  • I was at that crossing and i got some vids i will upload them soon

  • i remember a user on here saying once that people who people who come to devon for their hoildays or whatever have no knowledge lol that was rather funny :D.

  • did that second gate malfunction at the beginning?

  • Those gates are rough!

  • Cool vid, just ignore any haters. Paignton level crossing is a nightmare during this time of the year (summer), I was queued twice yesterday right back along Hyde Road.

  • Oooooooo yea, look at that action. YUMMY

  • @Enquiringmind777 lol yeah and you must be aswell cause u watched ofcourse to be able to comment on it.

  • @Enquiringmind777 lol like u must be even more mad since you watched a video you don't even like.

  • How long before the train arrives do the gates close the crossing?

  • about 2 mins or so

  • Thank you, ninja.

Why is the level crossing closed so long before trains arrive?

To detect a vehicle in the crossing and give enough warning to the train to slow and, if necessary, stop before the crossing?

In the USA, the crossing signals activate about 25 to 30 seconds before train arrival.

  • heres how it works

when the bariers r down from the next station but when the bariers r down the train is scencered and starts to move.

But american dont have level crossing they have rail road crossings and they are different. I know a rail road crossing that goes down then the train comes in 7 seconds.

    Hoped i helped.

  • USA - "Railroad Crossing"

    Canada -"Railway Crossing"

    UK - "Level Crossing"

    Means: Road crosses ON tracks.

In USA, signal activation begins minimum of 25 seconds before the train arrives at the crossing.

At 19 seconds gates begin to descend.

At 10 seconds gates are down = crossing closed.

My great uncle, huge 4-8-4 steam locomotive engineer in the late 1940s, hit a truck. Did not know until a station master telegraphed ahead telling next station to set semaphore to STOP.

  • them baries go down fast!

  • Not anymore,in october 2009 i visited this town(paignton) and they lower a lot slower at the level crossing

TOrbay has always been a town full of scumbags and only the ignorant won't understand this who have no knowledge of torbay. Fuck this place off so we can put all the hotels out of bussiness. THey con everybody. THats how this town lives by conning people

  • torbay road is a shitehole full of useless stores. THis area is a dump and there are too many scumbags living in this place. It doesnt have a safe feel to the area

  • lol at 1.02 i would have been like "holy *hit!!" if i was in one of them cars for a second it looks like its gonna fall on you

  • If I come on this video again and I find your

saying horrible things to this user about Paignton which is my favourate town, you'll have me to deal with.If you don't like it keep

your thoughts about Paignton to yourself.

  • he wasnt sayin horrible things to the user, he was just sayin that he must have had mayhem getting into paignton. ive been before, once. it was very busy. no disrespect to paignton, the town can be mayhem, cos its a holiday town. i love it to bits.

  • Well,When i whent to paignton i when by train but i herd that it is hard to access paognton, especially in bad traffic.

  • It's not that bad really.

Saturday's can be annoying and it's mostly if you're coming by Newton Abbot.

  • I love Torbay. Torquay, Paignton, and Brixham is a really nice area. I miss it there. I want to go back to England so bad. That country is the best.

  • Brixham is crap!

  • If you think Brixham is bad, try Los Angeles, it's hell on Earth.

But I know nobody living in Engalnd likes or appreciates England or the U.K.

  • i appreciate it, i live here.

  • Brixham or Paignton.

  • i live in macclesfield, but i appreciate my own country, juliansworld was wrong to say wat he said.

  • brixham is beautiful

  • Hey jconnor1988 lives probably in brixham

  • thank you very much.....glad u like it here.

  • Even back in the early 80's, my great uncle (now dearly departed) used to live near Dartmouth. Even then, we had to get the train to Newton Abbot when we went down for a holiday, as he refused to pick us up from Paignton! His exact words were "I wouldnt be seen dead in bloody Paint-Tin!" Ahh... those were the days!

  • the only food you will find in paignton is fish & chips. ITs pretty bad down here. THis town has been infested with scumbags since the early 90s. Children assaulted by adults and passers by to cowardly to do anything. THis is not a nice or safe area. THe uk is not a safe place

  • Wicked!

  • This video is fantastic for me becouse in Italy we have not a level cross so fast (1 minute is a dream, we wait until 4 minutes for a train) and we are fighting to obtain it. We are 1000 citizens togheter.

Can you help me publishing others video with examples as this ?

Many, many thanks if you can help me !

  • gutted everyone i live there

  • love paighton nice holiday resrot

  • Paignton is one of my favourite seaside resorts, and I really enjoyed my last holiday there in May. If people think Paignton is bad, they might wish to travel to Blackpool, a resort that really is in a bad way.

  • Also i'd like to add the devon girls are also gorgeous so that is another reason not to slag off devon.

  • yeeaaaah!Devon Rocks!(Espelshelly Paignton)

  • Im from London nobody should slag off devon it is the best part of the UK and as far as im concerned it still is.

