It is because the jedi are not allowed to free slavery. Anakin said possession and attachment is forbidden in episode 2. If the jedi would feel passionate to free the slaves, the jedi might turn into the darkside.
the underwater scene does add to the characters as well we learn that Jar Jars personality is clumsy, and that qui gon jinn has great faith in the force since he says "Don't worry the force will guide us", so obviously they don't know how to get to Naboo and are just trusting the force to guide them there, and if they trust in the force so much that they depend on it to guide them to Naboo then that's some real faith right there.
the trade federation is in charge of the trading in the republic, key word TRADE federaton(if im wrong please tell me).
the tax dispute doesn't matter, its a scheme anyway formed by palpatine, gunray even says at the begining "This scheme of yours has failed lord sidious", and there real intentions are to invade Naboo so that palpatine could get the sympathy vote for supreme canceller since Naboo is his home planet, and we know that because he's in the same pod as admidala.
it is obvious that the sith are the ct opposite of the Jedi.
Sith- dark side
Jedi- light side a jedi council member says "The sith have been extiinct for a millennium", windu says "I do not believe the sith would return without us knowing it " and they all seem surprised by there return and Mual says "at last we will have revenge" obviously the Jedi must had killed them off so know they want revenge.
@starwarsboy7705 But that's never explained fully in any of them. In the 3rd it's never brought up as to why they want revenge, he just does it and poof, done.
the fact that anakin was conceived by the midi-chlorians does add something to the character. Lucas was trying to convince us that this guy was different and special, it explains why he has so many midi-chlorians, and its what makes him the chosen one, the force chose him, so therefore it also created him with the midi-chlorians.
@starwarsboy7705 But the midi-chlorians was such an ass-pull and took away the spiritual essence that made Jedi. I agree with Matt on this about the midi-chlorians was a selective process thing.
The reason darth maul doesn't talk is because the actor playing him, Ray Park had a voice that didn't fit the character. His lines were dubbed over by another actor.
@charlesvan13 they can't communicate with anyone or else the trade federation will trace the message to tatooine and find them, and capture the queen.
@charlesvan13 Why didn't they just trade their ship in for a functional ship? Or we could've had a nice call back to the original trilogy where they hire a transport ship and give them the republic credits. While Watto might not want the credits, the transport pilot probably would want them since they travel.
actually it is because the jedi are in the coucil not only to feel the force but to send the jedi which he/she is chosen, and the force also bind the galaxy together. second, the republic is very busy in disputing about the crisis in Naboo.
@charlesvan13 Because Qui-Gon said via communicator "It's too dangerous to call for help." He and Obi-Wan knew, or at least sensed, through Sio Bibble's transmission that the Trade Federation could have tracked their location had they responded in any way. Although they DID have that option.
...Matthew, I have a question. Much as I like your work, and as much as you uncover a lot of the HUGE flaws in the prequel movies, what is so damned hard for you to get about the Sith essentially being the opposites to the Jedi? And in case you don't get it, allow me to show you...
@Jygerthe2nd Truth. But we still dont know why are they so pissed, why they want revenge for something, or how it works. I mean, couldnt they just made 15 seconds long scene with Qui-gon saying "Yeah, there was a war, they lost blah blah".
About the whole Anakin not having a father if I was George Lucas I would write down in the script that the father just died because when he tried to escape his machine would just blow up. Really the mom can't just magically be pregnant she has to have sex with a man. Common sense George Lucas.
@darthdan1000 Noooo dude they need to alude to immaculate conception in order to make Anakin seem special! I mean where would the movie be if Anakin wasn't ALSO a metaphor for jesus?
@darthdan1000 and then that bullshit that the sith can cause pregnancy using the force to try and explain his mum not needed a dad was utter crap in episode III
@cody2819, He said that in the review. He said it was "Immaculate Conception" and that it added nothing to the story and was a ridiculous idea. So he already acknowledged the whole dumb jesus reference.
@sfs2040 Thank you for overtly geeking out. You certainly educated us all. Seriously this is one of those corrective comments that make you seem A.) correct and B.) simultaneously a loser.
The thing I'll disagree with Matthew on is the Sith. Its obvious they are the opposites of the Jedi and their idea's and beliefs are extinct (or thought to be), and it was the Jedi who whipped them out (or almost did). In A New Hope, Obiwan says "now the Jedi are all but extinct." Now I don't like the concept of the Sith since they weren't in the original series, but here, just what they are seems pretty self explanatory.
@southparkfan2717 It may be "obvious," but the problem is that they're not explained too much. The Jedi were explained. The Sith were not. Why do they hate the Jedi? Why do they want revenge? Why do they only have two when three or more would do much better? Why do they embrace the Dark Side? These are not explained.
They embrace the darkside cause they belive in power and hatred and anger. Them wanting revenge is only their second motivation, there main motivation is that they want to take over the repub.ic in turn it into an empire, because they want power and force their believes on the galaxy, the same the empire which they started did in the original trilogy. Also the msin reason they hate the Jedi us because they have oposed political and religious views, the revenge thing is just a secobdarry element.
@MaxxTheMerciless They are constantly working on starting the empire, Palpatine talks of the meaning of power, in V and VI they try to get Lukw too give into hate, etc. Also if the Sith were underdevelopped in th prequels the darkside users wrre also undevelopped in the OT.
@reviewreviewer1 Again, you made all that up. All of that can be interpreted in all kinds of ways. Without specifics on who the Sith are, why they want revenge, and what their goals are, they're not a good villain. This is somewhat forgivable in the Original Trilogy because the villains weren't the Sith, but the Empire. But the Prequels don't have an Empire, so the elements at play to make the Sith a viable villain must be established. Quit making things up.
@MaxxTheMerciless They established in the OT the emperor ad vader were lkeading the empire and here they ar trying to create it we see that in their actions.b Palpatine talks in II about power in such a way we know he is obseesed by it and he sais he wants the Sith to rule, that they then force their w=ays o others we know from the OT. Also why some embrace the darkside was made obvious in the OT they believe in anger and hatrwed and also to beliefve something you need no reason.....
@MaxxTheMerciless Also Palpatine makes it clear in his conversation with Anakin he oposes the Jedis views and he mursders al of them so hes reason is obvious it is quite obvious anyways since they have oposinmg views.
@reviewreviewer1 Also, all Palpatine made "clear" is that he has a problem with the Jedi, more likely because they can thwart his plans. But what isn't clear is his motivations. What isn't clear is why he wants revenge, why he wants a Galactic Empire versus a Republic that does what he wants them to do anyway. You read a lot of things into this film that really aren't there. That is why you fail.
