I see you are on DIYDRONES as well. Well, I'm still in the very beginning of microcontrollers (AVR and PIC) but I'm planning to buy an open-source quadrocopter 450 from REELY (it's available at CONRAD). It has built-in attitude stabilization, atmega168 main processor and atmega8's for each motors. Also has an rs232 interface for additional equipment-so I guess it can easily turn into an UAV.
