This album used to blow my mind and every cell in my body. Still makes me ache. So sexy too. Intensely. Being in the middle of nowhere in Wales and BeforeInternet I didn't know any one else who liked them so it was ultra personal. Think I was about 14 /15 years old, it was such a great age to experience this.
Not a big Curve fan, as I think they were trying to be better than they actually were, but this track as well as "Horror Head" are the greatest songs they released. Unfortunately, I'd think higher of them if they didn't capitalize so heavily on the success of My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless." What Curve had going for them is a strong female lead and they should have been bigger than they were. ..but quality matters and they were spotty at best.
@TyphoidBryan ...well that you opinion. I dont really hear the MBV comparisons - Cuckoo? MBV weren't 'big' (heaven forbid!) come to think of it who were 'big' - well that's indie for ya! Plus you're a bit too young - methinks you're a revisionist, or mabye you were fawning over MBV when you were 13?
@TyphoidBryan I'm not quite sure what you mean . My Bloody Valentine is an awesome band , But Curve has nothing that sounds even close from the material I have heard, And I am not missing much as I am a Huge Curve fan . Now lets talk about Garbage Capitalizing on Curve's sound , In A BIG Way And Cherry is probably considered Curves best By many people . Myself, I would choose Low and Behold.
Love Toni, she is a woman that garners attention with her looks, then slaps you in the face with attitude and persona, and this song is a perfect fit, aggressive and in your face.
Always annoys me that Garbage (with their appropriate name) were the ones that got the attention when Curve were before them, better and much more exciting. It's only because that media whore Vig got the attention and just plagiarized a sound and style done better than he could ever do.
@chunkylimey What the fuck have Garbage to do with the success of Curve? If anything the comparison drew many fans of Garbage (Like me) to listen to Curve. Don't get all grumpy and defensive.
@TheCanadianPrairies The problem with that statement is that you mentioned both bands in the same sentence . No not equally at all . I like Garbage. I love Curve. Curve influenced a lot of the sounds that Garbage make . No denying that . While I am sure that other bands influenced Curve . I haven't heard those influences to any degree that would confuse people as to which band sounds like which . Man ypeople that hear Garbage first think that Curve sounds like Garbage. Tisk. Tisk .
Understandable (reminds me of Exhorder/Pantera, Bush/Nirvana...) but I feel that both each have made great music and that, in light of the music world being what it is nowadays in the modern era, both ought to be upheld as fine examples of how to make music. I love both Garbage and Curve - two of my many favorite bands and musicians and can listen to either one and feel satisfied. Hell, even Curve likes Garbage according to interviews with Toni.
Curve... are finished. Check out what Deano is up to on Noise-Fest. Toni is busying herself with Chatelaine. Drop by, have a chat, catch up with some like minded people. We are very open minded forum, and not mean spirited!

Exactly. ALMOST every sound has been explored. It can't be helped . Musical instruments all have their limits. So do human voices , faces, thoughts. It can't be helped . there will ALWAYS be a over zealous fan who thinks someone "stole" their fav. bands style.
Absolutely brilliant band with such a fully realized sound. What an incredibly bombastic mix of metal, grunge, and techno. Sounds like it's from another planet. Thank you Toni Halliday, Dean Garcia and the others for creating such wonderfully original and timeless music.
I was in 8th grade when this came out, discovered it for myself after high school and am still cursing myself for missing them when then were touring the states back in the day. Great video from a time when great videos were still being made.
I like "beautifulgarbage" and "Bleed Like Me". Yes, bg is a bit of a letdown when compared to the band's first two albums but there are some excellent songs on there. And BLM is just as good as their debut album (if not necessarily better).
I didn't realize Curve put out music videos. This song, as is all of "Doppelganger", is excellent.
On another note, quit mocking Garbage. Even though Curve put out a flawless debut album some of their later stuff isn't nearly as good. At least Garbage's music is consistently good.
i wouldnt say consistently good. i was a garbage fan before a curve fan, and garbage's first 2 albums are the only good ones in my opinion. curve's albums are/were consitently good.
Silmalila, you make an awful lot of assumptions about other people's Gods. In the name of Necroticus the Soul Searer I curse thee... :) Have a nice day.
Used to dance to this at the end of my career as a dancer, Toni Halliday afforded me some interesting choreography and when I performed with her singing it was black magic.