@MaxxTheMerciless Nio I told you where I based it on and you ifnore that so you are trolling Mike. Also he made iot clear he disagrees with the Jedi. Also again the rfevenge was a secondarry motivations the msin goals were clear they wanbt to start an empire to rule obviusly bnwcause they love power and because they wantto force their ideas on others as we saw in the OT and th lust for power we sawe in both films.
@reviewreviewer1 It is you that's trolling. Explain this "lust for power." Explain just why he disagrees with the Jedi. Explain why he wanted revenge. But one rule: Only cite your source from the films.
@reviewreviewer1 In that conversation, Palpatine doesn't make anything "clear." He doesn't say he opposes the Jedi views. He may not necessarily agree, but he doesn't say anything about any opposition. See what I mean? You are making things up. You lose.
@reviewreviewer1 Listen to those conversations again. None of what they talked about had really very little to do with the Sith directly. They never addressed them, who they are, their motivations, their goals, their philosophy, and we do know that Palpatine is very deceptive. This wasn't being simplistic, this was being mysterious, but not in a good way. Giving the audience nothing to understand who our villain is and why he does what he does is not good storytelling.
@MaxxTheMerciless .. the empire are the same so if the prequels are bad so is the OT Al;so why do I have to accept they are bad it is just your opinion and most people like the prequels. aAlso you simpily want things to be overly obvfious insead of subtle an ignore obvious things. Taxes cost moneey if they tax tradre this cfosts the traders money so they are againast taxes, why wouild thry hsve to be asny more obvious also, you are a coward you talk to me while you blocked me. Also...
@reviewreviewer1 No, the Empire is NOT the same as the Sith. The Empire is something we can see, we know they're evil - they blow up planets! At no time, ever, is the word "Sith" even mentioned once in the OT. But, since in the Prequels, there is no Empire, but they mention this Sith, we need more information. It's not enough for any sane, reasonable thinking person to just swallow that Palpatine is a Sith without knowing who the Sith are, and why they do what they do.
@reviewreviewer1 And no, it's not opinion. It is fact. I know what good films look like, and none of the Prequels are good films. And no, I don't need things necessarily to be obvious, but some things do need explaining especially when you're making a film set in a purely fictional setting. You can't seem to grasp that. It's not enough to just say the Sith are the bad guys, and call that good. Good movies do more than that. They establish the stakes, which the Prequels never did.
@MaxxTheMerciless Oke so you obviously are Mikethemerciless, no you aren`t my teacher I already proofed you wrong in many conversations and you simpily ignore my points which is trolling you ares a troll, and should leave youtube.
@reviewreviewer1 I did not ignore your points. I proved them wrong by asking pointed questions that you failed to answer. I am the teacher, and you are the student. Yes, I lied to you, because I'm teaching you something. Why don't you learn?
The reason why I don't want to talk to you in private is so to expose you for the idiot that you are. Thank you. You have done a masterful job.
@MaxxTheMerciless I answered your questions Mike. and wow YOU CLAIMN YOUR OPINIONS ON FILMS ARE FACT, WOW HOW AROGANT. I explained the Sith and they are the same as the empire the main Sith is the future empire who starts and leads the empire. Also autistic people dom`t rtandomly swalow things there are many forms of authism and that you get so iunsulting is trolling troll, I proofes how the Sith were explained so give up facist troll.
@reviewreviewer1 They are fact. Not opinion. Good films follow certain criteria, all of which Lucas failed to meet. He did not establish the stakes of the situation in the prequels well, we don't care about the characters, or the dilemma they're presented with, and the antagonists are not defined. When you grow up, maybe you'll see what I'm talking about.
Autistic people, like you, grab onto a concept and never let it go. You repeat the same shit over and over. You're autistic.
@MaxxTheMerciless You repeat the same things to but I keep explaining my points also, you are trolling again troll. Alzso no those vriteriua are you opinion you sre so arogant get theraopy troll, troll, troll, troll.
@reviewreviewer1 I keep trying to explain to you why your explanations are inadequate. But you don't listen. That is a strong indication you're autistic.
@MaxxTheMerciless No I disagree so sinxce yoy disagree wuith me that then makes youe autiatic also troll. also I havea a progblem in my hands hence the tuping, troll., alsio my explanatiomns aklready prtoofed you wrong givwe up, you often lost and then reserted to trolling and simpily ifnired my points in circles as a troll, and you use double standards as a troll, troll, tro,ll.
@reviewreviewer1 How did you "prove" anything? You did not explain who the Sith were, nor did you cite your in-film source, nor did you make your case. You proved nothing. You could not explain who the Trade Federation was, what the Trade Dispute was, or cite your evidence in the film. Those are the facts. You lost, sonny. And what's more, I like how it is you try to twist what I've said right back at you.
@MaxxTheMerciless Dude I cited scenes from the film explaining the Sith anbd it is truw the things you sao me apply to you troll. Also the empire was an entity was controlled by the Sith so it`s brai it`s lkeadership which defined it were the Sith, all thode others were just carryinbg out their biksnesses. troll.
@reviewreviewer1 No, you did not. Those scenes did not explain anything! AT ALL!
Your language comprehension is a joke! If you got an explanation of the Sith and who they were, why they hate the Jedi, why they want revenge, you are on some serious drugs.
You can lift the word Sith out of the Prequels and it would change nothing. It has no significance to anyone, no bearing on the story, nothing. It is a cheap plot device, which you obviously cannot understand.
@MaxxTheMerciless I explained how they did. The revenge was onl secondarry theior main plan was to take over threw vuiolence cause they anted power and to forcew their rule on the gslaxy wih suspression we know this cause they will orser the enmpire to do what the yd did in the OT and they whipe out those with differemt views. The Siuth name is a namwe which orginaationa have end of story.
@reviewreviewer1 Then why did they mention it? Why did they mention they wanted revenge? See, that's important. They needed to explain that. They needed to show their motivation. Power, in and of itself, is not enough. By virtue of the fact you can't seem to grasp that means you're an idiot. Idiots can't grasp complex ideas. Power must always have a goal.
The goal was, really, the elimination of the Jedi, which brings us back to our two questions: Who are the Sith, and why...cont...
@MaxxTheMerciless So9rry but if a goal isn` enhough the emire in the OT had no motivation either, ppower is nice it means you have influyence and they extarminated the Jedi cause of different view, the revenge was mentioned as an intetpastable element to only be implie which since it is secondarruyy is cooil.
@reviewreviewer1 Wrong. The OT is really a separate entity from the PT. The Empire had goals, and was not, at all, connected with anything called the Sith. Sure, you might say that Palpatine was a Sith, but who cares? Because they didn't explain who and what they were, Sith has no real function other as a distraction for morons out there. The Prequels only tried to match the results that the Empire had become, and failed miserably.
@MaxxTheMerciless No the empires goals where those of the Sith cause the empire was lead by the emperor and the emperor was a Sith, also I ana;lyse the scened all thw time and uopu make things upo and unsult me troll.
