Great job on this piece! I happened to catch the world premiere opening night (Jan 1995)with Chris Lamb and the NY Phil, Leonard Slatkin conducting. Awesome concerto.
ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! I absolutely love this piece. I am studying viola at Eastern Music Festival this summer, and I just had the privilege of hearing Evelyn Glennie perform this with the Faculty orchestra there. It's great to hear two different interpretations of this wonderful piece. I especially love the almglocken feature in the second movement; there's a pitched percussion instrument you don't see every day! Thank you very much for posting!
Joseph Schwantner's percussion concerto is the most beautiful, in my opinion. Your use of the shekere adds a tremendous effect. Your cadenza is astonishing and musical. I do have one question though. When does the composer call for the Javanese gongs that can be seen at 1:32?
awsome! congrats!

How much of this is written and how much is improvisation?

All written except for the solo cadenza near the end.

I. LOVE. SCHWANTNER.
My school's Wind Ensemble played this a couple of years ago. Is the original for orchestra or winds?

I stuck a tomtom stand into the tom holder on the top of the bassdrum.

Hi Peter,
Great cadenza at the end. Top! I have one question, how did you mount the bass drum on station 1. Best wishes Tim Palmer, Maraca2 Percussion Duo
