  • Thanks so much for posting. Drove the same model in high school (class of '71). Lots of memories, especially little things, like the way the front windows rolled down - almost all the way.

  • I can understand your happy about your car, but you need to lay off calling it "she" all the time :P its freaking me out :D

  • My old man got one of these, (but with the 4cyl) in trade, for a couch.

  • i still remember u driving that thing like a maniac in the hills of hamilton, with me holding on for dear life in the passenger's seat

  • can i get one for £3000?

  • man it sounds almost like a rotax engine HAHA! shes a beauty! and starts all weather 50 - degrees noo problem hehe!

  • How much are these cars worth?

My Dad has a '67 sitting on the back yard with a car cover over it, and a bunch of wooden boxes on it.

  • The car you see in this vid, with a some of the bodywork blemishes (i.e. almost the entire bottom half of the body panels) sanded down to body filler and the car partially disassembled fetched $1500 within 2 days of posting it for sale. A well retored (factory condition) could fetch anywhere from 3-5k depending on demand. I'd say a concours restored car could do 6-10... The market for these SAABs isn't all that big which means the prices tend to vary quite a lot, especially on eBay.

  • :( miss her

  • These really were designed from jets, unlike the modern ones...

  • Swedish cars in U.S = Lovely! :-)

  • A 96 like this one can start at 4-500 dollars for a rough-shape car needing restoring, to about 6-7,000 dollars for a nicely restored one. I just sold this car the other day, mid-restoration, for $1500.

  • You just sold this car? Aww... bummer. I know someone who has a red 1970 95 wagon, which has the V4 Taunus engine. Quirky car, but pretty rough engine. He drives like a maniac too.

  • How much do these cars go for??

  • ur bonnets broken mate, should go the other way

    ; )

  • It´s a Toyota Camry in the background. I feel very lucky ´cause I live in Sweden which means i can see those wonderful cars, every week!

  • is the other saab in the background also yours?

  • Im pretty sure thats a Toyota Camry in the backround. lol i can see why you think its a saab

  • Nice old SAAB, Love the sound from the 2-stroke engine.

To bad the company is suffering now. This is especially sad for me who is Swedish :(

Have you done any work to it ?

  • Currently it is sitting in my garage at home partially disassembled. I've sanded the lower half of the doors and fenders down to bare steel because of all the dents and poor bodywork by the previous owner... When I ever get time (I'm at university now) I'm going to do an entire cosmetic restoration...

  • Good, they are worth keeping :) They are really rare now. I cant remember the last time a saw a 2-stroke on the road, though I know someone in my town own a really nice red one (Dont know if its a 2 or 3 cylinder).

Take care and good luck with your horsepower monster :)

  • I used to always think SAAB were a bit strange looking when I was younger. Now I want one in the worst way. I realize now they were just ahead of their time. In the Snowbelt of PA (a Jeep is much more practical).

  • I had a Saab 96 (many years ago) in Madison, Wisconsin. I put studded snow tires on the front wheels in the winter and with it's flat toboggan-bottom, it would actually crawl it's way through the deepest snow, like a land-based paddle-wheeler. We once had an 18 inch snowfall that shut down the whole city, including people with Jeeps. I spent the whole day ferrying stranded people around town. It had a little Ford V-4 industrial motor that got 35 mpg. That's something else a Jeep couldn't do.

  • ching ding dang ding ding

  • I like your presentation: "Hello everyone! This is my 1967 Saab 96 two-stroke. In here, the lovely: 841 cc, two-stroke 3-cylinder engine, four-speed gearbox. And boy this is sound beautiful."

  • Nice 96. But what's the rattle at 0:49?

  • Bendix electric fuel pump under the rear seat.

    Thanks!

    -Cody

  • I like the latest Saab 96:s because they got some nice cirkular headlights on the grill.

    /ZEG

  • Compared with another Saab 96 2-strokes, your Saab sound much more better than another Saab 96 2-strokes.

Your car sounds more better in the idling and the high accelerator.

    Good car!

    /ZEG

  • The difference is probably because I have the twin-pipe GT exhuast on it. It sounds a bit ring-a-ding-dingy! haha

    thanks!

  • Ok. But it´s sounds more even on the engine idling a little near the old 4-strokes I think for the sound, but I like the muffled sound beacuse it´s sounds better than the another 2-strokes. :-)

  • The engine was already warm when I started it for the video that day, so it did run very well. But when it's cold, the engine doesn't even want to stay running... Hell, it doesn't want to stay running when it's hot either! haha

  • Good video! I had a saab 1968. It is my favorite car, but now i drive a volvo 1960.

  • it is indeed a great choice of car! hav fun with it!

  • i am going to buy saab 96 its wonderful car (i am from finland)

  • Nice that you like old SAAB:s!

    Love car!

    SAAB = Sweden

    /ZEG

  • you seem to know alot so i was wondering if its road legal(or can be) and what would it feel like to drive? is it more or less powerfull than a 2007 toyota camry?

  • Oh of course it's legal! lol And it's only got 46 bhp, so it's WAY less powerful than any modern car. haha I used to drive it all the time actually... Now it's in the garage in pieces as I'm doing the cosmetic restoration on it. It should be done next summer (when I get back home from college for the summer).