@reviewreviewer1 Not necessarily. That is not explained. Again, I pointed out that Palpatine had already taken over the Republic, so what was the Empire for? He had achieved everything he wanted, even eliminating the Jedi. You take so many things so seriously that it indicates you're autistic, reading too much, seeing what you want to see, instead of what the rest of us see. I've gone over all of this, and only idiots, like you, see what you want to see.
@MaxxTheMerciless Uh no the Jedi tried to assinmate him he needed emnergenbcy powers to make decisions it was tempararly you you are the one making that up. troll.
You can't grasp basic and even complex concepts. You resort to calling me a troll and you have no idea of what that means.
You are the troll.
I'm the only one coming up with salient arguments. You're not. You just say "The sith are bad...They're bad. They're the Empire. That means they're bad!"
@reviewreviewer1 Do yourself a favor. Read Hot Cross Buns. Or The Boxcar Children. Read The Cat in the Hat. Or anything Curious George. You seem to need it.
@MaxxTheMerciless No I believe in myself and I am not gonna follow you espiciallt since you make up facts based on unfaier stereoytypers and basel;eds asumptions troll, troll, troll.
@MaxxTheMerciless Troll, troll, troll, troll, ttroll, troll, troll troll, no the trade feferatiom doesn` want taces this would mean they would looose money trtaders don`t wan to loose monwy.
@reviewreviewer1 Not assumptions. Based on fact. I made you out to be autistic, and that is what you are. You can't be anything else. I've debated prequel defenders before, but you can't even see how it is the Sith, the Trade Federation, the Separatists, and the basic stakes of the plot, are unexplained. THEY CAN! My God. You're the worst! Even they see the problems of the prequels, but YOU DO NOT!
@MaxxTheMerciless So I am autistic becsause I disagree with you whose opinions are fact, alright I get it you are god, well please god I ask you how will you solve the problerms in the world.
@reviewreviewer1 No, you're autistic because you can't grasp complex ideas. You can't understand how not everything is in black-and-white. You are autistic because, like a pit-bull, you tear into a simple idea and never consider other options.
@MaxxTheMerciless Wow I dide give reasons so you are trolloing, you are just offendingand trolling trolling, troll, troll, troll, troll, troll, troll....................
@reviewreviewer1 ANSWER THE QUESTION. CAN'T YOU SEE HOW THIS WORKS?
If the Trade Federation has representation in the Senate, that means they can submit bills for voting. That means they can write laws. That means that they could write a law restricting all trade to the outer rim to them and them alone, and then impose a tax on them. (that's not what Lucas wanted, but this is a possibility).
@MaxxTheMerciless Yes they can suggest the nbill and then can panned by everyone for blatant corruption, so such a plan would nwver efver ework,. I am sorry but they can`t avoid paying, so they can`t ptofirt from taxes.
@reviewreviewer1 No, fuckhead. No. If I write an exemption in a bill, that means I don't get to pay. I guess complex ideas fly right over your pretty little head.
@MaxxTheMerciless Tghat yuou thinbk I am wrtong doesn`t justisgfy acting as a troll. No you can`t present we want to haveothera suffer anddkie out wgile we thrive csuse that iw nbive for us well.
@reviewreviewer1 See, you are so simplistic in your thinking that you don't know how they might GAIN from this.
How would they lose money if THEY wrote the legislation? How would they lose money if THEY were exempted from it? How would they lose money if THEY established a monopoly?
Oops. Complex ideas! My God. If I have to explain that, you are a certain, certifiable, USDA Grade A choice moron!
@MaxxTheMerciless They are tradres so they don`t ight l;egislation officials do, wh would they be exeempted from it why, the republic isn`t that corrupt, even on a monopoly they still would have to pay.
@reviewreviewer1 But Traders have direct representation in the Senate! That means they can write laws!!!!!
Don't you see how this works? Are you so stupid to see the implication of that? They can write whatever law they want, exempt themselves from paying any taxes in this regard.
The Trade Feds have lots of money. That means they can buy votes, giving campaign credits to those they need to sway a vote. This is not hard to understand. My god, my four year old nephew understands this.
If the Senate votes on this law, guess what? That means that the Trade Feds get what they want. They may not be "in charge of the Republic" but they, by law, get what they want.
@MaxxTheMerciless No not all votes can be bought and you see thid would cost them loads of money, modt honorable pe0ople would not rest until seeibg them expelled from the sehate.
Not all may necessarily buy what the Trade Feds were selling, but what about the Techno-Union (whoever they were), or the Banking Clan (whoever they were), or the other members of the Separatists (whoever they were).
You just don't know enough. You are so fucking ignorant. So fucking blind. But you know, Lucas agrees with you. See, in Wookiapedia, they went with YOUR analysis. It doesn't work, but, feel good about yourself.
@reviewreviewer1 con... and why did they want Revenge? All of this could've been handled in one or two minutes of real exposition, not that scene you cited. That scene told us nothing.
Sith is a cheap plot device. It serves nothing to the story. Nothing. It is just a gimmick. It's not even a McGuffin. It gives us nothing to understand the stakes of the situation. In fact, the stakes of the war, as it effects ordinary people, aren't spelled out. These are horrible films!
@MaxxTheMerciless Ordinarry people as arghumentum af populum and the revenge isd only a hinted background e;lement they masin motivbations are power aforcing their voews on other with supressioon.
@reviewreviewer1 Argument ad populum, as the saying goes. You're way overmatched here, do you realize that? Wow.
Revenge for WHAT? Even Jaws The Revenge had more substance than this piece of shit. Sorry, idiot. I'm sorry. Would you like some candy? I know it must be hard. How about a hug?
@reviewreviewer1 Let me explain further. If they just referred to Sidious, Maul, and Tyranus as Dark Side users, and nothing more, that would've been sufficient as far as the prequels were concerned. It blended nicely with the OT, since they didn't mention Sith at all. But now that you give them a name of significance to the Jedi, that requires some explanation, which didn't occur. Presenting a proper noun indicates a significant difference, and that is not explained. At all.
@MaxxTheMerciless No it is just a nane, whuich they should have hasd in the OT, but they are still the same orginsation doing an earlier step in the samne planm, the revdrnge thing is secondarry and mah therefowe be an ibterpatable element, btw thanks for now arguing peacefully wirthout trolling.
@reviewreviewer1 Let me explain your stupidity. You claim that the Empire is the Sith, therefore the Sith are explained. You have basically said that the Stormtroopers, the Imperial Navy, the Senate, and the Republic Citizens now Imperial Citizens, are all Sith. In essence, you said the red lightsaber is also the Sith. You can't see distinctions between one organization versus another, seeing the incidental aspects as equivalents. All that just flew right over your head, no doubt.
@reviewreviewer1 I mean, seriously. Do you remember when I told you that establishing an empire was actually a bit redundant for Palpatine to do because he already had control, even before he became Chancellor? No? I guess not, because you're autistic.
The Empire is incidental to the Prequels. We know they're going to happen, the question is why are the Sith doing all this. Who are the Sith? Why do they want revenge? None of that is explained.
