  • Hi, so I'm going to cosplay the original black mage from FF and for the head, his head is like all black with yellow eyes. So I found these stretchy shorts in black which I can see through. But how can I like form it to my face? Should I use a foam head for reference or something?

  • @PTuinman It's probably more difficult to convert shorts into a face mask than just sewing up some black cloth. Look into how ski masks are patterned. If anything, just pin the excess fabric around your head so it's nice and tight, then sew it up.

  • @AntiAiChan Thanks for the advice, I seperated the two legs so that I could put my head through it. I will see if it works out. The problem is that I can't see a lot when I have is on, so I might have to do it on a foam head so I can see what I'm doing :P

  • what if you were doing a character with multi-colored eyes? like for a female Prussia (from Hetalia) she has lilac on top then it fades to blue on the bottom, but the male Prussia has red eyes. what would be the best for eye color then?

  • @Rcpengy123 Well those are two different costumes. If you're doing the male version get red eyes; if you're doing the female version get blue or purple. Honestly though, I never get contacts. I don't think it really matters.

  • @AntiAiChan ok, thanks!

  • can u give some basic tips on how to cosplay for someone that never cosplayed once and that are gong to cosplay with some friends on theyer first day at jayfex? cuz i never cosplayed before and this is my first one

  • @Izumiorra I just did...

  • Would Rin Kagamine be a good beginner cosplay?

  • can you make your own charecter? jus a q.... thanx! :)

  • @piannoplayerr You can make anyone or anything; there are no rules to who you can and can't dress up as.

  • Roy Mustang, what boot?? I have looked and looked, but I don't know which ones are the real ones like look good with the state alchemist outfit.

  • Hey! Um...My parents know that I like Anime and stuff, But I feel like if I ran out in a neon wig, saying I'm going to a convention, they would freak out. Plus, being bad at sewing, altering, and coloring, I feel like I would get a lot of "Why do you need a neon blue wig? And what's a vocaloid?" So...Um, how would I get started? Please help me out.

  • I wrote a tl;dr reply so I hope it answers your question. Just copy, paste and take out the spaces: antiaichan . tumblr . com /post/15527596500/talking-to-your-parents-about-cosplay

  • @AntiAiChan Thank you so very much!

  • What material should I use for a normal schoolgirl outfit?

  • i need some advice for cosplaying as china from hetalia

  • @Nanoha01HEI I always wear shorts under my skirts.

  • @thecowpooes It sounds like you want to wear tights and Converse when Miku wears thigh-highs. Once again, you should wear what the character is supposed to wear, not make things up.

  • thanks so much this video helped me a lot! And with the posing i agree 100% because at a recent con i wanted to take a picture of a character i really liked and i thought they looked good but all they did was stand there and smile, also can i wear short shorts under the skirt in my outfit? cause the skirt is short

  • @RamenAlchemistPro Coolness! What con are you going to in April?

  • im trying to make a hatsune miku wig,and i dont know how to make a wig.also,i dont really have any money....have any tipz?

  • @ikutolover909 Most people just buy a wig, not make one. Ebay is probably your best bet.

  • What if your'e doing someone like Hatsune Miku, Could you get a pair of black converse-pants with blue laces?

  • @thecowpooes It doesn't matter who the character is, if that's what they wear, that's what they wear. If you're doing a version on Miku with pants and Converse than wear pants and Converse.

  • @AntiAiChan I meant something like tights, but with converse feet and laces, Instead of thigh-high boots.

  • @thecowpooes My comment still stands. If you're doing a version on Miku with tights and Converse, wear tights and Converse. If the version requires thigh-high boots, wear thigh-high boots.

  • @AntiAiChan I know, But you don't understand what I'm commenting about.

  • Since I'm a beginner, I am going to cosplay L from Death Note, since he's super easy to do :P

  • @bratztvgirl Actually, he's not. There are so many terrible L cosplayers because the put no effort into the costume.

  • @AntiAiChan I know, I've seen so many L fails. If I do a cosplay of him, I'd work extra hard on it, from the clothes, to the make up and the hair.

