Nothing wrong with serving in the Nat'l guard. The problem is that when your daddy claims to support a war, as both Quayle and Bush's fathers did, and has no problem sending other peoples' sons off to fight and die but won't do the same for their own sons. If they really believed that Vietnam was worth fighting, why did they work so hard to make sure their own kids never went? It just shows you that a lot of the guys pulling the strings really didn't believe in the war's justness
War is bad. I would do anything -phone calls, bribery, anything- to prevent my children from going to war. Being a patriot has nothing to do with getting killed like an animal.
Phone calls made on behalf of GW Bush so he could get into the Air National Guard? Oh hell yes, calls were made, by his Dad and friends of his dad, who wanted to save his little boy, from doing his duty at the time. But the George went AWOL... for that he should have gotten a a dishonorable discharge. Or even better shipped off to Vietnam till his EAS. And why was there such a big deal made about what was really in his military records, that is if there was nothing to hide come clean.
Watching this now makes me want to puke. This pathetic excuse for a "patriot" used his daddy to get in the guard and then didn't even do his time. And his brothers also avoided any service. And lets not forget 5 time deferment dick chaney. Serving in the guard is a very honorable thing. Using it to give the impression of serving while using every trick to avoid any actual participation is a disgrace. Mission accomplished.
Vietnam war was uncalled for. War agains't russians was uncalled for. War against Iraq was uncalled for. None of these countries america claimed to help is better off now. All enemies of America were "Phantom" enemies..all invented and triggered by the Neo cons in the 80s and now Iraq. This is very sad.when will our great nation stand on it's feet and be admired again.
I hope Bush stands trial for the crimes he has committed. I hope President Obama launches an in depth inquiry into the criminal activity of his despicable administration.
The governor has to ask the president for help and she waited 5 days to do it. That is a misconception amongst the democrats....they think that it is all Bush's fault. Where is the media blaming bush for blowing up the levees in the midwest?? Oh...republican states where people actually take care of themselves. They had plenty of national guard troops. Who orders those to places in their own states? The governor. She waited 5 days for that too. Katrina's problems were the democrats fault
Then, you look at the fact that Louisiana is a democrat state full of 'government can do all things" and can "take care of me" people. They wanted the government to hand out help instead of helping themselves. Dare I say a "welfare state", meaning mostly people living on the government dime, decided not to leave and look what happened. Nagin didn't use the buses...just left them there, and then dares to blame Bush for it.
You want to talk Katrina? OK. The midwestjust had historic floods....still going on for days now. Katrina had floods from the hurricane but the difference is that the people in the midwest took care of business, helped each other, and made sure that they got out before it got bad. Katrina people had days notice to get out b/c it was a cat-5 storm, they didn't leave, then got stuck, and then the governor and the mayor didn't give BUsh the ok for help, which they are required to do.
mainly because you all remember hurricane Katrina right? well guess why we didnt have enough national guards when that happned to guard this country and help out? because they were taken up by George Bush to be sent to Iraq. leaving you guessed it. depleted national guard force over here in the US of A
kinda hard to protect this country when all your eggs are in one basket in Iraq
I find it very ironic as well that bush out of all said" they probably should have called the national guard up we probably could have done a better job in vietnam"
very ironic this is the very man who sucked up every branch of the military for the war in iraq march of 2003.
i don't get it, why doesn't he stutter here in 1988 like he has done since 1999? Has he gotten demented over the years? Because i'll admit he sounded awfully slick in this video, maybe he tried to not soudn that so he could contrast to "slick willie". its so sad one has to do that to try to get people to not think he is lying outta his in the GW Bush style
You should check the video of him at the Texas Governor debates in 1994. It's hard to believe he's the same guy as our current president.
