So you were able to take down a jet? Whoopty do. You would have been more useful doing something productive like capturing a flag, or trolling tanks. For 90% or more of the time, jets can be ignored completely. Not to mention you weren't even checking the area around you - you could have been spotted from 3 miles away, and have someone walk up casually and knife you without you even seeing it.

stingers are meant for helis, jets are too fast so theres no point in trying to aim for them. if you get hit by one in a jet you're either a noob or you suck ass

Stingers will easily hit jets. Its just that the jet can take a hit from one without getting disabled.

So you would have to lock on to them 4 times, 1 for flares, 1 for damage, another 1 for flares, and finally the last one for the disable / destroy it.

and even then they could just jump out of the jet before it blew up.

this is all ignoring the fact they can possibly out maneuver the SAM, and the fact they can simply fly out of range and recharge their flares / health.