  • Im quite lucky as i am only 4 inches smaller than Alois...Thank god for awesome boots!

  • What should I do for poses if I don't have a full length mirror and my room can't fit one?

  • @twilight97kitsune Stand on a chair in your bathroom, use the reflection on the TV or window, barrow someone's mirror.

  • if you don't mind id like to get your opinion on what fabric i should use for namine from kingdom hearts its gonna be my first cosplay i actually will make.

  • @majesticflame12 If you're a beginner than simple cotton will work.

  • I have a question for cosplaying as Alois Trancy from Black Butler... I'm a gilr, but I have my bangs strait at the moment. could I grow out my bangs and then part them like his? Casue I really don't feel like getting a wig...

  • @99WolfShadow You can, there's not rule against using your own hair; but in general, a wig usually looks better.

  • @AntiAiChan Awesome! thankms so much. It's not for a while so I guess I have plenty of time to decide.

  • will most conventions have a registration table at the con or do u have to pre register on the website

  • @ChibiSweetzXD All cons will have registration on sight.

  • @AntiAiChan Thanx so much! ~Alois Trancy

  • ...I went to the party store for my first wig...

    Are you a wizard?

  • @ChelseyGetsScared If only!

  • Hi! Can you do a video (or tutorial *coughcough*) for crossplaying male characters? I don't consider myself a very feminine looking person, but I can never get crossplays right. c:

  • @Psychadellichick I could but I still think I look girly so I'm not the best person to ask for makeup advice. I've seen a bunch of videos on here for things like that, maybe that will help?

  • @AntiAiChan Alright. Thanks for replying!~

  • hi, ive been experimenting with yoko littner from tengen toppen gurren lagann and im not sure what to do abt the makeup. any help or advice is welcome as its my first time cosplaying!

  • I'm cosplaying as Len (From Vocaloid) next year and I have NO idea how I'm supposed to pose... (since he's a vocaloid- not really an anime or manga I find it kinda' hard to decide how he'll pose) do you have any suggestions?

  • @SkyHowlKoda Try looking at other people who have cosplayed him and taking a few of their ideas or modify them.

  • If you buy a cosplay online and it is too small, how would you go about enlarging it?

  • @GRRR4WR Enlarging something is very difficult and near impossible unless you can find the same fabric and don't mind having a few extra seams. If you bought the costume because you are unable to sew yourself, your best bet it to take it to a tailor. If you have yet to buy the outfit and are concerned it may be too small, I would up your measurements by an inch or two and you can take it in when you receive it.

  • @AntiAiChan Thank you, i was just asking for future reference.

  • can u buy a cosplay online then alter it if its too big or smal or has other problems?

  • @chichiri211 Well yeah, when you buy something it belongs to you. You can do whatever you want with it.

  • im about five foot and a girl...would you think cosplaying sora frm Kh be ok? since he is about 5-4 or 5-5

  • @DustinEdwardDorsey lol No one cares what color your eyes are, especially when it comes to traditional colors. It's cool to have the right color but no one cares. Heck, I can't even wear contacts!

  • I am going as the character L (Ryuzaki) from Death Note, I need alittle help with the crossdressing subject because this will be my first cosplay

This character is barefoot, but you have to have shoes so would it be okay to wear converse?

  • @KibaAkamaruForever Its best to wear shoes, you should use shoes you think L would wear, i haven't watching Death Note cause i dont feel the need, but go ahead wear converse if you think L would wear something like it.

  • @KibaAkamaruForever I'm not sure what you need help with as there's not much to L. I would suggest looking at makeup threads on cosplay.com though. And yes, please wear shoes as you can't walk around barefoot.

  • with the reference pictures!! the person who i am cosplaying as has a green tie.. but the clothes that people buy online are all red!! i checked numerous times!! what one should i use.. i would imagine the green! but all of the "professional" costumes have all red ties

  • @GeekyGirl9000 If it shows the character with a green tie then get green.

  • @AntiAiChan okay!! thank you!

