Just had the pleasure of watching my 13-year-old granddaughter play Hodel in a production at Willowbrook Arts Camp, Tualatin, Oregon. It was a magic moment... Is this the little girl born from the little girl I carried? Thanks to all for making this production very memorable for a grandmother. My grandfather and my husband's father were both Jews who were driven out of Russia in the early 1900s. Luckily, both of them made their way to America to continue our lineage.

You and others may appreciate this story. Several years ago I was a special consultant to a production of Fiddler at a rural high school. The most experienced actor on stage was the girl playing Hodel. The first dress rehearsal, with the orchestra, was also the first real run-through without stopping. Everything went fine until the railway scene. Hodel started her song, Far From the Home I I Love, as she had done at many rehearsals. Suddenly she started sobbing. (cont'd)

The director reassured her, pointing out that she was really identifying with the show and the character of Hodel. She regained her composure and finished the song.
