  • JUST MISSED!!! "Cry Me A River" just missed making the Billboard's Top 10 chart; it peaked at No. 11 and spent a total of 9 weeks in the Hot Top 100 in 1970... Julie London's version in 1955 reached No. 9 and Janice Harper's 1960 release topped out at No. 91. Ms. London's version was featured in the 1956 rock 'n roll movie "The Girl Can't Help It"...

  • I am 64 years young and i grew up on this great music! We had the best of the best! And i feel honored to have the privelege of having this great music experience in my youth and even now! I have all the original vinyls and in good shape too! and a turntable to listen to them! Many times i still dance to these songs, yes even at my age loool! Ill always love the 60s and 70s! Peace and love folks!

  • @babyRoses7 You got that Right !!!!

  • @babyRoses7 i saw him in concert in '70, and leon russel too. and that looks like leon on piano. .... i bought the leon russel and the shelter people l.p. and it came with a small paper record in it of a j.j. cale song. and it had a funny black kid introducing it and said: " jack and jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water. jack fell down and broke his j.j. cale record...... "

  • @m1kewithaone Oh, that IS definitely Leon Russell, The Master of Time and Space on keys.

  • @babyRoses7 That makes two of us. Although I'm only 51 (compared to your 64) I was playing drums in 1965 and in my first band by age 8. I saw my first concert in 1970 (Led Zeppelin) with my older brother and two of his friends. This is the greatest era in rock music history.

  • @babyRoses7 That is so cool! Me too! Just can hardly get enough of the energy.

  • @babyRoses7 I just wrote someone and practically quoted you . . . before I read your comment.

  • @babyRoses7 Trolling for inappropriate posts !

  • @babyRoses7 Doesn't get any better ,,,,

  • Comment removed

  • @babyRoses7 NO GRANDPA SAYS LOOL...LIER!!....LOOL

  • @babyRoses7

    Me too!

  • @babyRoses7 Is the guy on the keyboard the same as the keyboardist in the later videos?

  • @babyRoses7

    Yes!!

  • @babyRoses7 Tell it, Roses! We were blessed with abundance. New peace movement = Ron Paul 2012

  • Man what a great old tune. Mr. Cocker and Mr. Russell kicked 9 kinds of ass. And i'm really diggin Pamela Polland in this video. Man she was cuter'n hell back then.

  • Wow---- This is good, really, really good!!!

  • @ROBBEAUDOIN66 Kinda surprises you younger folks, doesn't it? Yeah, we really knew how to ROCK!!!!!!

  • @judecreek2 This sure is a fine song.

I never really listened to Joe Cocker until the past weekend---wow the man can belt out a tune!

  • Leon counting back in . . . un fucking real !!!

  • Rita Coolidge was indeed a backup singer. She also did a solo song, and was a real show stopper. I remember it well, as I was there.. one of the all time great tours..

  • @timbuckleyphoto Rita sang "Superstar" a song that was written by Leon Russell and Bonnie Bramlett. It was about the shabby way Eric Clapton treated his female fans.

  • Love this man, great music...Thank you

  • Epic!

  • Fan since Woodstock. He and Leon are my favorites.

  • meraviglioso vecchio leone

  • THE GREAT JOE COCKER W/ LEGENDARY LEON RUSSEL ,CHRIS STAINTON, CARL RADLE ,RITA COOLIDGE,CLAUDIA LINNEAR, PAM POLLARD ,JIM KELTNER AMONG OTHER LEGENDARY MUSCIANS, JUST ASK @ JUDECREEK2,SHE SAW THE OPENING ACT OF MAD DOGS AND ENGLISHMEN IN DETROIT IN 1970!!

  • @stalkingwolf1954 i especially gotta like rita coolidge, since we both went to fsu. seriously, she is an amazing singer, and i am always a little shocked that she doesn't get the attention she deserves.

  • @tranurse

Is Rita Coolodge one of the excellent Hippie back-up singers on this? Never knew. Thanks for this little tid bit of music trivia I can add to my wealth of useless music triva knowledge!!!