@MaxxTheMerciless Oke why did the empire do the thingfs in the OT, they followed the Sith so what applies to them applues to the Suith, checkmate, also Psalpatine isnm`t in control ge needed emergency powers whivh were temporal to make deciaions and often got questiones by the Jedi.
@MaxxTheMerciless Why did the emperials want to consodiliate the empiere in the OT they were klead by the Sith fropnm the prequels so the same motivations applty so eiother bothj are good or bth are bad rhis is prooven unless you responbd to this properly it will sgain confiorm you are a troll.
@reviewreviewer1 No, you have not. Who are the Sith? Why do they hate the Jedi, and no, do not say because of religious differences? There has to be more than that! Why do they want revenge? You have yet to answer any of this. They are not developed at all!
Cite evidence! Give me the dialogue where they tell us who the Sith are!
@MaxxTheMerciless The Sith is the empire and you say the empire is ewvil, I call you a troll cause you insult people for analysing movies differently you are a troll. troll.
@reviewreviewer1 No, I call you an idiot because you do not comprehend logic, complex concepts, or anything else that normal adults do. See, you're so inexperienced that the mere notion of the Trade Federation actually being the ones wanting a tax to crowd out others flies right over your head means you're an idiot. You're an idiot.
That demonstrates everything about you. You seem to just reflexively go toward what you "think" is obvious. No. It isn't. So, quit sucking on your mom's tit
@MaxxTheMerciless The Sith ARE THOSE WHO TRAIN IN THE DARKSIDE OF THE FORCE WE KNOW THUIS BASED ON WHO THEY CALL SITH, HOSE WHO UISE THE DARKSIDE OF the force and based on that there are 2 AND THERE also happen to be 2 dRKSIDE USERS.
@reviewreviewer1 You got the 2 users there, but WHO ARE THEY? WHY ARE THEY? WHY DO THEY WANT REVENGE? Just being dark side users IS NOT ENOUGH. Tell me why they hate the Jedi. Tell me why there are only two. Tell me why.
You can't answer that. You're like an autistic child who's read a story about a man with a hat killing another man with a hat, and calling that good enough. No, I'm sorry, but for those who actually CAN think, that's not good enough.
@MaxxTheMerciless I don`t agree with your lack of understanding of subtlety and double standards tell me what we knew of the empire more then of the Sith, both have the main motivations to suypport the empiree the sith byu creatimng it cause both want power, both are supressive and both want to force their qways on the galaxy, the Sith lead the empire in the OT so everything whivh aploied to the empire aplies to them, also you are a troll for co,mparing moe to an authist, so but the Sith and....
@reviewreviewer1 Wrong. We don't know anything about the Sith, apart from the notion that they're supposed to be the bad guys. We don't know anything about the Trade Federation apart from the notion that they're supposed to be the bad guys. We're told, not shown, that they're bad, therefore they must be bad. But we have no way of knowing just what the problems of this so-called crisis is. You just swallow that as though it were candy and think nothing of it. Autistic people do that.
@reviewreviewer1 I mean, seriously. Seriously. What is the matter with you? Can't you admit that the Prequels were horrible films? Why can't you? Everyone else has. We've moved on. You haven't. Why not?
@reviewreviewer1 Let me help you out. This is the only information the prequels have on the Sith: Palpatine is a Sith, that they use the Dark Side of the Force, that they want revenge against the Jedi, and desire their extermination. That's it.
I defy you to add to this, based on evidence cited on screen. Just having reviewed it, you won't be able to. There is nothing else.
@MaxxTheMerciless Yes we do they like the empire in the OT was power they want to turn the republic into an empire from a lust for power, they also opose the Jedis views, and what to obviously exterminate the,m in a way of fprcing their views on the world.
this is a movie where every single scene is stupid... every single actor is bad... every line of dialogue is unintelligent babble.. no it does not fucking look good.. it looks like it is... absolute shit.. this movie is the equivilant of the screen taking a shit...on the audience...a shit compiled of utter stupidity...in fact its so stupid and utterly bad it makes me wonder what if any george lucas had to do with the originals... it looks like he ripped that off a smarter individual
Ten minutes??? no way!! that (agreed >) 'coma of a race' was ONLY ten minutes??? its the most boring part of the movie by far and I could have SWON it was like twenty minutes at BARE minimum!!! It is SO boring, I HATE that part even more than the rest of the movie. SCREW that race!! and GREAT point btw - what kinda Jedi are these??? They dont care about saving the slaves but yet seperate a CHILD from his - oh I dunno, MOTHER at the tender age of like TEN! What was Lucas on??DO over, reboot PLZ
there are so many times where you contradict the movie saying it makes no sense or something where it clearly does "and what is a sith, a race?" basically you could have said, what is a jedi? a race or something *facepalm*
@33LB, the OT basically emphasized the light side vs the dark side. The prequels do not paint the light side Jedi as very noble as Obi Wan reminisced in Ep 4. If they only perform or even suggest helping slaves when there is some kind of compensation, that's kind of dark side school of thought. Anakin had no idea his mother was sold until he grew up which is hard to buy, considering how painful the separation was supposed to be and the resources the Jedi order had.
in response to the question about why the jedi don't free the slaves-
probably because the republic hasn't given them the authority, or paid them anything to do so. in the real world, people don't do things for free- police officers don't fight crime unless they are paid for it, and likewise, the jedi haven't done anything with tatooine because they haven't been contracted by the republic to do so. i would imagine the jedi only do what the republic authorises, and pays them, to do.
@33LB Anakin, the former slave, could've told the Jedi about the slaves and Tattoine take it to the senate and do something about it. "The Jedi only do what the republic authorizes them to do," would've been that if Anakin did tell them. And they get paid to do so, that only adds one more reason why I despised the Jedi in the prequels for being idiots.
@angelbattler if you've seen the film, then you would know that the republic was well aware of the situation of tattoine- they didnt need anakin to tell them anything. the reason why nothing was done is because the republic simply does not care, in the same way that western nations care little about corruption in other countries.
the jedi are not a charity group. the republic has to pay them for their services. obviously, the jedi were not contracted to do anything about tattoine.
sorry but you statement is wrong. the jedi are not allowed to take families and friends, because what anakiin said in episode 2 is, posession is forbidden, attachment is forbidden. and second the republic has no control of tatooine.
Thing is, Darth Plagueis created Anakin and that's why he didn't have a father. He manipulated mediclorians by being strong in the dark side. The sith had planned this and knew anakin would turn to the dark side. Star Wars Rocks!!!!
@AlexAmericaisAwesome The thing is if your just a movie-goer and don't know or care about the expanded universe there is no way to know this and that's how Matthew is.
@ThePS1fan Good point, I just think that there are things that Matthew exaggerates on and they can be understood if you think about it, but I also he has great points and there are some things in star wars that don't make sense.
Plinkett is funnier but I think they both point out so many amazing flaws. It's like, suddenly I know and understand why these films seem so god awful bad. Thanx guys! And oh yah, confusedmatthew should also have pizza rolls to send people!

