As a catholic who lives and grew up in Birmingham you scottish/irish need to understand that were ALL christians and that theres a bigger problem... Islam. My friends who are catholic/protesant are mixture of white and black. We cannot go certain places in Birmingham due to them starting on us because were not islamic. For example someone look at Sparkhill in Birmingham and look at it. Theres literally no whites/blacks, every road sign is in islamic aswell as english. There horrible people.

As a foreigner, there is something that I dont understand. Scottish are known as people who are very proud to his origin and nation (what is ok), but on the Rangers side the Scottish flags are very rare, there are all Union Jacks. Why?

I like some Celtic fans and have very sympathetic views with the Irish and their plight for independene and total control of their island, even though there is a substantial number of people not wanting indpendence that call the island home as well.

As a foreigner, there is something that I dont understand. Scottish are known as people who are very proud to his origin and nation (what is ok), but on the Rangers side the Scottish flags are very rare, there are all Union Jacks. Why?
I remember the concert of Simple Minds, that was 30 years ago, in London. On the bass drum was a big FC Celtic shamrock badge, and the frontman said samething like : We are coming fom Scotland and we are proud we are Scottish.

The point I am making is that I wished they waved the Saltire with equal pride, a quick flag count at Parkhead will soon show that this is not the case.
It is worth mentioning that many Scots feel a close bond with the Irish regardless of what side of the religious divide they are on.

I have not looked to far into my family tree and have only got back to the 1830s. After that it gets bloody difficult. A retired friend of mine managed to travel around the world looking and got his back to the 1580s.
My point is, how can you trace back over a thousand years.

Unfortunately, nationalists on all 'sides' mess everything up. Look at the quote the Duke of Wellington made re horses and stables only he never made the quote at all(it was Daniel O'Connell's quote). The English simply did not like the idea of their greatest general to be Irish.

Well, there are several conflicting studies. No mass study of the whole population has ever been conducted. I know of a village in Cheshire where the inhabitants are pretty much decended from the people who lived there before the celts arrived. A study on another sample showed significant traces of Germanic and Fresian DNA. The Irish themselves are not exactly a pure ethnic group.