  • find leon playing roll over beethoven in 68. you'll die! from pure bliss and surprise!

  • Boobs @2:13 LOL

  • ,,great acting at 1:04.. luv it..

  • what happened to performers like this?!

  • @Mcmenamy10 they got co-oped by corporate america.

  • Leon Ruseel wearing his top hat, way before Slash wore his

  • He got cock even in his name...nuff said!

  • The best.

  • two of the backing singers were Rita Coolidge and Claudia Lennear - Rita Coolidge later married Kris Kristofferson

  • Before Leon got together with Elton John, he was playing small venues and clubs. There were a lot of us following him. I've been lucky enough to be right next to him while he was playing and singing. Doubt he'll go back to that again, though.

  • Leon Russel ...wearing the original Al Jolson 'The Jazz Singer" top hat

  • what's the name of the dude on the piano wearing the top hat?

  • 77 people dislike this? Hard to believe these people can vote.

  • @coyotesish They were just too stupid to hit the right button!!! They meant "like"!!

  • OMG this is my dads fave song love this

  • too good.....insane

  • What an amazing time in the evolution of music. An astonishing capture of what happened during that era. I am amazed at the performance. Nothing held back. Everyone was in the same space. Sadly, this can never happen today. All you youngsters, learn from the past. A treasure to be sure!!!

  • This is from the era when you could actually go see all the artist of the time and not have to take out a bank loan to do it!!! I saw sooo ,many concerts during the sixties and seventies, and I don't think I ever paid over $20.00 for a ticket and $20.00 was considered pricey.

BTW Hippies make good back-up singers! he he

  • @TheMustangsally75 Was just thinking about the time George Harrison brought his Dark Horse tour thru Tulsa, Oklahoma. Leon Russell made a surprise appearance. Billy Preston and Ravi Shankar were also part of the amazing show. I still have my ticket. It was $12 - priceless!!!

  • quelle époque!!Grand Monsieur !

  • GREAT!! GREATER !!!! and GREATEST !!!

...AND THAT ONE FEMALE BACK UP SINGER ON THE LEFT KEPT EXCELLANT TIME W/ HER JINGLE JANGLE.......!

    SUPERD PERFORMANCE BY BOTH..!

  • Leon and Cocker !

  • he was great until he sold out.

  • this is an awsome show

  • My best friend lived in Boston during this tour. He and some other guys went to the Filmore to see this concert w/o tickets. I stayed behind thinking there is no way they would ever find tix. They not only got in but were in the front row that night. Talk about regrets in your live.

  • @TheNoteCollector My brother took me to this show in Detroit because our parents told him he had to or he couldn't go. I was 14, and I didn't even really want to go, but that night I fell under Leon's spell and became a life long fan.

  • @judecreek2 A LEON LIFFER : ) MY BROTHER

  • they all look high as fug

  • fckin awsome

  • One of the greatest live rock performances from one of the most intense performers of all time! Why does the stupid camera man film the backup singers half of the video?? Jeeez!

  • @MissCreee1 Simply because those girls/guys are part of the what makes this video

so appealing. Oh, the inocense of it all!!

One thing we should all learn , you really can't mix politics with art - to reason why today's failures are caused by yesterdays generation, can't we all just appreciate the performance?

  • I'm surprised he hasn't blown out his vocal cords

  • I actually rented a DVD of it from Netflix that had this included...

  • @RockNBurner What is the name of the DVD? thks Scampi99

  • @scampi99 It was called Mad Dogs N Englishmen, but Netflix was the only place I've found it...

  • @RockNBurner Yea, tell us name of that DVD? Please?

  • joe cocker looks like hes pissing out kidney stones the size of golfballs when ever he sings

  • Comment removed

  • the best ever

  • another club 27 member ... he just missed it to die ...

  • Where the hell was I when this was going on?To miss this is a crime.

  • Leon looks SO mellow ;-) yet he is absolutely kicking butt on the piano!

  • lo máximo!!!

  • I saw Leon perform last night. Great show... great musician.

  • Fantastic.! Joe Cocker providing enough energy to power a small town for a week - Leon Russell, what a showman, what professionals all, stoned or not., has anyone identified the backing singers yet?.......