Jedi- light side a jedi council member says "The sith have been extiinct for a millennium", windu says "I do not believe the sith would return without us knowing it " and they all seem surprised by there return and Mual says "at last we will have revenge" obviously the Jedi must had killed them off so know they want revenge.
starwarsboy7705 4 weeks ago
@starwarsboy7705 But that's never explained fully in any of them. In the 3rd it's never brought up as to why they want revenge, he just does it and poof, done.

the fact that anakin was conceived by the midi-chlorians does add something to the character. Lucas was trying to convince us that this guy was different and special, it explains why he has so many midi-chlorians, and its what makes him the chosen one, the force chose him, so therefore it also created him with the midi-chlorians.
starwarsboy7705 4 weeks ago
@starwarsboy7705 But the midi-chlorians was such an ass-pull and took away the spiritual essence that made Jedi. I agree with Matt on this about the midi-chlorians was a selective process thing.

Why didn't Qui-gon and Obi-wan just call some other Jedi or republic official to pick them up.
If your car breaks down, and you can't get the part you need, you usually just call someone to pick you up.

@charlesvan13 they can't communicate with anyone or else the trade federation will trace the message to tatooine and find them, and capture the queen.
starwarsboy7705 4 weeks ago
@charlesvan13 Why didn't they just trade their ship in for a functional ship? Or we could've had a nice call back to the original trilogy where they hire a transport ship and give them the republic credits. While Watto might not want the credits, the transport pilot probably would want them since they travel.
MetalMarioFist 2 weeks ago

