An EMP would wipe out electric for a while but if a Nuke is fired into a highly populated area (New York) it would explode (obv) and kill but also the radiation from the nuke would make parts of New York uninhabitable.

Nukes are more powerful than EMP because the initial blast can take out a 3 mile radius of ground zero and the fallout can travel much faster, the EMP blasts aren't "deadlyer" because they only affect components that run on an eletrical source.

- Any nuclear explosion will always generate an EMP
- It is possible to generate an EMP without a nuclear explosion, however only on a fairly small scale, that includes "EMP bombs".

How can you people even say what is EMP and what isn't EMP? There's no such EMP bomb existing in real life. EMP is caused by nuclear weapons detonated in specific altitude. ht tp://en.wikipedia.or g/wiki/Electromagnetic_pulse Who said that nuke detonated in space has to destroy everything on ground? This nuke wiped out the space station, 'nuff said. EMP is caused by nukes, EMP bombs are fictional and don't exist (maybe they do, but if they do then in complete secrecy).

Considering that nukes are detonated just a few kilometers above the ground and this was detonated in space - such scenario of minimal damage to Earth is possible. Maybe it was a 5 megaton nuke? @Ricokz ok heres the thing, im trying to explain what happened here. not what the real EMP does. i mean look of the size of that thing, its not your average EMP obviously, but it looked exactly like an EMP. but your right nukes do cause electromagnetic pulses. this could have been because in the previous mission a nuclear missile was launched but in this mission the soldiers exclaimed it was an EMP. weird hu :/

Since some of you are still lacking the knowledge of nuclear weapons and what they produce, ask yourself this. Why would a Russian Nuclear Submarine in wetdock have a ICBM (That's a long range missile) solely for the purpose of disabling electronics, rather than an explosion (the nuke) that disables electronics, and vaporizes everything in an area.

Even if it's an EMP, EMP's don't make shit explode. They can completely destroy circuit boards and fuse some connections, sure, but they won't explode a space station. And shock-waves cannot physically travel through space. It's a vacuum.

Finally, someone with some sense. And there is VERY VERY VERY little atmosphere where the iss is, so it wouldn't even fucking reach there, because it can't travel through a vacuum. PLUS modern military hardware is sheilded against EMPs to prevent circuits from being fried.

Nuclear detonations release an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) when they detonate. The EMP fries circutboards and does nothing to humans. The nuclear blast can kill by either the heat, blast or the electromagnetic waves given out (not the same as emp). This was a nuclear missile not an emp missile hence you can see it. This is basically the fear any country has, that their enemies launch a nuclear missile over their country at sufficient enough altitude to disable all electronics.

@lipskamafia sorry just realized i explianed that wrong....EMP(electomegnetic pulse)(also know as high alttidude nuclear explosion)....if a nuclear warhead explodes in the upper atmossphere, gamma rays discharge electrons in the atmosphere and creates a so call Compton Efeect,,,the accelerated electrons scatter around the Earths megnetic field...then it generates an EMP(electomegnetic pulse) over a large range which is fatal to electronics....PHEW

Nuke or EMP, it depends where the Nuke hits and how it is used.
An EMP would wipe out electric for a while but if a Nuke is fired into a highly populated area (New York) it would explode (obv) and kill but also the radiation from the nuke would make parts of New York uninhabitable.

Nukes are more powerful than EMP because the initial blast can take out a 3 mile radius of ground zero and the fallout can travel much faster, the EMP blasts aren't "deadlyer" because they only affect components that run on an eletrical source.
EMP is dangerous because there are life support systems that will cease functioning, but the nukes are deadlier because they will just straight out kill you, or at least, give you severe radiation sickness.

Just to set everything straight, an EMP is caused by a nuclear weapon. Knowing this, you should also know that you can launch a nuclear bomb outside of the Earth's atmosphere for a greater affect. Price wanted to stop the Russians from killing all of his troups. Knowing his troups were outnumbered with vehicles and OpFor, he needed to do something to save his troups, so he did the logical thing by launching a Nuke into space rather than killing his troups.