Bush was actually a good speaker up until he was elected, or rather wasn't elected, president. At that point there was no longer any reason to act smart.
i've seen it. He's such a fucking disingenuous Rednecklican, who feeds off the idiocy of our people. Just like his dad and Ronald Reagan. He tries to appeal to them by being like them. Actually, not a bad tactic, because idiots buy it.
I hope Bush stands trial for the crimes he has committed. I hope President Obama launches an in depth inquiry into the criminal activity of his despicable administration.
yeah, right. unfortunately, canada is stuck with the worst americans (the real draft dodging pussies). patriotic americans vote republican and serve their country in many ways, whether it be in the army, the national guard, or in their churches or community organizations. I think it's unfortunate that my country (canada) is stuck with the worst americans...but i guess it makes america a better place.
Right. How conveeeeenient. No one shootin' at your there. Others chose to go to Iraq and Afghanistan. If your choirboys really supported BushCult, they'd enlist so more guardsmen could see theirs families now and then. But they choose to hide behind a hymnal like cowards. History shows the ones who went to Canada were on the side of righteousness.
I liked the irony of his comment that maybe we'd better off in Vietnam if we sent the National Guard there. The soldiers in today's National Guard are being killed in Iraq - for what?
George Bush got a 25 out of 100 on his Air National Guard entrance exam. He is the only person in the history of the Air Guard to ever gain entrance without knowing how to fly.
He's a war criminal just like his daddy and his fascist Grand-daddy.
Or following international laws against torture, supporting the constitution, respecting the separation of church and state, not politicizing the justice department, reinstating habeus, respecting the separation of powers, responding to congressional subpoenas, and just generally not being evil.
ooh, or better, what about the fake outrage of last week with the whole schip thing? when democrat party people used a kid as a human sheild for the policy. it turned out that the kid's family lives in a $400k home with three cars. democrat party shills were just apalled that critics would "attack a child".
but democratics actually have attacked children, like for instance a kid named noah mccollough, whom they called a "budding young fascist" , a "little piglet" who dserved an "ass-kicking".
you see how feeble that sounds? if i was in the habbit of replacing counterfactuals in my arguments with "U JUST LISSEN TO TEH OLBERDOUCHE AND TEH ED SHULTZ!!!!one!1" i wouldn't really be making a point at all, would i? you've done that twice so far. i hope heraldblog isn't the blog for an actual newspaper.
Heraldblog - that's "Stalkin' Malkin." :) The one that favored concentration camps back in WW II and even wrote a whole book about it. Real American, that.
The point is, he says at the end "Maybe they shoulda called up the National Guard,; Maybe we woulda done better in Vietman."
Hey, shithead, they DID call up the National Guard. You were just too privileged and rich-white-boy to know it. Or maybe you were too drunk to remember, while sucking on the GOP cock.
They are deriding Bush's service in the National guard and his 'phone calls' to get him OUT of serving in Vietnam, unlike so many who served and DIED.
He did NOT say he didn't place phone calls. In fact, he said phone calls 'may have been made'. Of course, not by him, but by Daddy. What is your point in defending this man?
i have to admit, i'm ususally good at deciphering lefty bullshit, but for the life of me i can't figure out what demrapidresponse's angle on this is supposed to be.
are the democratics upset with this because they've spent the last seven years deriding the national guard as no being real service while pretending to care deeply about national guard members' safety and equipment levels?
Both Quayle and B*sh joined the National Guard for one purpose: to avoid combat in Vietnam. They pulled strings so that they could get ahead of the line.
B*sh is comparing service in the National Guard to running to Canada. It's just another option for the real goal: avoiding combat. The 50,000 Americans whose names are engraved on the Vietnam War Memorial didn't have that choice.
not democrat president bill clinton. he ran to europe. later he would bomb iraq and go to war in yugoslavia. not him. he sent "our boys".
did you know that we still have national guard units in the midst of that civil war in that "unwinnable conflict"?