  • are they rare?

    where could i get one?

    i want a trabant

  • not tooooo rare, no. There's plenty out there, but ones without rust are getting pretty hard to come by! Trabants, on the other hand, are shoddy, pathetically underpowered, and incredibly rare in the US...

  • i know there underpowered and i am looking for a project(2 stroke car) and a trabant is just so simple.

  • this is true... just beware of the Trabby's shifter, shift linkage, and synchros!

  • nice man nice

  • well thank you

  • Hi! I like you car, it`s a very nice 2 stroker you`ve got there :). I have two 96 of my own but they are both V4, i have thougt about selling/trading my Jubilè model against a two-stroker for the future.

Again nice car, and please post more vids with it, i would really like too watch :)

//Nubbpiraten (from Sweden, about 25 kilometers from the Saab factory in trollhättan :D )

  • thank you very much! I will be out of school soon, so I'll probably make some videos of me fixing the bodywork...

  • No probbs, looking forward :D

If you have questions about the car, any problems or so, there are many experts at the swedish saabclub forum "saabklubben(dot)se" just klick on "Anslagstavlan". Most people there knows english and if you want i can help you translate, just PM me here on youtube :)

    // A SAAB 96 friend

  • that's cool! We have a good, close crowd here too, and I've actually owned SAABs since I was 14. I have it bad!!! haha

    -Cody

  • Hehe, it´s guys like you and me that likes these models since childhood :P

I have owned my first since i was 16! :P

    But i have had a 9000 in between my 2 96:es too :)

  • sadly I am stuck with my 1998 Toyota Camry as my daily driver... One day I wouln't mind buying a later model SAAB or Saab provided it's one that won't break! haha

I'm also kind of wanting a Triumph TR7 or TR8, since they are beautiful/powerful/not bad on fuel milage...

    -Cody

  • Okey :P, Well i`m going too use one of the V4 as my daily now and see how it goes, there is plenty of spareparts at good prices here in sweden so i don`t think thats going to bee a problem. I have thought about getting a SAAB 99 for daily drive, but i think it`s going to have to wait :D

  • It´s very nice that United States likes some olds Saab too.

    /ZEG

  • It sounds like a Wartburg! :D

  • same basic engine design as the Wartburg... only this one is 841cc, not 1000cc, and it's canted over about 30 degrees.

  • And what's that clicking noise when you turn the key to ignition?

  • Bendix electric fuel pump under the rear seat.

  • :D :D :D

  • It sounds like a Wartburg! :D

  • ring ding ding ding

  • We've been talking about you. Search "saab singing stroke"

  • -_-.....geez man....ur such a car freak. LAWLZ. I love that car. it's so pretty...and it makes a purrrty rawr when u fire it up.

  • I had the same car about 30 years ago, but mine had the v-4 4 stroke engine.

This brought back alot of memories.

  • If someone buys a 900og (Old Generation). That person must be crazy not to buy the Aero (T16 Special)

  • Awesome Saab! ^^

  • This car was my mom's first stickshift, and she loved it.

  • it was a great car, and it had power. Special 2 me cuz i came home from the hospital in it and stuff.

  • i miss our saab 900, it was an '85 8 valve nat. aspirated, threw a rod after 245,000 and we had to junk it cuz we couldn't find the motor :(

  • ouch... ya, most have always said those n/a 8 valves were turds! haha

  • When I'm older i'm looking for one of those. I love that sound so much.

  • Sounds like a Wartburg 353w,or Barcas b1000.

  • same basic engine design...

  • Hey, P.s. Do you have to mix the gas, or is it oil injected like a snowmobile?

  • I mix the gas in mine. 1 quart per tank yields 33:1 mix. My first one (scrapped as a parts car)came with an optional standard BHP oil injected engine, but it expired many years ago and was replaced with a mixer engine... The car in the video was the same, though it runs the engine form the parts car, as I bought this one without an engine.

The high performance Monte Carlo 850 and GT 850 models had 50+ BHP and oil injection.

  • OIC Thanks! you just got yourself a subscription! :)

  • Holy Geez! I didn't know anything about these old Saabs until I saw this! 2 stroke?? intriguing... Very cool! never seen anything like it! I'm a VW guy myself. Thanks for the vid:)

  • are you in a saab club?

  • no, not technically. But I try to go to he local SAAB club meets when I can.

  • Yeah at first I thought it was him being funny.... you have similar cadence and word usage.

  • Sounds good!

Anyone told you you could look and sound like Chip's little brother?

    Jeremy

  • haha no, cant say I've heard that! I did notice that I sound shockingly similar though! lol

  • No slackin allowed........ wait till next year or when ever....;-)

    Tom

  • Thanks Cody... Love your car...... Need to post my 2-stroke Monte Carlo 850 someday....... How about some deer and elk hunting DV too????

    Tom in Evergreen

  • well I'm gonna be a senior next year, so I may be able to get away with slackin off a bit to get out to the woods!

  • excelent video, love it as always.

  • Okay, the engine sounds good... but don't we get to go for a drive?

  • didnt have enough time for that, let alone a third hand to hold the camera! haha

  • What's that loud ticking sound that starts when you turn on the ignition?

  • That is an aftermarket Bendix electric fuel pump mounted under the rear seat. My first SAAB (nearly identical to this one) had that same pump located on the right-front fender well, which is a better location (pulls better than it pushes)... eventually I may redo the lines and move the pump so it's quieter.