@charlesvan13 the jedi have a responsibility not to squander the republic's resources.
therefore, the preferred option would be to obtain the part and repair the ship by themselves rather than wasting the republic's time.
33LB 1 week ago
@charlesvan13
actually it is because the jedi are in the coucil not only to feel the force but to send the jedi which he/she is chosen, and the force also bind the galaxy together. second, the republic is very busy in disputing about the crisis in Naboo.
tmMcHugh 4 days ago
@charlesvan13 Because Qui-Gon said via communicator "It's too dangerous to call for help." He and Obi-Wan knew, or at least sensed, through Sio Bibble's transmission that the Trade Federation could have tracked their location had they responded in any way. Although they DID have that option.

...Matthew, I have a question. Much as I like your work, and as much as you uncover a lot of the HUGE flaws in the prequel movies, what is so damned hard for you to get about the Sith essentially being the opposites to the Jedi? And in case you don't get it, allow me to show you...
Jedi = Light Side
Sith = Dark Side
IT'S THAT SIMPLE!!!

@Jygerthe2nd Truth. But we still dont know why are they so pissed, why they want revenge for something, or how it works. I mean, couldnt they just made 15 seconds long scene with Qui-gon saying "Yeah, there was a war, they lost blah blah".

elite01171 5 months ago
The thing I'll disagree with Matthew on is the Sith. Its obvious they are the opposites of the Jedi and their idea's and beliefs are extinct (or thought to be), and it was the Jedi who whipped them out (or almost did). In A New Hope, Obiwan says "now the Jedi are all but extinct." Now I don't like the concept of the Sith since they weren't in the original series, but here, just what they are seems pretty self explanatory.
southparkfan2717 5 months ago
@southparkfan2717 It may be "obvious," but the problem is that they're not explained too much. The Jedi were explained. The Sith were not. Why do they hate the Jedi? Why do they want revenge? Why do they only have two when three or more would do much better? Why do they embrace the Dark Side? These are not explained.
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
They embrace the darkside cause they belive in power and hatred and anger. Them wanting revenge is only their second motivation, there main motivation is that they want to take over the repub.ic in turn it into an empire, because they want power and force their believes on the galaxy, the same the empire which they started did in the original trilogy. Also the msin reason they hate the Jedi us because they have oposed political and religious views, the revenge thing is just a secobdarry element.
reviewreviewer1 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 All of that you did not, at all, get from the film. None of that was explained, or shown. You made it all up.
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@MaxxTheMerciless They are constantly working on starting the empire, Palpatine talks of the meaning of power, in V and VI they try to get Lukw too give into hate, etc. Also if the Sith were underdevelopped in th prequels the darkside users wrre also undevelopped in the OT.
reviewreviewer1 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 Again, you made all that up. All of that can be interpreted in all kinds of ways. Without specifics on who the Sith are, why they want revenge, and what their goals are, they're not a good villain. This is somewhat forgivable in the Original Trilogy because the villains weren't the Sith, but the Empire. But the Prequels don't have an Empire, so the elements at play to make the Sith a viable villain must be established. Quit making things up.
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@MaxxTheMerciless They established in the OT the emperor ad vader were lkeading the empire and here they ar trying to create it we see that in their actions.b Palpatine talks in II about power in such a way we know he is obseesed by it and he sais he wants the Sith to rule, that they then force their w=ays o others we know from the OT. Also why some embrace the darkside was made obvious in the OT they believe in anger and hatrwed and also to beliefve something you need no reason.....
reviewreviewer1 5 months ago
@MaxxTheMerciless Also Palpatine makes it clear in his conversation with Anakin he oposes the Jedis views and he mursders al of them so hes reason is obvious it is quite obvious anyways since they have oposinmg views.
reviewreviewer1 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 Also, all Palpatine made "clear" is that he has a problem with the Jedi, more likely because they can thwart his plans. But what isn't clear is his motivations. What isn't clear is why he wants revenge, why he wants a Galactic Empire versus a Republic that does what he wants them to do anyway. You read a lot of things into this film that really aren't there. That is why you fail.
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@MaxxTheMerciless Nio I told you where I based it on and you ifnore that so you are trolling Mike. Also he made iot clear he disagrees with the Jedi. Also again the rfevenge was a secondarry motivations the msin goals were clear they wanbt to start an empire to rule obviusly bnwcause they love power and because they wantto force their ideas on others as we saw in the OT and th lust for power we sawe in both films.
reviewreviewer1 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 It is you that's trolling. Explain this "lust for power." Explain just why he disagrees with the Jedi. Explain why he wanted revenge. But one rule: Only cite your source from the films.
You won't be able to.
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 In that conversation, Palpatine doesn't make anything "clear." He doesn't say he opposes the Jedi views. He may not necessarily agree, but he doesn't say anything about any opposition. See what I mean? You are making things up. You lose.
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@MaxxTheMerciless had a simplisttidc view of things and that one must look at the great mystery from all perspectives.
reviewreviewer1 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 Listen to those conversations again. None of what they talked about had really very little to do with the Sith directly. They never addressed them, who they are, their motivations, their goals, their philosophy, and we do know that Palpatine is very deceptive. This wasn't being simplistic, this was being mysterious, but not in a good way. Giving the audience nothing to understand who our villain is and why he does what he does is not good storytelling.
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@MaxxTheMerciless .. the empire are the same so if the prequels are bad so is the OT Al;so why do I have to accept they are bad it is just your opinion and most people like the prequels. aAlso you simpily want things to be overly obvfious insead of subtle an ignore obvious things. Taxes cost moneey if they tax tradre this cfosts the traders money so they are againast taxes, why wouild thry hsve to be asny more obvious also, you are a coward you talk to me while you blocked me. Also...
reviewreviewer1 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 No, the Empire is NOT the same as the Sith. The Empire is something we can see, we know they're evil - they blow up planets! At no time, ever, is the word "Sith" even mentioned once in the OT. But, since in the Prequels, there is no Empire, but they mention this Sith, we need more information. It's not enough for any sane, reasonable thinking person to just swallow that Palpatine is a Sith without knowing who the Sith are, and why they do what they do.
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 And no, it's not opinion. It is fact. I know what good films look like, and none of the Prequels are good films. And no, I don't need things necessarily to be obvious, but some things do need explaining especially when you're making a film set in a purely fictional setting. You can't seem to grasp that. It's not enough to just say the Sith are the bad guys, and call that good. Good movies do more than that. They establish the stakes, which the Prequels never did.

