ape man fossils. and apes and monkeys are mostly vegetarians and grain eaters fruit etc and some meat but meat does not dominate. the climate was warm from pole to pole. warm plants and animals are found in siberia and cold regions. like orange and lemon trees. mammoths who have hair not fur. hair is not very warm.

im concerned that insulin is the culprit in all genetically induced diseases and premature ageing. thankfully the paleo diet is not low caloric, but low carbohydrate thus bypassing the necessity to starve oneself into great health. for me switching from the USDA diet of death to the paleo diet as promised cured me of my disease of modern mankind. all but one, chronic low grade scurvey and associated atherosclerosis. i had to resort to modern medicine to cure this last disease.

Then our bellys could get smaller(genes were same) and we walked on 2.
you could live all without grains, or completely on them. tell me something that doesn't increase risk of cancer these days :P
drditup 3 months ago
We just need to consume more whole grains, instead of refined. Compare something like brown rice to a hamburger, you got tons of saturated, trans fatty acids thats cancerous, not the rice.
If everyone stopped eating grains, there will be nothing left on this earth because a large percent of the world's diet is fed by grains alone
jaymovez 3 months ago
@jaymovez Saturated fat is good for you and there are no trans fats in meat.
ApacheBoneknife 3 months ago 3
i think, the purpose of the fruit is to spike the insulin level so that you can store some fat for later instead of defecating it out as unused energy. like, you use fruits to store some fat for the winter or for the tough days ahead of time. say you just consumed a whole lot of meat and chased it with some sweet fruits to store some of that meat as fat for later instead of just defecating it out. that's my thoughts on that.

NewtonsMom 3 months ago
@NewtonsMom I agree. Humans lived shorter during Paleo period. Moreover we are not completely built for meat either (Our teeth alone should tell u that). We are an unique species that eats anything edible. I believe the biggest problems industrial processing of food, grains, drinks etc. Even now, third world countries have few ppl with gluten and lactose intolerance. There is marked fall in quality of life after industrial revolution and especially after mass production. That tells something.
HeySenthil 3 months ago
Our primates cousin's chimpanzee, gorilla, bonobos, gibbons primarily eat lots of fruits, seeds, vegetables, plants, leaves, birds eggs. Some eat meat but very little. But meat is not their primary food. We are cousins and no different from them until stone tools, spears to attack animals were invented. At best we foraged meat a bit when left with no option. Blaming on grains and agriculture is a bad idea. Okinawa ppl live 100+ year disease free and their primary diet is grains.

@moms1place eating an improper diet back in the great great grandparent day , such as one would eat say on board a sailing ship killed half of all that tried it within one year. you couldnt eat food from a box then and you cant eat food from a box now. modern man pretends that he understands nutrition. if the food is not living it will not keep you alive. i myself quite working to die, now i think i will shurley out live 99 percent of all peoples.
datzfast 3 months ago
@NewtonsMom Are you sure we lived that much shorter lives? From what I understand infant mortality is a HUGE factor contributing to those low average lifespans(even today in third world areas). And having seen all older people around me go through, operations and take drugs starting usually after late 50s I think a big factor in our longevity is medical advancement. Not saying paleo diets extend life, just don't know that our current longevity is conclusive evidence either way.

HackHunter1835 4 months ago
@HackHunter1835 No. Eating a nutrient-deficient, heavily anti-nutrient diet will catch up with you eventually. Raw fruits and green veggies all the way. High carb, low fat, stay hydrated, get enough sleep, and you'll be healthier than you've ever been.

@humanbiker High carb sucks, you are an endurance athlete so it may work for you. Med fat, med carbs. Protein and fat is essential. Carbs are secondary.
thespecter2 2 months ago
This is just kind of retarded.. First, there's zero evidence of humans living past 10,000 years on this earth. Even if there were, there's no evidence that shows what "primitive man" ate. Our teeth are structured as the teeth of an herbivore. We don't naturally produce the digestive enzymes needed to break down animal flesh. To tell you the truth, most of what he's saying in this video seems to be poorly researched. Eh.. but what do I know?
Malikhiveli 4 months ago
@Malikhiveli
Think about it.