  • @oxfordbow if you search on wikipedia for mad dogs and englishmen you can find the whole crew list, pretty amazing the talent and the history from this one tour. rock on and on....

  • @porkchop1121 : yes I will thanks, yes, talent and history,

its exhausting just watching/listening. thanks for your reply

and thank you scampi99 for this wonderful slice of rock history

  • F A N T A S T I C !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 0:52 crazy eyes! uhahuauhahuuha

  • kid rock @0:01 =]:-{

  • Bro Leon creates the musical environ which allows Joe to remove his skin, merge his mechanical, physical, and biochemical possessions with the sounds being released from his Soul (Psyche). This is not coincidence, rather a synchronic event which compels the audience (that includes us) to experience the rarest & most beautiful form of Art.

  • @jkws

or in other words everyone-the band and audiance were really stoned on drugs.

  • That's some energy there boy. You can just feel the joy. Can you imagine Joe on IDOL? They'd call security in their sterile auto-tune world.

  • The coolest song

  • 2:10 no bra!!!!

  • I can still remember almost all the lyrics to all the songs by heart. One of my most played albums way back in the early 70's. Seeing this film over and over was the closest I could ever get to being at a real rock concert. Wow did Joe and Leon rock together! This is the real deal.

  • @rokedetbamidbar

Joe and Bro Leon ARE still rock'n SO why dont they do something TOGETHER?

  • I saw the movie I reckon 10 times at school on reel to reel...thats how old I am.....didnt appreciate then....but sure do now...Joe at his best.

  • Leon Russel looks stoned out of his mind.

  • can you imagine the parties on this tour??????? Epic....

  • what a great singer in the 70's but what a poor singer in the eighties and ninties. sorry folks but he should have quit about 1975

  • @MrTupelo64 Couldn't disagree more. Joe still has it and got better with age.

  • 1.26

  • Do you think the cameraman knew what he was doing at 2:11 *L*

  • @laurenmcintyre I think the cameraman knew he was witnessing an icon and may have been over-friggin-whelmed with the performance

  • F ing Legend....!!!

  • Joe,L:eon, and Steven Tyler all three have the strongest "raspy voices" yet later in their careers mellow out into incredible melodic voices..am I the only one that thinks that? I just wonder how beautiful Janis's voice would be today(sigh).

  • Is it only me or does anyone else take note that the 'rasopy rockers' like joe,Steven tyler and even Leon mature into the greatest mellow voices later in their careeers?

  • Cocker... goddamn... Forever !

  • Joe Cocker & Leon Russell....speechless!

  • @catcando75 Yep that sums up my feelings exactly ! God only knows why they didn't put this on the dvd.. Just ordered 2 more copies from Amazon in case my current one gets scratched :) Don't understand how anyone with ears could dislike this - I think it's one of the most exciting live performances captured on film

  • 0:22

  • Wow, after watching this vid, I need a sedative...awesome.

  • LOL Leon at begining arogantly stroking his tache!!!

  • @Django5198 Yeah, 'cos he knows he's about to blow the roof off with his piano. And then he did.

  • What AMAZING video!!!!

  • @paddlehard2 The whole movie is great. Most of it is available here on the 'tube.

  • @kramerdc9 get bent! Grow up, get a life, Aplogize to your mother for being an asshole, and tell your father you WILL become something constructive to society!

Now, to the REAL Joe Cocker fans out there, WOW,eh? What a treat to find this piece of history. Brings back a lot of great memories from my days during the 70's. OH YEAH! Thanks for posting this. scampi99, you have made a great many people happy. 8-)

  • wow the memories -70's got me 2 Joe but he is here 4 use all with his great sound

  • Pamela Polland has a big following on the Web....do a search of her name and check out her own web site.

  • Hey Thanks so much for the info. She was really belting it out in this vid. Great voice

  • anyone know the name of the girl singer making the face at 1:06? What a cutie!

  • @SxTMinMan Her name is Pamela Polland. She's still making music in her home state of Hawaii.
