No idea how the director managed to get an hour-long film out of so little actual footage but it was really insightful and shows just how dedicated these guys are to making music. Really quite inspirational and interesting to see how complicated it is to make an album as good as "Boxer" as well. Could have been a lot shorter or had more interviews though. Also, the drummer was born to drum - he is unreal!

Its called Anthem, an early version of Slow Show, I can send it to you if you shoot me a message, or you can search online for a download of something called the Tarquin Roughs by The National, which is a collection of leaked demos from Boxer someone got a hold of. The whole thing is fascinating.

After only half a minute I could tell that everyone's negative remarks about this documentary are completely justifiable in my own mind. So many people want to be artists (filmmakers, photographers, painters, interior designers) but seem to be more interested in the name rather than actually providing an audience with true art, not shaky cameras and camera effects.

I watched the whole thing, I kind of liked it. It was a bit of a yawn in some parts, and I wish the guy that filmed it wasn't so into the "shots of random things= art" thing that went on quite a bit throughout the movie. There could have been more complete songs, that would have been nice. I did think that the combination of music and interviews was well done, and the behind the scenes aspect of the songwriting was cool. So it wasn't all bad, it just could have been a lot more exciting.

Amazing video.. Thats exactly what I wanted to see. Behind the scenes of The National.. The same struggles every band goes through. This just shows the effort time and money that goes in to creating something amazing rather than people just thinking they just happen to make great music. They put the hard work and dedication into it and you are reaping the the benefits now. Ill be watching live tonight on youtube..... Ive heard of this band some years back, but rather shocked to find them likely to have a top 5 album in the uk. I do my own radio show like to think im quite up to date with indie bands who are breaking through. No real comerical airplay, no solid fan base in the uk, and yet likely to sell around 30,000 records this week, any explenations?

because of the kind of music they make, no instant hits, stuff that needs time, their fan base grows in between two records rather than right after the release of a record in the wake of an advertisement campaign. In a way, those 30,000 records were not sold in a week, they were sold in the last three years.
