When the UAC pops up and asks me if i want the program to donwload files to the computer, I click "yes", then the screen dims and stays that way for a few minutes, then it takes me back to the beginning, solutions?
does any1 know how I change from a standard user to the admin user? i'm the only user on this computer my son or some1 changed something now i can't upload anything to my computer. i have windows basic home edition if thats helpful its always asking to enter my password but its giving me a box to enter a password. raiderfan_71@hotmail.com
I can understand the frustrations regarding the prompts, but here are some things to SERIOUSLY consider before you disable User Account Control:
1. Disabling UAC is losing more than just Yes/No Continue/Cancel prompts. Registry protection, and other background security enhancements are enabled with it. Why do you want to cut your security back down to an XP level and automatically give applications the green light to potentially ruin your OS?
2. UAC is in Windows 7 and is essentially the same.
Bill Gates I will fucking shoot u in the balls, and I will knife ur little pubes off, then I will have my dog suck ur left nut, then he'll bite it and then you'll have no balls, you'll lose all of ur fame, then you'll be like Justin Bieber,
OMFG... So you spent £70 to buy Windows Vista, because it was a lot more Secure than Windows XP... Then you Disabled Vista's Security, so that it is now just as Secure as Windows XP... LOL Fuckin' priceless! :D
UAC is a very stupid security "feature" it shouldn't warn you about every little thing, and if you're worried about viruses then that's why you get REAL security software.
Norton antivirus scans our computer to.i comes with the whole packgage.and next time learn to use "," and "." or it will be rly hard to understand you like this time
personally, the UAC didn't bother me that much. It also helped when I accidentally launched a program on my computer, so I didn't have to wait through the load to exit the program. The UAC in Windows 7 is less intrusive, though.
in Windows 7 it's just a few clicks away. but it's not really that safe to just turn it off completely, what I recommend is just turning the notifications down a bit
I was one of the unfortunate suckers that bought it when I built my new PC from 2008 :P So yes .. I've used it & it sucks. The only cool thing that I really liked though was the voice command feature. but with all of vistas flaws it quickly took the shine right off that turd.
I'm pretty sure that instead of doing all of that it would be easier to click on the start button then clicking on your user display picture at the top sending you straight to account options such as UAC settings. And no microsoft doesn't hide it and it may be annoying but the UAC exists for a reason. Obviously Microsoft's way of handling permissions isn't the most convenient processes but it does work.
I have 7 computers and they all work, on the one in the basement i actually still use windows 2000 professional, it still works! actually, i still have a fossil, a working packard bell computer that i bought new many years ago, it is running windows 3.1, and has a 420 mb hard drive and 8 megs of Ram! this computer was top of the line when i purchased it and i paid over $1100 for it back then.anyone remember prodidgy internet and those 56k dial up modems? take me back, take me back!
it protects the user so you dont screw up, so you actually look at the application control name and then say yes or no, not disable it because are going to have a bigger chance of getting bit by a virus
UAC is User Account Control. It is a feature in Windows Vista/7 That requires you to click yes whenever a program tries to change something on your computer.
Users... "We want security" then Microsoft complies, gives it to you, BAM "we can't handle it, turn it off".
I'll leave my UAC on. And I'll be tuning Win7 to have as many UAC prompts as Vista or more. I see UAC more in one day at work (via customer machines because I tell them to run command prompt as an admin) than I do in a month at home.
I don't really remember users saying "we want security intrusive to the user experience." I'm pretty sure it goes without saying users wanted MS to design better security without sacrificing the user experience.
No I'm not joking. I found vista very useful. It worked like a charm (SP1). I have no clue why people keep bashing Vista for problems. I ran into no problems. Not even a BSOD.
Maybe, just maybe, I know how to work a damn computer.
I did work on Vista, all my drivers worked, none had issues, all my programs worked.
And I can play my lovely DX10 Games on vista.
Vista worked, and its purely on opinions. I bet half of you didn't even try Vista SP1. Personally, I would prefer Vista over XP.
Vista was good once SP1 came out no doubts, Windows 7 is better in every way imo though.. Im still using XP on this comp because it's about 4 years old now and XP runs like a charm on it :)
I'm not a fanboy, I'm just a poweruser like just like every body else found some problems with windows vista. I'm not saying by that vista sucks completly there is some useful stuff in there but in general it sucks!
But what if you are smart enough to be safe without needing UAC and don't need a stupid program telling you that you are installing something new? Therein lies the reason for disabling it.
yea and the next time you start your computer, Vista will inform you every five minutes that you have disabled UAC using a ballon tip and says your computer is in danger.
Windows 7 still has UAC. Microsoft didn't tweak the UAC so it prompted you less either.
Thanks to Vista, 7 has pretty much full compatibility with every major program on the market, even smaller programs that were at least smart enough to add Vista compatibility to their programs.
The reason 7 is the way it is is because Vista existed. If Vista had never been release, 7 would have the same amount of UAC prompts Vista had (no, Vista has barely any prompts these days).
A firewall can be disabled from the outside, it's no difficult feat, especially since the average user normally has their firewall set for "allow all".
I bet you have no idea how the UAC functions, do you?
Disabling UAC seems a bit silly to me, you rarely see it after the first week or so when your apps are all installed. Turning it off is like fitting your home with a new security system, and then leaving the front door wide open.
mind explaining how someone would manually delete something from my computer? And i know what im doing so i'm not worried about me.. And whats the point of having a firewall if you set it to "allow all"?
I had to turn my volume up a lot to hear this video.