what about an entire population in Asia that evolved to eat rice? and yes, u CAN have natural selection to eat a diet of grains IF the selecting factor is strong. to sustain billions of ppl, we need to have had agriculture, and those who don't do well on it won't survive the best. sure we have ppl to are fat but we also have ppl who are healthy on a vegan diet.
also to think about: even if the Paleo diet is healthier, it is DEFINITELY NOT sustainable for 6 billion ppl.
danhantheman 7 months ago 3
@danhantheman
90Rush 4 months ago
@90Rush yes the person should consciously try to eat less without starving. that being said, your satiety is your guide. a Paleo Diet will automatically lower your appetite in the long-term so you'll be the one reducing portions as long as sugars/grains are eliminated. the ideal plate is a few servings of meat + lots of vegs both cooked and raw. nuts are used sparingly

I used to follow a lot of Sean's videos, but now he just strikes me as a guy who reads something, believes everything it says, and then makes a video based on what he recently read as if it's the absolute truth.
jhillst 11 months ago
@jhillst If you've been paying attention, Sean is a big supporter of the weston a. price foundation. However they disagree on grains, so obviously this is a subject many people feel different views about. Someone like sally fallon, who has been on the UW radio show supports and eats grain (sprouted only i think), I honestly think this is all just A LOT to take in for some people. You know saying something like oatmeal isn't really healthy is definitely gonna stir up some controversy.
MrAria44 10 months ago

MrAria44 10 months ago

Cooking inactivates Goitrogenic foods.
Saponins are dissolved in water. Etc.

I have been on the fence about the issue recently myself. Just curious of your thoughts. Thanks!

Each meal was essentially some form of animal protein and lots of veggies... the problem though was that I got bored with it.

Soulja4Alethia 11 months ago
Plus it's annoying to cook because you have to keep it separate from vegetables while handling it raw and constantly wash your hands before touching anything.
So yea.... I already soak my beans, but maybe things like rice, oatmeal, pasta, etc. can be okay if they are soaked too? Welcome your thoughts.
Soulja4Alethia 11 months ago
Oh and one more thing - if unfermented soy sucks so bad, and almonds contain phytic acid that isn't soaked out of them before making almond milk, either, what kind of milk are we supposed to drink? I just called my Whole Foods and they told me they didn't carry raw dairy milk being that it is illegal in my state... soooo....???

I'm trying lowering my carbs to under 50 and increasing healthy fat. Feeling great so far! I'm still reluctant to eat only bacon and butter and get a daily fat intake of 200grams like some people are doing.
anakin005 11 months ago
Hey Sean, I think you're wrong.
It's true that the genes haven't changed a lot in the last 15-25k years but new blood types have been introduced, namely A, B, AB and they behave differently to different types of food. O's are hunters, A's are farmers and B is a mix of A and B.
Just a food for thought.

man I WISH i could eat fresh organic fruits and vegetables, and animals.... but we (most of us here) live in north america and its fucked up, with all the gmo's, pesticides, preservatives, artificial bullshit, and even the "organic" stuff is a lie.
i just wish we could live in a place where humans werent stupid and wanted to destroy our species, and where its warm and theres no technology or hatred
DjGoGo09 11 months ago
@DjGoGo09
organic stuff is a lie? How would that be a lie? Most organic stuff is good for you.
CBasie2856 11 months ago
@DjGoGo09
How is organic stuff a lie? Organic stuff is supposed to be good for you. If you go to local farms and stuff, you will get the best organic stuff. It has to be local though.
CBasie2856 11 months ago
@CBasie2856 "is suppposed to be good for you" exactly... what does organic even mean? its just without hormones or artificial food right? but they are still in a closed space and thats not healthy at all. organic free-range is natural, but its so expensive, only the rich can buy those. i really hate the way humans have "evolved" or rather devolved in terms of food consumption and production

yeah, but before agricultural revolution we were cave people.

Hmm I'd go grains yes and gluten no. My grains = organic brown rice & whole wheat oatmeal.

@TheJovanist
good. That's the way to do it.
Whole wheat bread is not good though. I have organic spelt bread every day instead.