@MaxxTheMerciless I answered your questions Mike. and wow YOU CLAIMN YOUR OPINIONS ON FILMS ARE FACT, WOW HOW AROGANT. Also autistic people dom`t rtandomly swalow things there are many forms of authism and that you get so iunsulting is trolling troll, I proofes how the Sith were explained so give up facist troll.
reviewreviewer1 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 They are fact. Not opinion. Good films follow certain criteria, all of which Lucas failed to meet. He did not establish the stakes of the situation in the prequels well, we don't care about the characters, or the dilemma they're presented with, and the antagonists are not defined. When you grow up, maybe you'll see what I'm talking about.
Autistic people, like you, grab onto a concept and never let it go. You repeat the same shit over and over. You're autistic.

reviewreviewer1 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 No, you did not. Those scenes did not explain anything! AT ALL!
Your language comprehension is a joke! If you got an explanation of the Sith and who they were, why they hate the Jedi, why they want revenge, you are on some serious drugs.
You can lift the word Sith out of the Prequels and it would change nothing. It has no significance to anyone, no bearing on the story, nothing. It is a cheap plot device, which you obviously cannot understand.
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@MaxxTheMerciless I explained how they did. The revenge was onl secondarry theior main plan was to take over threw vuiolence cause they anted power and to forcew their rule on the gslaxy wih suspression we know this cause they will orser the enmpire to do what the yd did in the OT and they whipe out those with differemt views. The Siuth name is a namwe which orginaationa have end of story.
reviewreviewer1 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 Then why did they mention it? Why did they mention they wanted revenge? See, that's important. They needed to explain that. They needed to show their motivation. Power, in and of itself, is not enough. By virtue of the fact you can't seem to grasp that means you're an idiot. Idiots can't grasp complex ideas. Power must always have a goal.
The goal was, really, the elimination of the Jedi, which brings us back to our two questions: Who are the Sith, and why...cont...
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@MaxxTheMerciless So9rry but if a goal isn` enhough the emire in the OT had no motivation either, ppower is nice it means you have influyence and they extarminated the Jedi cause of different view, the revenge was mentioned as an intetpastable element to only be implie which since it is secondarruyy is cooil.
reviewreviewer1 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 Wrong. The OT is really a separate entity from the PT. The Empire had goals, and was not, at all, connected with anything called the Sith. Sure, you might say that Palpatine was a Sith, but who cares? Because they didn't explain who and what they were, Sith has no real function other as a distraction for morons out there. The Prequels only tried to match the results that the Empire had become, and failed miserably.

CAN YOU GRASP THIS?
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago

Sith is a cheap plot device. It serves nothing to the story. Nothing. It is just a gimmick. It's not even a McGuffin. It gives us nothing to understand the stakes of the situation. In fact, the stakes of the war, as it effects ordinary people, aren't spelled out. These are horrible films!

