It's may be small, but when you are going 150 mph just a 4 inch curb puts a literally tons of force through the suspension. Besides, they are put there to prevent corner cutting, and he just cut it too close.

Driving 200 mph is dangerous itself... Besides you need some kind of deterrent to prevent corner cutting besides judgements from the stewards. Plus the sticks have give to them, they aren't rigid in the ground.

Then this happens. It's much harder on the suspension. I think the best solution would just be to go back to the really bumpy curbs on the inside of the normal ones. They cost you a ton of time and usually put you off track.

Problem with that is that people get knocked out of the race even if they accidentally overrun a corner and almost guarantees a safety car has to come out while they clear the car.
