  • You need to reread my post. My point is not how much HP, but how long it will last. A 15 year old motor with alot of miles with stock pistons/rods making over 400HP will live a short life

  • If a stock that is tuned properly is good for 500hp wht wouldn't you use forged rods and pistons? Ford put forged pistons in their 87-92 5.0 Mustangs. Forged pistons/rods in 03-04 Cobra which made about 360rwhp. The 2003 Lightning had forged rods/pistons. The point is that Ford put forged rods/pistons in many late model HO cars making much less than 500hp, so why not a stock block set-up making 450hp. Stock rods/pistons in a stock block making 425hp will definitley fail @ race conditions,

  • forgive me, I'm not familiar with superchargers, what is needed to bolt on a superchrager kit to a 302, like what internals are needed, cams, rods, pistons, lifters, etc,? I've heard a stock 302 can handle a kit with low boost, but idk how much. Is a supercharger kit hard to install and does alot of the engine components need to be removed to bolt it on??

  • @spuds355 check trick flows webpage..... the valve cover gaskets can be stock. but if you are using stock valve covers with aftermarket rockers, you WILL have to grind out a ton of shit from the inside of the valve cover for them to clear. its alot easier to just buy a diff set of valve covers. if you go with the taller trick flow covers, make sure you get a 1" plenum spacer for between your upper and lower intake so the upper clears them

    too much fuel > not enough fuel. make sure you do your fuel pump as well, and get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator

  • The 87-92 Foxes had forged pistons. 93 was thefirst for Hypereutectic pistons.

    I don't blame him for wanting to go turbo. It is essentially free horsepower. there is no parasitic drag on the engine.

  • well The pistons and rods are forged but the cranks isnt but that doesnt mean it wont hold....the stock internals will hold MORE hp and torque than the stock block will. I am running a supercharged HCI combo on my stang making 540 rwhp and it is a BONE STOCK bottom end 302

  • I have read the other comments about you not using a forged crank, I have beat the living hell out of my stock bottom end, and I sprayed every week on Thursdays at the track, and in case you are wondering it is still going strong, I took the whole enging apart, and put new rings on the same pistons!! The bore looks like new and their is no cracks in the block!! FTW Ford built these little 5.0s right!

  • what is it with you guys running stock bottem ends go get foged pistons forged h-beam rods forged steel crank shaft then you wont be blowin shit up so easy most people out there know when you use super chargers and nitrous your bottom end has to be all forged you can not use stock bottem end parts othere wise youll keep blowin your shit up just thought id tell ya for you can save money in the long run

  • Because the pre 93 5.0's had forged pistons from the factory and if you run a safe tune and don't beat the crap out of the car the stock, thin webbed, low nickle block will split like a hot dog bun before the swing assembly quits. Why waste money on forged everything if you have to run at a power level that is safe enough for everything because of a weak block? Spend the money on a better block then add your forged parts ;)

  • @ATPengineering or just run the completely stock bottom end until it pops. then get new block and internals! the 5.0 is tougher then alot of people give it credit for. altough i will agree the block are only good to mabye 450ish rwhp.

  • i put out 405 on mustang dyno, but the people who rebuilt it instaed the thrust bearing wrong so all my bearing were wipped within 1 week. didnt know till i lost all oil pressure at about a month. we rebuilt it with serious port work and .040 speed pro forged pistons. head and main studs. about to drop it back in. should be around 500hp at the wheels. i just dont waa crack it, we will go with a mild tune. keep her around 450hp. you get no traction anyways. whats ur full set up??

  • i got a 93 witha vortech v-1 t-trim i has 450 hp with 6 psi the last time dynoed but i put a afm powerpipe on it now its got 10 psi... your car sonds great

  • well. it's 331 time now. when i pulled it apart, the rotating assembly looks to be junk. so i guess im going bigger. i think i do need to go to some bigger fuel rails now though.

  • i got the same supercharger, but lose the cobra intake, go with bbk ss1 intake, i replaced my cobra intake and i now run 3 tenths faster with the bbk intake, good luck

  • my lower is ported to match my heads. not sure the difference that makes, but i did like the bbk, especially because it is paired with the high flow rails

  • Dont buy the SSI... if you've ever been on mustangforums then you know its junk and a huge PITA to install...

  • yep. when u rebuilt my bottom end i put keith blacvk hyperutectic pistons in, big mistake. 3 days ao i lost oil pressue because one piston melted a hole again and my rings and all bearings were fryed. so now im into rebuilding it again

  • that crank is not forged steel man i know iv been inside those motors only think that might be forged is the pistons thats it not the crank or the rods anser this question was the weld on the crank a big fat weld or a long shoe strink thick weld anser this correctly then ill quit arguing with you

  • im not arguing. what blew was a headgasket, which wore a gouge in my aluminum head. when i took the block apart to deck it, i noticed the 3 and 7 pistons looked trashed. so i either ran lean and detonated at some point or had low oil pressure. the block is still fine.

    stock blocks are good to upwards of 500hp. which i was in that range. i gambled and lost. so be it, bigger and better to come

  • Going to the turbo was a much better idea. I've had both and the turbo rules. Bone stock 92 block with 147,000 miles and a 62 mm Turbonetics laid down 444.6 HP to the wheels and 538 lb/ft of torque. The blower with the same boost made 321 hp and only 370 on torque.

  • Im planning on making it back to a turbo setup. id like to get a time at the track before i take the blower off. i blew a headgasket and ruined an aluminum head. so once i fix that im going to get some times and probably end up turbo. im content where i am.... im sick of dropping so much on cars.