  • Nice Tips. I am teaching a panel on this on Jul 31st.

  • Any tips for a female cosplaying as a male?

  • @goldthylacine I'm not sure what tips you're looking for as most cosplay tips apply to crossplay as well.

  • Orange satin ninja XD

  • Hey i was thinking about cosplaying as sasori from the show naruto and could'nt decide if i should make or buy the akatsuki cloak, that sasori wears. What do you think?

  • @jman11097 I can't tell you if you should make or buy something, that's up to you and what you feel most comfortable doing.

  • What's a good material for something that's feudal Japanese?

  • @dorothyofDA That's a pretty broad question since you're not actually asking for anything specific. Whatever you're hoping to make, just do some research on what they used back then, how the garment is supposed lay or drape, etc.

  • I like that you pointed out the thing about makeup. What I like to see in cosplay is people actually pulling it off. No offense but I like seeing cute anime girls looking cute, if you're dull then I recommend eyeliner at least on your upper eye lid. o 3 o

  • I always want to do an awesome cosplay, but I don't know how to sew. And I don't look right for anything. t.t

  • @ChibiDr3amz Don't let that stop you. Start small and work your way up to harder costumes. And just because you don't look like a character doesn't mean you can't show your love for the character by cosplaying it. It's about having fun and right now you're the only person stopping you from taking part in that fun.

  • is it better to by online or make your own cosplay??

  • @TheYuki1994 I don't think one is better then the other, it's more about your goals as a cosplayer. I enjoy making costumes because it's fun, I learn a lot about sewing and I feel accomplished when the costume is finished. If you have no interest in learning to sew and just want to emulate the character then go buy the costume. To each their own!

  • PLEASE REPLY! :( i have a problem.. me and my friend are going as sora and roxas from kingdom hearts. and i ended up with roxas.. the problem is, he has blonde hair, but i have BLACK EYEBROWS... what do i do? theyre i guess semi-thick but not really.. it was fine when i was coslaying as Naruto because he has a headband that covers my eyebrows,, but rpxas shows his eyebrows.. what do i do?? have you had this problem? any tips? please help...!!

  • @louiearigsby I use a root touch up if I need to go blonde. I bought it at Sally's Beauty Supplies and it comes in a bottle that looks like mascara and comes in a few different colors. You may have to do a few coats. I've also seen people use a heavy concealer to cover their eyebrows and re-draw them on or use powder applied with a brush.

  • @AntiAiChan root touch up doesnt dye it right? just to cover? is hair color spray from party city good or no?

  • @louiearigsby No, it doesn't; it washes right off. Hair color spray is a terrible idea. Not only is that stuff cheap and flaky but that can be dangerous to apply around your eyes. You would need to mask off your entire face just to spray your eyebrow.

  • But i really want to cosplay grell and i really need a third opinion.

  • @laila262003 No one has the right to tell you not to cosplay someone. If that's the character you like then go for it. Skin tone doesn't matter and weight doesn't either; just make sure to tailor the outfit so it fits you. For example, don't make anything too tight or form fitting, Create the pants and top just big enough to hide anything you don't want people to see and that will flatter your shape much better. Good luck!

  • @AntiAiChan thanks so much for the confidence boost :) i'm a wig and a coat away from cosplaying him :3

  • @laila262003 Yay! I hope all goes well!

  • @AntiAiChan will probably post some pics on dA after i get the whole suit, if you wanna see i could give you the link ^w^

  • @laila262003 Sounds good! =D

  • Really helpful tips! Yet i've something to ask, i want to cosplay Grell Sutcliff in the near future and i really wonder if i fit his category. I'm 166 cm high, i'm alittle on the heavy side but not much, my bones are really big and kinda heavy so if i give you my kgs you'd probably imagine something else. My skin is a slightly darker tone but not i'm black i'm just... milk chocolate with too much milk. I could give you my facebook through PM if you want. A friend said " no wtf, change character

  • @AntiAiChan Ok thanks a lot ^^

  • @AntiAiChan Do you mean with two foundations that you would use them at the same time or just depending on the character?

