  • Russians == great engineers, not so great cinematographers.

  • Usa.. HAHAHA.. that is funny for so many reasons.. mostly because the germans designed built and ran your rocket program to get you there..remember that nazi scientist who built the V1 and V2?

Russia had already been around the moon so by definition they were there first. your Germans put you on the surface.. Germany wins. The soviets were going around the moon taking pictures before you got off the ground

  • Energia should still be flying!

  • In response to some of the comments on here, one has to remember that both sides did amazing things. Saturn V and the F1 engine, the Americans got that right, shame they binned the blueprints! Russia certainly got it right with Soyuz - Initially the R7 ICBM then Vostock, Voshkhod, Soyuz, Soyuz 2. If it ain't broke why fix it? Buran certainly had a lot going for it, if R&D had continued, I guess it would have become excellent heavy booster.

  • Between the two the Buran system was Way better than our shuttle system too bad the union fell before Buran went operational...

  • MORE COWBELL !!!

  • They almost became masters of space. Now if the Russians could have just figured out how to build a hanger.

  • American space shuttle Copycat....."

    "-_-

  • @SixtySky987 долбоёб чтоль?

  • But again, I'm not saying this to piss people off, I am just clearing up the truth from all the "pride" comments. They tried to make it look different, but it failed to perform as well as the American design, so they modeled it after the American shuttle on the outside. The remaining differences were made because it was the only way they could get it to fly. The jet engines on it were to help with landing, but deemed too difficult to maneuver during landing, so they weren't used.

  • @phattieg Buran's jet engines were installed only to allow it to conduct fly-around landing tests. The jet engines were not intended to be used in actual flight into space. Atmospheric stresses during launch would have ripped them off the Buran. Re-entry would have burned them off, too. Moreover, those jet engines were very heavy. Their fuel would have added even more weight. The engines and their fuel would have used up all the cargo weight allowance, leaving Buran unable to carry any payload.

  • I'm not saying this to piss off anyone, but the Buran did not have anywhere near the technology used on the American space shuttle. When the first (and only) launch took place, there was no life support system, and no display panels, it wasn't completed. They also did not know how to make an engine running on cryogenic fuel reusable, and they had absolutely no experience with large solid rocket boosters, which is why they designed it the way they did. It was not intentional, but necessary.

  • @phattieg All of what you say is true, but the Buran could be remotely controlled from orbit and land on a runway (something USA could not do untill the X-37B mission last year). The Buran also had no main engines, all of the engines needed were on Energia, which meant that Energia could be used to launch many other things without having to have a Buran on. The mission did not need life support or display panels as it was an early unmanned test flight. They both have their own advantages :)

  • @nickyp28 Nicky, I knew all of what you said. I was not disputing it's advantages. Actually, not many people know this, but the SRB's (solid rocket boosters) of the USA's space shuttle have been used to launch things without the shuttle. The thing is, no matter how good the Buran was, it only got to space once, and for some reason was put into a hanger and never used again. It's also possible the craft sucked horribly, and instead of being embarrassed, they just gave up on it.

  • anyone in here knows how to delete a stupid coment, who in the heck is Anne Marie?

  • no matter where you are Anne Marie, I'll love you forever I know some day I will find you, if you give your number I'll call, and when you call me I'll be there, truly yours bye.

  • The idiocy of most comments is astounding as usual.....

  • @chiriuy agreed ;)

  • @chiriuy Introduce blind patriotism to any situation, and reason is abandoned.

  • @Maxables I could say the same about the USA, and its so called "war on terrorism" couldn't you catch one raghead using 50000 troops or are your soldiers too dumb to find him on a pile of sand niggers?

  • @harris3693 I meant my comment to include the United States. Blind, thoughtless patriotism is BAD. No matter what country you're patriotic for.

  • @harris3693 As for the United States' war on terror, I think it's kind of bullshit too. We aren't there to conquer, it seems like we're only there to disrupt. And frankly, I don't agree with that. As for American soldiers, I'd say they're about as smart as the soldiers of any other army. I'm not going to pretend the average soldier is a college grad. That being said, I still feel an obligation to support them, as they are giving their lives to protect my personal freedoms

  • @harris3693 Also, the fact that you used the terms 'raghead' and 'sand nigger' lead me to believe you don't really know what you're talking about, and that you're just spewing hate on to a page. Why would you do that?

  • The light of communism will shine even in the darkest depths of the universe!

  • @galacticempire19bby

    do want, DO WANT

  • Do they still use Buran? I think they stopped using it.

  • ned987,

Do they still use Buran? I think they stopped using it.

yes that is good for NO more buran,,,

i dont want ussr russia join america space shuttle

  • @bestamerica

No, Buran was used only once - in fully automated launch and landing. The working prototype was destroyed by crushed garage roof in ~ 2004. :(

    We have idiots in Parliament.