I hope Toni sings again soon. I miss her ice cool vocal. Dean Garcia's collaboration with Collide, 'The Secret Meeting' is very good also, just bought it.
I love this video. I wish there was some way in hell Curve would be able to release a DVD comp of all their music vids. I have a "high quality" bootleg VHS of all of their vids up until Chinese Burn, but I don't have a VCR anymore :-(
The Magazine Alternative Press, which was a 90's music mag had a contest on who was the hottest women in Rock and Roll and Toni came in second after Madonna.
I went to the curve site the other week and i have to say i was pissed about toni's comments for why she's not in curve anymore.
I mean yeah it must have been so hard having all those adoring fans telling you you are so talented, being the darlings of the music press must have been SO trying, having invented a new musical genre must have been such a drag....
I was 21 years old when I became transfixed by Toni and Curve. I couldn't get enough of them. That was in 1994. I'm 34 now and they still blow me away. I'd love to have seen them. I don't think they ever came to Australia though.
I was 16 when I first heard them on a free-format radio station in the midwest in '93. Four years later as college radio dj playing them on the air as well - then I got to see them in Cleveland and then a few years later in Manchester England. Awesome. I love Toni.
IN my proffessiomal capacity i`d say this probably wasnt Toni`s best time of life judging from this vid but the music is still current and rocks! Toni was our answer to the silly cow called blondie! but Toni had the looks and brains to match!
Err! feckin Garbage are just that! no comparison! Curve still rool! still sound fresh! Maybe not around but they still kick ass! and can mellow you out to! If they was to reform just think how they could fuck over all the shite thats around now!!! well! ! can dream!
Curve proves that there is no god and the universe is unfair. I miss them more than I miss Les Zepplin, Sex Pistols, Nirvana, and the Ramoans put together. If Garbage ever does a Curve cover, then I am giving up on music for the rest of my life and destroy my eardrums.
CURVE would seem to certainly explore the darker facets of experientiality, but not to the dredging extent of say The Velvet Underground. at least, to CURVE, there would seem to be a certain intense "beauty" in the world. the darkest music out there denies even that!
listening to Curve often makes me feel like i'm pregnant with a poltergeist, & i'm a guy. i can't seem to get enough sometimes though. love them. where do i find people like this to collaborate with. regardless, i'll pray for Curve, ...& me too, no doubt...
I met Toni and Dean after a show in St Louis and were two of the most genuinely nice people you could meet, we had a few drinks and talked about life. Good people, amazing band...
Why do people keep mentioning Garbage? Garbage are nothing like Curve really. Just because they have a female fronted singer and a combination of electronic production with post industrial guitar sound doesn't mean anything. How many bands are there with a male singer, a guitarist, bass and drums? Yeah they're all ripping off the Beatles aren't they because its the same formation!!! Anyway Curve are awesome, Grabage are too.
Why are so many complaints about Garbage? Because Curve had their own unique sound, Toni's purr/snarl, Deans bass lines, the mechanized beats, the reverb and wall of sound (near Shoegazer genre), and Garbage completely ripped (bit) Curve's style/energy from a decade back. Its almost as silly as some band trying to emulate Dead Can Dance or the Cocteau Twins 10 years later and claiming their own sound. The people have spoken. Garbage, what else can you say.
Couldn't agree more. People should stop complaining and start enjoying the music. They are both awesome bands. I like Garbage better, but that's just me. It doesn't mean I can't enjoy Curve.
i'm so in love ........garbage is garbage and should not be mentioned in the same room wherever curve is being played .....otherwise the going to be HOMICIDE if i here it . Did i mention how much i like curve
it has been a lifesaver on many a dark night. Unfortunately after much thought and consideration I have come to the realisation that I can no longer continue with Curve on a musical level and have therefore decided to pursue other avenues. I won't go into details but a few things happened to me last year that really drained me of any confidence
I had and made me realise it was time to move on or be in danger of becoming bitter and twisted and losing my love for music. I have also felt less and less fulfilled with my position in Curve over the last few years and seemed to be no longer enjoying my work as much as I have in the past. I do intend to do small one off projects in the future but nothing that needs the time and commitment of a full time band.
I hope that you understand my feelings on this, we have been together a long time and I feel that it has come to it's natural end with a lot of good work achieved in the last 15 years. I wish YOU all the best for the future,
I like garbage and curve..although i did think Garbage copied from them slightly. That points been over played tho I think. How many bands did say, Nirvana copy I wonder? Just enjoy them all, eveyones a winner!
I don't think it's overplayed since it's unbelievably annoying to show someone Curve and have them say "That sounds like that band Garbage". Arrrrgh. So it must be said every time. ;)
this tune introduced me to their music. i hadn't heard anything like it. I bought the pubic fruit album (collection of ep's). unbelievably good! she is a sexy girl with a great voice.
This song strikes with hurricane force. Curve was truly brilliant, but definitely not mainstream, even in their heyday. Perhaps that's for the best -- have you listened to what's popular now?
I Love Curve! I still introduce people to their music. Toni and Dean must give it another go! ahh this video brings back great memories-I love ya Shirl but you've got nothing on Toni-nothing! Curve was horribly underappreciated.
God , powerful images .powerful music, one could easily miss Toni's lyrics and just listen to the earcandy. She's like Blondie and Chrissy Hynde's superbaby. absudly beautiful sounds here, still. Checkout horrorhead
I used to watch this on 120 Minutes on MTV about 20 years ago.

