  • My Collings cracked because it got too dry. My fault. When I called Collings, they didn't want to fix anything. They said they don't have enough staff to handle repairs. I guess it would be different if it was actual warranty... They recommended I ship it to New Hampshire. I was quoted $850 and three months plus shipping both ways. Many luthiers don't do shipping at all. Basically, if it happens, you're on your own. It's just wood, right?

  • In the winter , I just put a BUCKET OF WATER, next to the guitar on the stand. A few thimbles of clorox in the water of course.

I dont see how you destroy such a well made guitar unless you keep them on the radiator.

  • i bought mine used from a kid from denver and it had cracks in it that got progressively worse. steve helped me out and took me on a tour of the factory. nicest guy around, btw. but with shipping (back to NYC) it was about $600 to repair. bought a humidifier a week after i got the guitar back and i've been quite diligent about keeping the humidifier going but i've got three big cracks in it. looking at a few hundred more bucks. hurts to pay so much to maintain such a fragile instrument.
