The American Dream is not about social justice, equal poverty for all with no incentive nor reward to succeed. The American Dream is about the free market. It rewards those who make it with both money and feelings of accomplishment.
.
The American Dream is not a welfare state for all. It challenges all to become better to get the things they truly want in life. There will always be poor. Why should we abolish the middle class for the elitist desire to redefine the American Dream?
Well nekedemus,it looks like you commented in anger...but, unfortunately I agree with you & I am a born and raised American. What on earth have we allowed and how could we have been so blind, passive and in denial?
I wasn't born in the US but came here when I was 5. I have benefitted greatly from coming to America. I would not be who I am today if I had stayed in the Azores. However, you are right. I believe in America as an idea. The country set up by the Founding Fathers. Today, it is not what they intended. I always say that if the Founding Fathers were alive today they would start another revolution. What's sad is that most Americans have no real clue of history and the constitution.
As always Phil Donahue cuts thru the soft rhetoric and hammers out the cold hard reality.
Thanks to Bill Moyers for his continued fantastic journalistic service to America - and for adding features like this that start spotlighting what American citizens have to come to terms with... that we get the country we want. if we want something better, then more citizens have to feel a sense of stake in the future, and act responsibly to shepherd those stakes despite the abuse of 2-party politics.

That's correct -- we have had technical problems with this video, and needed to re-upload it several times.
