"As you can see, Louise is not a Muslim". Why should that be obvious to someone watching this video? I have two white, Muslim friends that look and dress similar to Louise.
@rloken Obviously - it wasn't meant offensively. Obviously we are good friends. We joke with each other and the atmosphere between us is easy going. You're really nit picking if that's the only thing you came away with from the video.
@SalamSeeker I didnt mean to be nit-picking at all, sorry. I actually feel like it's quite a central these in the meeting of cultures and religions; if we cannot establish simple facts such as: Anyone can be a Muslim/Christian/Hindu and you certainly cannot tell from the way we speak, dress or act (although there might be a mainstream way of being for all of these groups) then how can we get beyond appearances and judgement.
I think you are an open-minded person, but judging from several other people's attitudes about Islam, unfortunately the same is not the case for many others, which often in turn has an underminding effect for them and their place in this multicultural world. Where I live, in Denmark, unfortunately this is painfully obvious in my university, at work, even on the street in many areas, and I wish it wasn't so.
@rloken GEE I WISH THE NON-MUSLIMS ANALYSE EVERYTHING AROUND THEM LIKE THEY ANALYZE EVERYTHING A MUSLIM HAS TO SAY, IF THEY DID THAT VERILY, VERILY, VERILY THEY WILL KNOW THEIR TRUE CREATOR!
@wo0ozie I think you perceived my comment as an attack which it wasn't. All I was pointing out is that if a Muslim expresses "obviously this is how we dress/should dress", I know at least two Muslims who would feel upset and excluded. About analyzing, most Muslims I know always strive to analyze their religious beliefs and the world around them to understand it better/be a better believer. So do I. Do you believe this is a bad idea?
@rloken no, but i believe that if someone's doing something wrong, then at least they need to feel bad about it, this is the least thing, the problem is, most people don't even want to feel guilty when doing something wrong, they dont want to be told that they're doing something wrong
@rloken well, i say, we muslims believe it's wrong for a girl to dress immodest, or not cover her ornaments and her hair, this is wrong, it could upset God, but this is just our belief, and we muslims are so convinced of our beliefs that we would want to share it wiith others.
@SalamSeeker Hey sorry , I did not mean for it to come out so bluntly , I just mean that whilst I have every respect for a Muslim sister (yes sister as we are all children of god , for those who would criticizes me saying that) I just think that as children of God we should respect that whilst something is more predominant of one religion , It does not mean that others don't also do it such as Christians as my self or Jews or Sikhs.
@CoveredForGod Its refreshing to meet someone like yourself. I find my self with great respect for you - May God Bless and Guide us through every aspect of life ,Ameen
@SalamSeeker Thank you ,I have great respect for you as it must take courage it practice you relgion especailly in this soicety and i just have to say i watch you video where you were talking about praying on a plane and half to say i think we all have those moments of o my what will i do , but it did make me giggle when you said there was a blanket praying in arabic
@CoveredForGod Thanks sis =) and yes it does take a bit of courage sometimes - I have had hate from various people because of anti islam feelings . Has anyone ever given you any form of abuse for covering the way you do? and LOL the planee... it was sooo hard to do wudu (washing before prayer) in that tiny little bathroom as well!!
@SalamSeeker I have only been covering a couple of months but i have had judgement from a couple of churches i have tried in my area as i am still looking for one as i am at university so i guess we shall see and oo my goodness i can guess , i do religious studies at university so i get what you mean by wudu haha but you must have been like a gymnast to do that in such a tiny space
Actually i don't think you must change your name. because the Prophet's companions had the same names before and after they were muslims. But I believe the Prophet (s.a.w) did encourage keeping meaningful names. And we muslims tend to keep the names of the Prophet's companions because their meanings are inspirational. And Arabic literature has some unique words that describe a bunch of meanings in one word. So that is why Muslims keep Arabic names.
great vidoe .. i really like how you and your friend express your views , very good way to let others know that muslims are not so different from them .. may allah keeps you on the right path .
ahh sis I wanted a Muslim name but then I was confused how to change it legally and then when I talked to my mum about it she got very angry and upset :/
so since its not obligatory I think I will just keep the name Heather....
@SalamSeeker I think having islamic name is lower importance >>actually the most important thing is to learn Islam and practice it...may Allah bless you sister..
@SalamSeeker Just a quick note - my sixth for tutor was a convert to islam and she asked us to call her hudda but say was legally still called something else but she was know as hudda as that was what she prefered and this could possibly be the same situation for yourself maybe ??
@CoveredForGod yes I good few people have begun calling me Laila now whilst legally my name is still Heather. I did a little bit of research on this because I did not want to appear "deceitful" by having two names but I have been informed by many places that it is perfectly alright to do what you just mentioned :D
You are beautiful, young, smart, intelligent, and Muslim. You are the best among us! I'm happy for you.
