There is no secret to how he does the domes???? I just think he wants there to look like there is??? I have to agree this video is a waste of space, its a shame but to me all this dude was doing was trying to advertise himself and what he could sell..Which by the way if you take the time to do a bit of research you can get from ebay.. With regards to his domes just follow the instruction in this web page..
Will net let me post web site but its at lightpaintingphotography
Why the hate for not giving away trade secrets? Jason, keep up the amazing work! And thank you for the tutorials you have put on YouTube. Your work is great and very innovative. Don't listen to these douchenozzles who are hating on you for no good reason. These are the same people who would say the same things if you did indeed reveal your secrets.
@RedVibeGT No one said the guy doesn't do a great job, is just that this video, unlike others from adorama, is completely useless, I came here hoping to learn something and all I learned was how to keep a secret... If you dont want to explain a certain photographic technique that you have developed, dont mention it on a video tutorial just to get some publicity, it seems that this video was only done, not to educate people, but to publicize the photographer and the store.
"I am waiting for people to figure that out"...Dude get over yourself your stuff is NOT HOT. Why did they interview this clown? Real photographers like McNally, Cowart and Dave Black (who made a living doing this give their secrets away all the time). Ansel Adams gave his secrets. Meanwhile this MOMO is playing secret agent. His partnership should be short lived.
@ploogasm this is nothing new and unique so if he doesn't want to speak for his techniques and methods why is on adorama tv??? why he speaks for something that he don't want??? that is the problem not my or something else creativity.
All these people hating on Jason are morons. This guy has done more to share light painting photography "secret techniques" and other information than anyone else. Look at his website and tutorials! He is an innovator and should not give away ALL his secrets. He shared a ton of good information in this video and the sad losers that can't be creative on their own latch onto the two he didn't want to talk about. He SHOULD NOT give all the details to expose his GROUND BREAKING WORK.
CHANGE THE TITLE FROM HOW'D THEY DO THAT TO GUESS MY SECRET FOR THIS GUY!!. IF HE DOES NOT WANT TO SHARE HIS EXPERTISE THEN HE SHOULD HAVE NOT ACCEPTED THE INTERVIEW.
Dennis smith would have made for a far more interesting interview, as far as light painting is concerned. He's a master of sphere painting. Search for "ball of light" on vimeo. It may be on here to? This guy was just trying to promote himself rather than share any useful information. Thats how i felt after watching this anyway.
Am I the only one here who thinks he's entitled to keep his secrets if he wishes. He has given us the ingredients and posted a challenge, I choose to accept that challenge and figure out the technique used to make those images. I've got a good idea on how he made them, I just need to test my theories. Nothing is wrong with some good old fashioned experimentation, thats how we learn new things. Now to find a fly...
This guy is the first person in the world to capture a dragonfly or two seperate dragonflies in the SAME EXACT POSITION!!! Not only did he accomplish this but he did it in the same exposure... Right... Look at the right and left dragon fly exactly the same angle and wing position, no photoshop there. Same thing with the cricket(s) but he rotated those... I have unlocked his secrets, make a bunch of layers with smart objects over a average photo and claim that you dont EVER use photoshop... A
Why is everybody complaining? The guy sort of explained how he did it. I mean, it's just a slow shutter technique, there's not much else to it. Just drag your shutter and use a flashlight, a cellphone or a laser to draw the lines. I think it's a matter of experimentation, but I guess everybody was waiting for an exact recipe and in photography there's not such a thing. It's like people asking "which is the best lens?"
Gawd what a bunch of whiners!! If you want a new technique why not invent one for yourself instead of pouring on the hate for this guy trying to make a living? In fact why not use your brains and figure out how to do it yourselves? Sheesh.
That's how you make the domes. Yes secret to himself.. LOL... I am amazed and surprised how Adorama TV put this guy up. I hate when people accept to make a presentation etc and say ohh I cannot tell you it is a secret. If you don't wan't to reveal secrets (which is not a secret) don't accept interview or Adorama TV shouldn't accept such behavior. Period.
Pretty sad to show off photo techniques, but then keep it a secret. So it wasn't really an informative video, but rather just a "look how awesome this guy is" video for his own self promotion.
Well, I don't blame him! I wouldn't give my secrets away either! And I actually thought he gave a lot of insight about his light painting technique! NICE JOB MARK ONCE AGAIN!!!!
I have came up with two ideas on how did he do that dragonfly image.
First is to do multiple exposure - firstly with flash moving around and "haunting" dragonflies but keeping all the rest of the image underexposed and then set camera on tripod and do last exposure as usual.
Second idea is to use small beam of flash light triggered with move detector and hope that you cach some dragonflies in a very long exposure.
I could only stand the sound up to 4:01....videso need to be atractive in order to stay put all the time....this was a nice topic but really boring I quit at that time and see he's got 'secrets' then why sahre then why bother to see....it goees backwards to the Mark Wallace style imho...regards...O
His dome is not a bike wheel dome. His involves a rod mounted to a spring hinge a ac powered drill and an in line dimmer switch to vary the speed of the drill and some colored light bulbs attached to the stick. The spring hinge (rigged to the drill) keeps the stick upright and as you vary the drill (any motor really) the stick lays down and stands up. Tada. Deff not a bike wheel dome as the diff colors remain the same distance from the mid of the dome
Hey Jason, did you know that if you put your camera in Bulb mode and throw it high up in the air and if you are lucky enough to catch it,you'll get a cool image enough for your BnB :) .oops ! I revealed a secret 0-))
The flash freezes the dragonflies in bulb mode and rest of the image was filled in by light painting or LE ,you have to fire the flash like from its check button etc.
to draw them closer use the small torch light or you can catch them and release them in front of the cam :)
@MrMAAKK Thanks, good way of doing it but I don't think the dragonflies in his image aren't real. They look like they're drawn. I think he used your technique but held up illustrations of dragonflies. The 2 sets of them either side of the main one are identical in look & direction.
They should be briefed before any interview. I understand the secrecy but how he answers questions doesn't help him at all. He'd be best off on a blog or something. Not on a show.
I am sorry, dont appear on a howd they do it if youre not going to tell HOW YOU DID IT. Sheesh thats not hard to get............ Mark I like you, but really this is just corny
So you wanna know the secrets guys, the domes are made using a bicycle wheel. Follow the links in the comments below. The dragonflies are made using a paper stencil placed infront of a softbox type attachment and by using a flash burst from behind the dragonflies appear. I've been doing it for years and kept the secret too until the creator revealed the secret. So here you go, try it and thank me later :)
the secrets already been put out. the inventor, Andrew Whyte, finally let the world know about his technique, using a bike wheel, and there are many tutorials out now. Jason Page was keeping the "secret" in respect to the inventor until he came out with the technique
This guy has a right to keep his techniques under his hat. It's his intellectual property. What do you not understand about that? Go invent a technique of your own.
@Sabir4u - Turn your brain on and figure out how you can achieve similar images. It does not matter if the final technique is identical or not, as long as Jason Page's image inspires you to TRY. The light domes are easy, as are the Dragon Flies...
@MrSolev "We are here to learn and share" ??? No, you are all here because you have no innovation or creativity of your own. You expect to be given a shopping list of tools, instructional video for every method, and basically an app for generating images that you sadly can't even wrap your mind around. The domes has been revealed elsewhere, there's no point of keeping it secret. Was he even the first one to first create the tool to make the domes.
Dragnflies: hint=580exII. quick flash to capture the dragonflies slightly overexposed in flight, then let the rest of the image burn in.
