If you made this video, you are one bad ass! I hope you made it! I really like it. If you didn't, you are a thief and should remove it.There is a big difference between a creative fan and a no good thief. I've had others post my videos and it makes me fuming mad.
@AnoziraNoscut Here is a quote from the (im)poster on their youtube page comment section,"its just a hobby of mine to upload stuff I like." My comment stands. They're great videos and John Prine has been one of my absolute favorites for a long, long time. However, the videos are not theirs to post! Please read my comment again. Thank you for posting this video again! I really met John that year when he came down for the family reunion and stayed at Shanty Hollow Lake. His wife was preagnant at the time and he didn't play the festival.
I was fortunate enough to be invited to see John and family that nite. I was truely grateful and it was a great time to just sit and listen to John and his brother talk about old times not counting the great music we were fortunate to hear that night!
@Hickbilly9 I remember it very vividly because my wife and I at the time just had our son who only a year old at the time. I remember how the wind off the lake was cool that night and we snuggled up in a blanket in a layout lawn chair.
She is no longer with us do to breast cancer but that's a night I will NEVER forget. What a great time we had sharing stories of the past and great music!
Thanks to who ever posted this video because I was there and it brought back such great memories! TYTY
I am from Chicago area, went to UK, fell in love with this song. I had no idea until today that John Prine is from Maywood, IL--that is the shittiest of shit cities just outside Chicago
@MrBuk86 it's just one of those broken down, nothin but shitty houses and factories kinda place. probably full of brownfields that people don't know about. it's also right next to a I-290 which is trafficky in itself and causes traffic all around on the local roads
he is playing in C I think and using g chord shapes after capoing up to the 5th fret. Only "off chord" is he uses an A chord. Pretty straight forward.
@gnatuw7180 Using no capo, the chords for Donald and Lydia are as follows:
C-F-C D7-G7 ...Making change...C-F-C G7 RAy...C Lydia hid her thoughts..F-C
D7-deep in her fat G7 She read romance C..magazines F in room C and felt just like her G7 Saturday afternoon C Chorus: F Dreaming just comes Natural C like the G7 first breath from a C baby...etc. hope this helps.
I've knew John all my life and love his music. What happened to the video of him just sitting in the boat and telling how he wrote a song about an old girl that pulled out a Martin guitar from behind the couch and playing the song???
I would LOVE to see that part of the video again!!! Thx for sharing the tunes!
This has to be my all time favorite. It's so sad what progress has destroyed and the small mining towns are a thing of the past. We're slowly making America nothing buy concrete and buildings. Americana no longer exists:(
I'm from Appalachia and I love this song. The name should have been "Paradise Lost." It's a shame that some of these beautiful places have been raped by strip mining. On the other hand it would be an economic disaster to get rid of the coal companies. I'm glad that John Prine wrote this song.
I am almost ashamed that I never heard this song until last night. I'm 32 years old, a huge music fan, but have never heard this. I sat in my seat and cried listening to these lyrics...I guess all I can say is that I"m glad that real musicians recognize and appreciate the impact this man has had on music. While the mainstream pop culture idiots may not recognize him, music and history will. Thank you John Prine, from a 32 year old northern boy that finally gets it.
Yes this video does bring back memories. memories of when i was three or four years old, those are the best memorable years, those are the years you miss more and more every single day because you cant rewind time and revisit them. this is truly an amazing song. my respect is yours Mr Prine.
this man is my hero, and not only that he his the best north american singer song writer of all the 20th centruy up to this date, god bless you with longevity mr.prine
