PDF's look like shit on all Ebook readers. Amazon is huge and doesn't seem to be losing steam anytime soon, so in my family there are four Kindles. Getting lots of books is very easy. If you find books that are not AZW or Mobi, you can use Calibre to convert them. Calibre does convert PDF files but they still suck. If you have the patience you can use an OCR software to convert the PDF, but it is a task, even if you pay for ABBYY Finereader. The one huge advantage is the SD card slot.
I have a Kobo touch and it is brilliant. I'd recommend the touch above the Kindle due to more places to buy books and ability to borrow elibrary books.
Why The Kobo is actually better. You're not forced to use the Kobo book store like you are forced to only use Amazon books on the Kindle, you can read .epub file books from any store and open pdf, rtf and txt files. A new update brought 7 new fonts into the mixture so there are nine now. It is smaller, more robust and user friendly with regular updates (games, apps, etc:).
The kindle is nice but I know which one I'm getting...
biased. You can buy books from anyone but amazon when you use the kobo. Amazon has a specific file type on all of their ebooks that will only work with kindle. I would like to be able to shop around on prices for my ebooks, so I will always go with one that uses EPUB format.

Oh fuck off. This VIDEO IS BASED AGAINST KOBO!!!!!!
FUCK THIS VIDEO!
THUMBS DOWN!!!!!!!!!
I am sooooo fucking angry. i am fucking TIRED Of this biased shit against the device i paid by hard earned cash for! FUCK this shit! i just broke my keybaord i'm so bad.......
Clearly biased to the kindle. He fails to mention that the Kobo is not proprietary. You are able to access all saleable book databases ( well over 2.5 million books) while the Kindle is amazon.com only. There are some much better written reviews of the 2 that are less biased.
@johnek2002 So it's possible to read kindle/nook/other ebooks on kobo? That would definitely be a major selling point for me but I wasn't sure about it.
@OsirisIX Than the answer is yes. Do a google search for calibre-ebook... It will allow you to easily convert differant formats like PDF and EPUB to Kindle. The Kindle does show PDF natively, but it doesn't look great so you'll want it converted for easy reading.
What disturbs me is that, from the Chapters/Indigo bookstore chain in Canada, "The Communist Manifesto" by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels is included as the 100 Classic books pre-loaded. Communism has killed at least 130 million people so far. 10% of all Canadians are refugees from Communism or the descendents of refugees from Communism. Tell the Chapters / Indigo bookstore monopoly you are not interested in buying mandatory Communism with your Kobo e-book reader.
What I like about the kobo touch that most reviewers fail to mention is that it has an SD card slot whereas the kindle doesn't. I can borrow ebooks from the library on the kobo but not on the kindle. It is lighter and smaller than the kindle. It is a much sturdier and robust machine than the kindle. And the cover has a nice rubbery feel to it that doesn't scratch or damage easily. I've dropped my kobo touch a couple of times and there's not even a scratch on it.
Oh, wait, I see from the "show more" info that your web site is actually the-ebook-reader(dot)com. I suggest that you correct the URL shown in your video, to add the missing hyphens.
Um just sating the Kobo does have line margin changing and all that stuff and a bookmark... go to the two Aa's in the bottom right corner when reading :) You might wanna figure out more about before you compare.
@HarpersIslandluvr i know this is 2 months late but just an FYI - kobo actually has updates so at the time he made this video the options you are talking about weren't available; they were added in later updates. :)
Not sure if you have herd of Calibre, Really awesome free program to manage your ebooks library. Reason for mentioning it was that you can put any format of ebook into it, (kindle, mobi, epub, pdf, txt, doc, chm, etc..) and it will convert it and make it kindle compatible and will then transfer it to your kindle. It will also fetch all metadata for your ebooks covers, summary, isbn #, etc..I've only used it with the kindle, but might work with the kobo. opens up the type of books u can add.
Thanks for your awesome review ! You have a clear voice ! I want read pdf with 20mb of size. Wich tablet you recommend for me : Kindle 3 , Kobo or Nook ? Can the nook handle with that ? I liked it because this tablet have android system.

The Kobo is much faster now with the newest firmware. It really lags in this video but now it doesn't, it is even faster than the Kindle.

Regarding DRM, can I use the ebooks I have stored on my PC on either of these models? I mean, I don't necessarily have to use their stores, right?

Is the layout/visual appeal of the Kobo (home screen/quilted back) enough to promote itself over the Kindle?
Cost is not a factor.

No contest. The kindle wins. The kobo is a step backwards with poor screen contrast.

@dtz1000 the contrast is the same, they both use the same screen (e ink pearl)