i'm searching yt for vids of progressives protesting the bosnian serbian war. i can't find any. can any of you principled opponents of imperialist war against poor countries point me to any?
Clemtoe, National Guard was safe service in the 60s; it's where sons of privilege went to avoid combat. Nobody is deriding today's National Guard. You can go listen to Rush now. Fake outrage time is over.
rottenmac disagrees with you. he says that national guard units were called to vietnam. and he's correct. in fact the air national guard were actually conducting combat missions in vietnam when bush enlisted.
as for "fake outrage," how's randy rohdes healing up?
I'll type slowly - The National Guard Was Safe Service In The 60s. It doesn't matter that "some" guardsmen saw action (if that's even true). One's chances of staying out of combat were much greater in the 60s Guard than in the 60s Army. Really.
I went through hell in Vietnam and it changed me. It made me see that young men suffer when old men fuck up. Bush didn't change. He was a smug sob then and he's a smug sob today.
that just doesn't even make sense, but then a look at your channel shows that you're mainly concerned with titty vids, so i'm going to guess that you just don't know much about serious matters.
not that the left wing conspiracy theory about bush's national guard service is to be taken seriously.
Bush was a spoiled rich kid with powerful friends who kept him out of Vietnam. No conspiracy theory here, thems the facts. Rather was totally set up in a Carl Rove type dirty tricks operation. It should be interesting to see the findings of the court on this one.
clemto is a Bush hack of some kind talking out of his ass. He would rather do personal attacks than actually discuss the facts of the matter.
Go Go Dan Rather! I hope that you have a really good aggressive lawyer.
Even back then, Bush was an arrogant, smug piece of shit who thinks he's better than everyone.
Thanks a lot, mainstream media, for whitewashing this guy and letting him destroy America's reputation, the dollar, the Constitution, the Middle East, etc., etc..
All hail the future Boy King, Bush II. He should have mentioned how on his application to the Texas Guard he wrote that he did not want to go to Vietnam.
Better - close, but what he did was leave the country fields blank. Were he not a hypocrite, he could have written in Vietnam, but he chose not to. That job he left to other fathers' sons. My father's son, for instance. I went so he could party down here, kind of like today's chickenhawk Young Republicans.
"Maybe we'd have done better in Vietnam"?? What a slur on the people who did have the guts to serve in Vietnam, instead of having Dad arrange a Guard posting. Fucking guy. It's a shame he and Cheney didn't go to war. They might have learned how hard war is and that you can't win with no planning and not enough troops. These fuckers think rhetoric and lies will carry the day.
I would say it's not funny at all. People are expressing their frustration with words and thumb votes, which is not the same as a loaded gun. The 'on balance' question is a specious attempt at judgment imho. Just watch the video and you can see that words indeed are cheap.
At least he's consistent. You get the feeling he actually believes what he says. He's quite gung-ho.
If he had been called up to serve in Vietnam that wouldn't necessarily mean he'd have become a dove in later life. Take one look at Hitler's life for a counterexample. Some people go through Hell and think that's what the world ought to be like...
I'm a Vietnam infantry veteran and The National Guard is where all the rich pussies went back then. Don't let Bush kid you, he would of pissed his pants if he would of been called to Vietnam!
Me too, 1966-1969. I went to Chicken Cheney could "pursue other priorities," like most republican pussies of the day did. Hypocritical chickenhawks all. Why do they show no shame today down at the country club?

clemto is a Bush hack of some kind talking out of his ass. He would rather do personal attacks than actually discuss the facts of the matter.
Go Go Dan Rather! I hope that you have a really good aggressive lawyer.

this idiotic liar
He really makes me sick--
Him and his best pal, Dick.

These fuckers think rhetoric and lies will carry the day.

we would have been better off if he got blown to pieces in vietnam.....

it's funny:
progressive a says the president should be killed. progressive b says that's not "helpful" to say outright.
progressive a get's his comment rated up by the community, while progressive b get's his comment rated down.
now, would you say that progressives are on ballance pro-assasination or of the mind that open exhortations to violence are not "helpfull"?
clemtoe 4 years ago