USDA is all about money. period.

grains really screw you up.
CBasie2856 11 months ago
Sean, I totally respect you and your profession, and you have a lot of great content, but on this I can't completely agree with. What grains I do eat I try to get the stuff that's least processed and unbleached. Modern agriculture has really messed things up a lot tho. Stuff is so over-processed it's not even fit to eat IMO. And some may laugh at me for this, but Jesus and his disciples broke bread together, and I see no reason why it shouldn't be a part of our diet. :)
pksmb1120 11 months ago

Chaddyboxer 11 months ago
Do you think you could set up a proper diet revolving around this? I'm really interested but I'm not quite sure where to start.
Zoologist 11 months ago
Sean is the man! I love your videos bro! For people stating, just eat this, and this and that food and you are good to go...it's more than that. A very informative read that puts your thoughts on nutrition in a slightly different direction is, "Metabolic Typind Diet" by William Wolcott. Great read. Sean, have you mentioned Walcott in any of your vids!? Do you support his research, concepts and principles? Just curious!

Great video.
I drop more weight around the waist when I do NOT consume grains. Sometimes in the winter I consume grains and thats about it.

Even if we consider blackyblackblack505's estimate of it requiring 100,000 years for genetics to change on a noticeable level, then 10,000 years of that time should still have accounted for more than .01% change. If we assume a steady rate of change, then we should have estimated a .1% change instead. Obviously there cannot be a steady rate of change, but how can you possibly predict the timing and rate of genetic change in prehistorical man?
spenc193 11 months ago
Hey Sean,
I am not disagreeing with you by any means, I'll hate on grains with you. It just seems too difficult to determine this.
spenc193 11 months ago
In my evolutionary anthropology class I heard that it takes 1000 generations for a significant change to be noticeable in human genes. That's about 100x1,000=100,000 years before we will get used to grains which leaves us about 98,000-95,000 years left to go.
blackyblackblack505 11 months ago
@blackyblackblack505 actually love a generation is not 100, people don't have kids at 100, its more like 20-30 which puts us at 20,000-30,000 years
Pearlygirl0 11 months ago
@Pearlygirl0 Assuming people lived to be one hundred though. But your right to, in your own respects.

ArgosSmith2009 11 months ago
@ArgosSmith2009 No, people shouldn't make money form the valuable information they enjoy blogging about, not if they want to remain a trusted source. Every dollar they take for that information reduces it's value in the eyes of the audience. It's a general frustration I have with this channel; it seems as though Sean is massively knowledgeable, but I have a trust issue with everything he says, because it's always linked to a product.
shizzlebiskit3rd 11 months ago
Do u realize you said "valuable" and "people shouldn't make money" in the same sentence?
Think about that.
UndergroundWellness 11 months ago
@shizzlebiskit3rd I would be more concerned if the person didn't use the information or products that he or she talks about and didn't stand behind them or back the information or products being blogged about than if the person were to make money from the information and products mentioned on some blog. If I find that they practice what they preach, I certainly won't fault them for making a little money from the information or products mentioned on their blogs.
chiyerano 11 months ago
@shizzlebiskit3rd Part 1 . . . I understand where your coming from as it is a frustrating cycle that is seen all over the place. Sean is very knowledgeable about health, and he wants to share his knowledge with anyone that will listen. I can see nothing wrong with Sean promoting (without money) Books and Products that he himself has read and used so that we can gain the same knowledge and health short-cuts. . . .
ArgosSmith2009 11 months ago
@shizzlebiskit3rd . . . Part 2 . . . I know that Sean is not an impartial source, as he has great biases against mainstream health advice. I trust that Sean wants to be healthy and learn how to improve his own health, and like-wise will pass on the same information that he uses himself instead of harmful information. If Sean accepts money by promoting to others the valuable information that he uses himself has no effect on me, as the info is the same. . .
ArgosSmith2009 11 months ago
@shizzlebiskit3rd Part 3 . . If Sean accepts money by promoting harmful info then that is corrupt. It's not the money that matters, what matters is the value of the information. As long as Sean only promotes & accepts money from products that he truly believes in, would use himself and on his unborn children, I would gladly check it out. In fact I like that he accepts money as the more valuable Underground Wellness become to him the more time/effort he will spend creating quality productions. .
ArgosSmith2009 11 months ago
@shizzlebiskit3rd . . Part 4.