If Garbage ever does a Curve cover, then I am giving up on music for the rest of my life and destroy my eardrums.
hank1972 4 years ago

Anyway Curve are awesome, Grabage are too.
alexjamesdf 4 years ago 4
Well the song sounds like it could have been a Garbage song, nothing bad with that. Its not the formation its the sound. No need to get hostile :)
Stefmanovic 4 years ago
Well, this is from 1991 so quite a while before Garbage, who are seen as newer poppy derivative of Curve
jackjude 4 years ago
Why are so many complaints about Garbage? Because Curve had their own unique sound, Toni's purr/snarl, Deans bass lines, the mechanized beats, the reverb and wall of sound (near Shoegazer genre), and Garbage completely ripped (bit) Curve's style/energy from a decade back. Its almost as silly as some band trying to emulate Dead Can Dance or the Cocteau Twins 10 years later and claiming their own sound. The people have spoken. Garbage, what else can you say.
orangevideo 4 years ago
Couldn't agree more. People should stop complaining and start enjoying the music. They are both awesome bands. I like Garbage better, but that's just me. It doesn't mean I can't enjoy Curve.

MESSAGE FROM TONI 31.1.2005
Dear Fans Everywhere, before I start I would just like to thank all of you for your loyalty and commitment to Curve over the years,
AtwistedNether 4 years ago
it has been a lifesaver on many a dark night. Unfortunately after much thought and consideration I have come to the realisation that I can no longer continue with Curve on a musical level and have therefore decided to pursue other avenues. I won't go into details but a few things happened to me last year that really drained me of any confidence
AtwistedNether 4 years ago
I had and made me realise it was time to move on or be in danger of becoming bitter and twisted and losing my love for music. I have also felt less and less fulfilled with my position in Curve over the last few years and seemed to be no longer enjoying my work as much as I have in the past. I do intend to do small one off projects in the future but nothing that needs the time and commitment of a full time band.
AtwistedNether 4 years ago
I hope that you understand my feelings on this, we have been together a long time and I feel that it has come to it's natural end with a lot of good work achieved in the last 15 years. I wish YOU all the best for the future,
Best Wishes,
Toni.

"slightly?":
garbage would not even exist if it were not for curve. learn your music history!

I like garbage and curve..although i did think Garbage copied from them slightly. That points been over played tho I think. How many bands did say, Nirvana copy I wonder? Just enjoy them all, eveyones a winner!
Benzi75 4 years ago
I don't think it's overplayed since it's unbelievably annoying to show someone Curve and have them say "That sounds like that band Garbage". Arrrrgh. So it must be said every time. ;)

this tune introduced me to their music. i hadn't heard anything like it. I bought the pubic fruit album (collection of ep's). unbelievably good! she is a sexy girl with a great voice.

Oh Toni Toni Toni.....sexy sexy sexy (Garbage owes Curve residuals for the rest of their lives).

This song strikes with hurricane force. Curve was truly brilliant, but definitely not mainstream, even in their heyday. Perhaps that's for the best -- have you listened to what's popular now?

It still angers me, to this day, that Garbage robbed them blind, and didn't even kiss them after all that fukkery.
Curve was brilliant, and criminally overlooked.

Garbage never came close to sounding like Curve.
I was blown away the fist time I heard Toni's voice and I stil am to this day, 13 years later.
