Dear Aaron: I am devastated by your death. You were a big part of so many of our lives. So many of us depended on you for guidance and support and you always gave it. When we found out you died of an over dose, the world seemed to stand still for a moment and nothing else mattered. Your death will not be in vain. Many of us will wonder why you did what you did, but many of us will heed your final action and we will live on. R.I.P. my friend. I pray for your parents and your sister. We love you.
This song has great significance to me. I remember singing it right before we left the Brasilian MTC. I have often wondered if some heavenly choir sang this before we entered mortality.
I always attribute this song to death in so many ways, instead of just merely saying goodbye. I love this song dearly - it always brings tears to my eyes and will always stand with "I Stand All Amazed" and "I Need Thee Every Hour". How wonderful our gospel is that we can see our family in Heaven again through the atonement and sacrifice of our Lord and Savior, our brother, Jesus Christ. God be with us all - 'til we meet again.
There are two instances that I have sung this hymn (besides church services). The first was to the people that I served when I was leaving Brazil to return home from my mission. The second was quietly to myself at my Grandmother's funeral several years ago (she was not LDS) to help me remember that this is but a temporary separation. I look forward to seeing her again.
