I guess many of NASA's cool jobs go through kind of toxic and radioactive environments so many retire early. But of course non technical jobs are same as other jobs and you can work as long as you can.
Do you have to usually retire after a given number of years, or do they retire early topursue other carreers often? Hehe, I would never ever want to retire if I had been an astronaut..it is THE most wanted and fantastic job a human can have, I mean...so everything would have to take second place in my life after the austronaut career. Hehe, "or if I had been president"...becoming an astronaut is at least as difficult and unlikely, I guess. But one can dream and fantasize. : )
I have a slight hearing loss in one my ears, and I believe it is very important to have good hearing as a pilot/astronaut. Maybe I can take a trip as a tourist in the future, though.. That would be pretty great too, not? : )
Or you could stay on the ground, after all, to get the few astronauts to the moon back in the days, a crew of 40.000 was used. I guess the mars missions won't be much different (except they'll be more commercial and more efficient in manpower)
I've checked out a few astronauts on wikipedia and it looks like you're going to be frowned upon if you don't have at least two PhDs :P
Good to know there's someone else aspiring to go to space with a slight hearing loss out there ;)
Greatest U.S. astronaut who never flew a moon mission.

Amazing lady. Why such a very short video?? Doesn't do her justice.
Wish I could have joined her as an astronaut.