Thanks for reply and tips ^^ I'm pretty sure i can use them once i start cosplaying ^^

  • @ilovetheakatsuki94 It really varies on the character but when I crossplay I always use the darker foundation around my cheeks and jaw to make them look more angled and manly. Sometimes I'll use the lighter one down my nose or high on my cheekbones as well. The best way to figure out what works best on your facial structure is to just experiment though. =3

  • I know that i want to cosplay as Sasuke, Itachi, Hidan or Deidara from Naruto. But all the other things.... so i have a few questions about the looks: since im a girl and they are male characters, do you have any tips for binding your chest? and what kind of make-up would be good for those boys? (just eyeliner and faundation, or do you suggest more?) and since i never sew: is it bad to buy your first cosplay so that you can start and later (when you get the hang of it) make your own?

  • @ilovetheakatsuki94 For binding there are various methods but the best is to get a compression vest. If you're small chested you can usually get away with a tight sports bra. Foundation is a must for any cosplay but you should use a darker and lighter foundation to create manlier features such as jawline and a broader nose. Try thickening your eyebrows with shadow and nude-ing your lips too. There's nothing wrong with buying your cosplay as long as you don't claim to have made it.

  • I'm really tall for my age, I'm 6 ft nearly 6ft 1 and Im 14 years old. I''m not fat, but I have a big bone structure. im not muscular but im starting to go to the gym. does anyone know any good cosplays I could pull off. I'm a guy btw :P

  • I'm cosplaying as Xion from kingdom hearts for anime con this ear and I feel like I don't have the face and eyes for her character. I wear glasses and have brown eyes, I also think I'm kinda...ugly...so yea...help pwease? -.- T-T

  • @AnimeLuver4Eva3 I'm not sure how you want me to help. I can't change your physical appearance so I'm unsure of what help I can possibly give. =/

  • about the cheap wigs being bad I had a really awesome cheap wig

  • Can you help pwetty pwease! ii am cosplaying as Saix from Kingdom Hearts and seriously having a hard time going at the wig part, ii have not started yet but like Saix has spikey hair and the wigs blue and kind of long how do ii go at styling into a decent Saix wig? Hope that made sense and hope like crazy you know who Saix is xP Please comment back, Thanks

  • @ReneeCM3 All you had to do was search for a wig spiking tutorial. Go to DeviantArt and put that in the search box or you can go to cosplay.com and search the forums. There are hundreds of tutorials on how to spike a wig.

  • I'm going to cosplay Canada from Hetalia, but I've only ever worn make up once in my life, and it didn't feel very comfortable for my face. Would just eyeliner be okay?

  • @TheKuroOokami Didn't feel comfortable for your face? I'm not sure I understand; however, you may want to experiment with a few different products and brands. Things can feel odd if you're not used to them, especially if you're wearing the wrong type of makeup for your face. I can't say if only eyeliner would work for you, that something you'll have to play around with for yourself. Like I said, just test out some different types of makeup and see what works best for you. =3

  • @AntiAiChan

    Okay, thank you! :3

  • One thing I learned with the peace sign is it really depends on your Character. I was cosplaying May from Pokemon recently and the pictures I did the peace sign in came out so cool because it was so May. I was also going to say thank you for supporting the wear makeup thing. That is one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to cosplay. I can't tell you how many friends I have that refuse to wear makeup and it annoys me so much.

  • Let me guess um well Princess Kraehe from Princess Tutu was a bad option as my first sewing project... I almost did it...

  • @Cosplayers101 Oh goodness! I'm glad you had second thoughts about that. I couldn't even imagine the pain of making a tutu.

  • @AntiAiChan Well I did do the cosplay but I almost made the tutu... there was a problem that I bought too little fabric. Plus I did not know how to close the Tutu so it ended up being to big. It is something I learned to wait on for many more years though.