Traditional english food avaliable, The best british beaches, tourist attractions, Nice locals both young and old (excluding the chavs) Yes it has a growing chav problem but when i was last on holiday there they didn't bother me. As long as they are not bothering you, does anyone really care about a chavs presence.

  • lol paignton rulz im going to the julie court (colin rd) 1st week o august cant wait

  • wayy i live in paignton and I LOVE IT its amazin excpeccially the new chippy squires on torbay road bloody gd chips lol. so all you london stuck up bastards get off my town and the people cause paigntion

  • what you have written dosen't make sense. couldyou explain it?

  • He likes living in Paignton, it has a good chip shop, and all tourists, or stuck up bastards should i say from London get off my town because Paignton (i'm assuming he forgot the word "rules")

  • thanks

  • ollie its aaron sam whitfords m8 elo!! paignton rocks

  • those gates bounce around alot...

  • irish rail 201s are the best

  • paignotn dear paignton. Thats oposite the oppolo cinema and next 2 Woolys

  • be there this sunday :)

  • I quite like Paignton :-S

  • @Frp398 So do i

  • These Nasty Opinions Of My Home Town Are Made By Pond Slime. If A Hungry Cannible Were To Crack Open Their Skulls He Wouldn't Have Enough To Cover A Small Water Biscuit. :)

  • I went to Paignton in about 1980 on a day trip. I stood at the same level crossing, and watched a class 50 pull ten or so MkII coaches out of the station. Wish I'd been able to video that !

  • Kindly take your opinions of Paignton and stuff them in a box! Ok it might not be the grate holiday destination it once was but it is far from the worst town in the UK. Whats really hit Paignton and other towns in Devon and Torbay, is progress. industries move out of small towns to bigger locations to increase there output etc etc. you can walk the streets and not fear getting shot, mugged, knifed every five seconds nice video, a scene i see any time i go there

  • so true my dad used to work at nortel till it moved to bristol!

  • I saw this crossing once and while someone was waiting they put an empty soft drinks cup into one of the holes in the top of the barrier. When the barrier went up, the cup was at an angle and it didn't fall out!

  • oh, i forgot to mention that most of the inhabitants have only just learnt to walk on 2 legs & that was only because they got sick & tired of banging there numb skulls on all the "dissabled cars" parked where ever they feel like dumping them.

  • There is only one thing wrong with Paignton... Its above sea level. Honestjoe101 is sooo right. this town sux.

  • The barriers came up quickly after the train had gone, there usually stay down for a couple of minutes. I was surprised at that. Really cool video. mate.

  • This is one of the most horrendous places on the face of the earth. South westerners (over the past 20 years) have generally changed. Sadly, this town has now been inundated with thuggish chav inhabitants who all seem to have come from up-north.. There's hardly any decent employment, the beaches are disgusting and the infrastructures a joke. Cutbacks and bad management have destroyed this once great town. This used to be one of the most beautiful resorts in England, not anymore.

  • Paignton is a shite hole, period.

  • shut up i live in paignton and its quite a nice place! torquay is the shit hole!

  • Arrishort555 is right.

  • Ah happy memories of my younger days, christening this crossing by flushing a train toilet at the oppotune moment. LOL.

  • may i ask why the hell som1 would waste their time taking a video of a crappy train like that, if ure gonna b train spotters spot a proper train. did u know that theres a steam railway next to there, come on get a life

  • I was actually taking video of the level crossing in action as per the title of the video. I did not care what train was crossing. Steam trains are fantastic I agree though.

  • People starting to cross before the lights have gone out. Tsk.

  • Modern Level crossings in Britain.

  • I can't beleive the P&D could be closed

  • it is real time, ive spent many a time there, the trains just pulling out of the station which is just to the right, out of shot

  • When was this taken - last summer?

Cool video - do level crossing barriers always crash and bounce like that - or is it just the way the film's come out?

    Sally

  • i live near paignton and whenever i go there and to the crossing. everytime that happens to me without fail :-(

  • Have you ever seen a virgin pendolino at that crossing Annie

  • no not yet anyway :-)

  • Well,i've seen a virgin pendolino at plymouth station wich i think is on the same line as paignton. But when i whent there{plymouth)i saw an xc class 220.But when i go in autumn time i could see one and there will be a lot of pictures and 1 or 2 videos of the level crossing

  • You won't mate, they are powered by Overhead Wires... there aren't any in Paignton :) You will get Cross Country Voyagers though... which are equally as rubbish !

  • mmmm trains, i take pictures of trains and send them to my middle aged freinds who live with their parents, mmmm locomotives

  • spent many a time here, thanks for the memory

  • check the speed of the train LOL!

  • no it is in realtime

  • Is that in fast mode? Only it seems a bit fast compared to my other video on Google UK of Stanstead Abbotts Level Crossing.