PS: It's America who joined building space stations and will use Russia rockets/soyuz to delive astonauts/cargo into orbit in nearest future.

  • zebooka,

ussr russia buran did fly ONCE,,,

buran is still poor design and low technology,,,

american space shuttle is still the top leader, winner, and the best than cheap buran,,,

american space shuttle is the real people in the space shuttle,,,

ussr russia use a dummy doll, radio control, and no learning at all,,,

i am very interesting american space shuttle than buran,,,

    buran is a big LOSER,,,

  • @zebooka but the first space station was the MIR

  • @harris3693 No it wasn't, Salyut was.

  • @harris3693 wrong the first space station was the Salyut 1 launched in 1971 while the USA was on the moon

  • stupid russians copied western design

  • ukrainesuperpower87,

    stupid russians copied western design

i love america space shuttle is the best plane in the world,,,

i dont like ussr russia buran,,,

ussr russia is a very cheap space buran shuttle,,,

ussr russia is always copy steal from america space shuttle

  • @ukrainesuperpower87

Actually, the Buran launcher, the Energia, is far superior to the US External Tank and SRB combo. In fact, with modification, the Buran system can be fully reusable, unlike Shuttle. The Russians just didn't have the money to test the possibilities. Pity. I'd have liked to see a few Burans going up. Maybe the ISS would turn out better than it has.

  • @smart12222 this is mostly due to the fact that buran did not have any reusable engines onboard the spaceplane as space shuttle does, and i agree with you that it would have been a better alternative to the shutle

  • @smart12222 That is why people should support Communists as they were the ones who made it!! Plus, the USSR had alot of anti-porpoganda being bashed on it as the USA is too weak to take its own mistakes!!!

  • @smart12222 Money, money, money. It always seems to be a problem.

  • @smart12222 Yeah, once again something is better and far superior than what the Americans did. YADA YADA YADA. Once again tho, these "Better" systems never make it. The American system did.

  • @dhbiza And blew up with spectacular regularity. Progress 745 launches, 744 successful.

Shuttle 135 launches, 2 failures. that is one every 67.5 flights. the maths do not lie.

Korelov was a genius. I am not Russian or from the U.S. but it is clearly evident that simplicity rules when it comes to space. Let's not get into the discussion of space stations.

  • @babybearkill Americans on the moon:12 Everybody else: 0 !!! USA wins!!!!

  • @smart12222 god fuck man half the people in your country are starving and you think your tech is better then ours. you wish...

  • I don't see how Russia is 'stupid' if they were able to get their hands on the design of the Space Shuttle and 'copy' it to make their own?

The only stupid ones were the guys in charge of security!

  • @ukrainesuperpower87

    >ukrainesuperpower87

    >ukraine

    >superpower

    LOLOLOLOLOLLLLLLLLLLLLll not sure if troll

  • oh yeah this video kinda sucked for having a 5 star rating, maybe just cause im an ignorant american cowboy.

  • Yup...20-y years ago.

  • They spend billions on this then cancelled it after one launch. The soviets' were even more inconsequential than the americans when it comes to managing a space program:(

  • NASA is not as inconsequential as you think. Take a step back and look at the era. The Soviet's spent billions on a space shuttle and they cant even feed their own people. Gotta love communism and what it has done for the people of that country.

Running any kind of space program is uber expensive. I would hate to have seen Boran make it and the catastrophes that would have followed.

The shuttle is not a perfect system and thats one of the main reasons NASA is retiring the fleet in 2010.

  • Agree!

  • We are only the humans...we are bordered for politicians not for scientiest or average people..

  • Inconsequential is ready to launch the 120th US manned space shuttle mission on Oct. 23 2007. Discovery flies again!

  • Agree with malu5531.

  • No, this is the real thing. They launched buran once with no humans on a automated mission with a automated landing. The russian space agency have always been good at making automated manouvers. In fact NASA has yet to catch up RSA on automated dockings.

  • um automated launching and docking are 2 different things.... Dunno how well NASA has tech for auto docking.. however for automated landing, taking off and flight maneuvers they have some of the best tech.

  • And what is the MIR-PEACE station...

  • @bestamerica MIR it is an orbiting station that USA and could not construct without the foreign help.

  • hi kam,

i am not interesting ussr russia SMALL mir,,,

i like america BIG spacehome as SST than cheap mir

  • @bestamerica American only on half... And on half Russian)))

  • hi kam,

    yes FULL america,,,

    zero ussr russia,,,

NO ussr russia allowed at all

  • @bestamerica There is no FULL American, it is the fact))

And what а fuck the USSR? 20 years as are not present it))