  • lol the part where u said: "you'll seriously die." was epic and something i won't forget XD *grabs pen and paper* lol

  • @MultiSkade True facts: One in every two hundred cosplayers die from not using stretch material when trying to make a body suit or any other outfit that needs to stretch. DON'T BE ANOTHER STATISTIC!

  • Also I made the costume from scratch.

  • I've never sewn before so I practiced by making an apron and that worked well, failed on my second apron, and then when my convention came around I bought a whole lot of stuff to make a shrine maiden outfit for Himeko from Kannazuki no Miko and that turned out wonderfully. :] Skill level 1up achieved quickly.

  • @NathanSpelling Congrats on making your first costume! =D

  • so happy I found this video! I'm doing a speech on how to cosplay properly for school and this will really help a lot! thank you for the awesome tips!

  • @ShiekGirl101 No prob, I'm glad they could come in handy for you. Good luck on your speech.

  • Don't patronize me, woman. I will remain composed despite your obvious sexual advances towards me

  • @atrollslife Who's trolling who now?

  • @AntiAiChan i dont troll, i never was. you are bad at cossplay im just sharing the opinion. dont think i'll overlook this just because you're sexiness is overpowering

  • @atrollslife Well that's a new one: a troll who doesn't know what a troll is. That's adorable, but really, you should leave before I mark you as spam.

  • I've been cosplaying for four years now, and those were still very helpful tips. Thank you!

  • ty iv just found out about tokyo acouple years earlier and found out about cosplay. i lov japan i speak alittle japanese romaji by learning for a couple years and i lov anime and manga now iv been searching and searching onlien with all these expensive things and once i searched and found u i actually am now saving up for items and ty for the tips i am now saving up for the things i need im actually writing down tips

  • @hatsuneMiku10001 Good luck! =3

  • cossplay is really gay, if i wanted to dress up like a japanese girl i'd get a sex change and move to japan

  • @atrollslife Yes, cosplay is homosexual because hobbies obviously have a sexual preference. And when your getting that sex change surgery make sure sure the doctors pull the stick out of your ass.

  • @AntiAiChan you did not understand what i said at all. please only reply seriously

  • @atrollslife Pretty sure I understood what you said but I don't respond seriously to obvious trolls. Feel free to take your hate somewhere else.

  • @AntiAiChan if not liking the idea of wearing the clothes fictional characters wear is trolling then i'm an obvious troll. your cossplay tips aren't even that good. i've seen better ones

  • @atrollslife Cool story bro.

  • @AntiAiChan your realy hot

  • @atrollslife tolllololololol

  • I have a question ;3.

It's my first time cosplaying. And I chose Haruh Suzumiya to do.

Is that too hard? "Cuz I have no idea. XD

  • @TheFantaFriday The sailor top shouldn't be too hard but the skirt doesn't have regular pleats and that could pose a challenge. I'm sure you could figure them out if you look them up online. =3

  • @AntiAiChan Thanx! :3 Yes, I'm sure I could figure out a way. :)

  • your tips are really on spot and i think i can make a outfit now something simple and i might be able to pull it off thanks im still confused about the material though wah :(

  • Great vid, your speach flowed very nicely. I hate watching info vids and the speaker says "Ummm", "uhhhh" and "aaaaannnndddd uhhh", every other word.

  • hey i have a question

okay if i want to cosplay someone who is suppose to be like i don't know 5'8

and i'm 5'1 would that be okay to cosplay?

  • first off, i LOVE your hair. seriously, its awesome.

second, this are great tips, even though I sort of knew them in the back of my mind, these really reminded me of what I knew, and also showed me some new things. ^_^

  • @AngelicAnimeX Thanks! And even though some of them are a little obvious, it's amazing how many people just forget about them. I'm just glad I could remind someone! =3

  • My computer does the same ringing noise, so your not alone.

  • I wonder if I'm the only person to ask for an interview about cosplay lol

  • @Asuka321 I've actually been interviewed a few times about cosplay so it's really not that odd. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. =3

  • Good tips , but I remember when we first started I took a photo with my bags...LOL! freakin hilarious!

  • @cutenpsycho46 Those were seriously the best pictures ever!