Disabling the UAC in Vista is a really bad idea, it gives you an OS which is the worst of both worlds - large, slow, bloated, and as insecure as XP. With UAC turned on, at least you have a secure OS.

Turning UAC off puts you in the same position, Win 7 has more levels of control for UAC, but turning it completely off is still a really bad idea.
that why i dont turn it off. i know better after pc attack from out side my pc. that UAC save my pc from hacker. after that day. i start using McAfee SiteAdvisor and WOT. i know UAC drive me crazy, but it have been a life saver.
UAC isn't shit. It has it's purpose, however annoying it may be. For example, I enable it on my parents laptop. Where as I know what I'm installing they will not, so in those situations UAC has it's uses. It's also not as annoying is people make it out to be, so what if an alert comes up, people are suddenly too lazy to click a button.
That is one INSANE resolution.

rudewolf89 2 years ago
Your "protection" doesn't stop you from you or someone else manually deleting something that shouldn't have.
UAC was designed to prevent HUMAN error, not viruses.
iOniV2 2 years ago
EXACTLY!
PrKid718 2 years ago
mind explaining how someone would manually delete something from my computer? And i know what im doing so i'm not worried about me.. And whats the point of having a firewall if you set it to "allow all"?
rudewolf89 2 years ago
Easy:
Step 1. Walk up to computer
Step 2. Sit down at computer
Step 3. Begin using computer
Step 4. Oops, I deleted something! Was that important?
Lots of people set their firewall to "allow all", because the firewall will then PROMPT THEM LESS.
Oh, I'm seeing a repeat here. What do UAC and firewalls have in common when it comes to complaints?
iOniV2 2 years ago
A little late, maybe? :)
igonnagetfsx 2 years ago
So, I heard that you think it's too hard to simply click a prompt?
Seriously, are people that effing lazy that they'll complain about some silly prompt? I used Vista for 3 years and I barely got prompted myself.
Windows and Linux users are on the same boat when it comes to things prompting users.
OS X users just seem to genuinely be lazy, it seems.
Snow Leopard's a cool guy, guest accounts delete everything and doesn't afraid of anything.
iOniV2 2 years ago
OS X users lazy? On OS X its more effort, you need to type your password in as well for admin functions, on vista you just click "Allow".

Why exactly is it bad?
OkashaSH5 2 years ago
NO UAC is just a piece of shit and it asks you if you want to create a new folder or not twice

UAC isn't shit. It has it's purpose, however annoying it may be. For example, I enable it on my parents laptop. Where as I know what I'm installing they will not, so in those situations UAC has it's uses. It's also not as annoying is people make it out to be, so what if an alert comes up, people are suddenly too lazy to click a button.

this is pathetic. If you don't know how to disable UAC go die.