  • Great vid really helpful. question i live really close to a hair store could i just buy one there and if i need a party color just dye it???

I kinda been avoid a cosplay with a ponytail and trying not to reveal my real hair. is there anyway to prevent that?

  • @idolYuuka I think you missed a few words in there but I'm guessing you're talking about buying clip-ons/wigs and dying them? Sorry if that's wrong.

You can't actually dye a wig with hair dye unless it's real human hair. In order to dye synthetic hair you need to go through the Sharpie dye method which is a huge pain in the butt!

  • you are waaay too cute. add me to fb. /clydemax

  • @ClydetotheMax Daww! Thank you! And friend request has been sent!

  • Do you think guys should wear make up? What do you think they should wear? Does it depend mostly on the character?

  • @LanMoore I actually answered a similar question below and here's what I put: For makeup on guys, I would at least put on a good coverup and foundation and make sure your eyebrows are neat and tidy. I'd say a good rule to follow for male characters is: the pretty they are the more makeup. That can be a small line of brown eyeliner to some mascara to give your eyes a nice pop.

  • @AntiAiChan Speaking as a guy who has never really warn make up I would like to say that I have no idea what that stuff is :P

  • @LanMoore Type in "cosmetics" into Wikipedia and all our questions will be answered! =D I'd provide a link but YouTube doesn't allow that in comment.

  • if i'm trying to cosplay a woman (being a man) and the cosplay i want to do is skin tight. how do i grow boobs big enough and how do i hide my gentleman vegetables?

  • @bishop2277 What are you talking about? You vegetable is more like a sprout, it's too small to try and hide. I also think you have enough hair on your chest that you can just hairspray it into place and it could pass as large boobs.

  • @AntiAiChan T_T ur right... it is super small... at first i thot i had 2 pubes until 1 of them pee'd! that's how i figured out i actually did have a penis...... sad day...

  • Would you recommend acertain makeup for guys as it is not as easy for us

  • well for uk con goers i mean

  • @danburleton I'm not sure if they have different brands over in the UK but I use CoverGirl a lot. You want a coverup stick to get rid of any blemishes on your face and then you can choose what type of foundation you want: liquid or powder some people even use both! Liquid makes everything smooth and evens out your skin tone better than powder but can leave your face shiny. Powder is lighter on your face but it won't cover things up as much. Does that help at all?

  • @AntiAiChan yeah that helps abit

  • love your hair cutie!!!!! MIss you too how have you been?

  • @DimensionX Hanging in there! Getting ready for graduation and then freaking out about Fanime. You?

  • Random comment time!

Yep, Trinity Blood is definitely NOT a first cosplay. LOL.

    Hee hee Satin Naruto...

Gah, Yes about the wig! I made that party city mistake in the beginning. Nevah again...

Any suggestions on general makeup for male chars?

Ah. Poses. Yes. I stink at poses. Prob. why I like Schroey so much. He's got do many funny/fun poses in context that aren't that hard to replicate.

  • @sethbramwell (I also might add, just for benefit of any one reading about poses... a Big grin doesn't work if your character doesn't do that generally. Death the Kid, Sephiroth, etc. are not usually known for a big sappy smile and peace sign, LOL)

  • @sethbramwell For makeup on guys, I would at least put on a good coverup and foundation and make sure your eyebrows are neat and tidy. I'd say a good rule to follow for male characters is: the pretty they are the more makeup. That can be a small line of brown eyeliner to some mascara to give your eyes a nice pop.

I actually put in a request to hot s posing panel at AV this year so if it goes through, you should definitely check it out! =3

  • @AntiAiChan =3 I surely will! Thanks!

  • I like stuff like this because it makes me think of things as I struggle along trying to cosplay. I think I'll color my eyebrows for gijinka Jigglypuff. :3 Thanks~

  • @SakuraMikage I think these are struggles that even seasoned cosplayers deal with, such as: choosing fabric, what looks flattering on you, posing and even makeup choices. However, once you start getting the basics down, it will become easier each time you try!