@reviewreviewer1 Also........do you notice how it is I"M the only one here coming up with abstract thought and analysis? Not you?
HMMM?
You're autistic, dude.
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 Let me explain further. If they just referred to Sidious, Maul, and Tyranus as Dark Side users, and nothing more, that would've been sufficient as far as the prequels were concerned. It blended nicely with the OT, since they didn't mention Sith at all. But now that you give them a name of significance to the Jedi, that requires some explanation, which didn't occur. Presenting a proper noun indicates a significant difference, and that is not explained. At all.
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@MaxxTheMerciless No it is just a nane, whuich they should have hasd in the OT, but they are still the same orginsation doing an earlier step in the samne planm, the revdrnge thing is secondarry and mah therefowe be an ibterpatable element, btw thanks for now arguing peacefully wirthout trolling.
reviewreviewer1 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 Let me explain your stupidity. You claim that the Empire is the Sith, therefore the Sith are explained. You have basically said that the Stormtroopers, the Imperial Navy, the Senate, and the Republic Citizens now Imperial Citizens, are all Sith. In essence, you said the red lightsaber is also the Sith. You can't see distinctions between one organization versus another, seeing the incidental aspects as equivalents. All that just flew right over your head, no doubt.
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 I mean, seriously. Do you remember when I told you that establishing an empire was actually a bit redundant for Palpatine to do because he already had control, even before he became Chancellor? No? I guess not, because you're autistic.
The Empire is incidental to the Prequels. We know they're going to happen, the question is why are the Sith doing all this. Who are the Sith? Why do they want revenge? None of that is explained.
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@MaxxTheMerciless Oke why did the empire do the thingfs in the OT, they followed the Sith so what applies to them applues to the Suith, checkmate, also Psalpatine isnm`t in control ge needed emergency powers whivh were temporal to make deciaions and often got questiones by the Jedi.
reviewreviewer1 5 months ago
@MaxxTheMerciless Why did the emperials want to consodiliate the empiere in the OT they were klead by the Sith fropnm the prequels so the same motivations applty so eiother bothj are good or bth are bad rhis is prooven unless you responbd to this properly it will sgain confiorm you are a troll.
reviewreviewer1 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 No, they don't. That does not follow if the Sith are not explained.
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 Also, moron, learn to write, so that your autism doesn't show.
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 So if you want to stop being an idiot, then learn. Be a student. Maybe you'll learn something. I don't think so, though.
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 Scratch that. It's clear you're autistic. Teaching you would be like training a squirrel to sing.
You've yet to prove anything.
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@MaxxTheMerciless Oh we are gonna insult, oke, hey I p;rroofed the Sith were welldevelopped and the same as the empire, so give up.
reviewreviewer1 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 No, you have not. Who are the Sith? Why do they hate the Jedi, and no, do not say because of religious differences? There has to be more than that! Why do they want revenge? You have yet to answer any of this. They are not developed at all!
Cite evidence! Give me the dialogue where they tell us who the Sith are!
You can't!
It does not exist!
You have not proven anything!
You lose. Good day!

@MaxxTheMerciless The Sith is the empire and you say the empire is ewvil, I call you a troll cause you insult people for analysing movies differently you are a troll. troll.
reviewreviewer1 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 No, I call you an idiot because you do not comprehend logic, complex concepts, or anything else that normal adults do. See, you're so inexperienced that the mere notion of the Trade Federation actually being the ones wanting a tax to crowd out others flies right over your head means you're an idiot. You're an idiot.
That demonstrates everything about you. You seem to just reflexively go toward what you "think" is obvious. No. It isn't. So, quit sucking on your mom's tit
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@MaxxTheMerciless He was the main Sith.
reviewreviewer1 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 But, who is the Sith?
Where is that explained?
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@MaxxTheMerciless The Sith ARE THOSE WHO TRAIN IN THE DARKSIDE OF THE FORCE WE KNOW THUIS BASED ON WHO THEY CALL SITH, HOSE WHO UISE THE DARKSIDE OF the force and based on that there are 2 AND THERE also happen to be 2 dRKSIDE USERS.
reviewreviewer1 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 You got the 2 users there, but WHO ARE THEY? WHY ARE THEY? WHY DO THEY WANT REVENGE? Just being dark side users IS NOT ENOUGH. Tell me why they hate the Jedi. Tell me why there are only two. Tell me why.
You can't answer that. You're like an autistic child who's read a story about a man with a hat killing another man with a hat, and calling that good enough. No, I'm sorry, but for those who actually CAN think, that's not good enough.
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@MaxxTheMerciless I don`t agree with your lack of understanding of subtlety and double standards tell me what we knew of the empire more then of the Sith, both have the main motivations to suypport the empiree the sith byu creatimng it cause both want power, both are supressive and both want to force their qways on the galaxy, the Sith lead the empire in the OT so everything whivh aploied to the empire aplies to them, also you are a troll for co,mparing moe to an authist, so but the Sith and....
reviewreviewer1 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 Wrong.
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 I mean, seriously. Seriously. What is the matter with you? Can't you admit that the Prequels were horrible films? Why can't you? Everyone else has. We've moved on. You haven't. Why not?
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago
@reviewreviewer1 Let me help you out. This is the only information the prequels have on the Sith: Palpatine is a Sith, that they use the Dark Side of the Force, that they want revenge against the Jedi, and desire their extermination. That's it.
I defy you to add to this, based on evidence cited on screen. Just having reviewed it, you won't be able to. There is nothing else.
MaxxTheMerciless 5 months ago

Darth Timefiller LOL
Spot on!
Maybe that's why they made him look so scary - compensation for his lack of ANYTHING!
Redlettermedia's reviews and yours give all the reasons why these movies blow!
I would rather watch Transformers 2 again - it's shorter!
auritone 7 months ago
there are so many times where you contradict the movie saying it makes no sense or something where it clearly does "and what is a sith, a race?" basically you could have said, what is a jedi? a race or something *facepalm*
StaNwuzHERE 7 months ago

33LB 7 months ago

33LB 1 week ago
@angelbattler
sorry but you statement is wrong. the jedi are not allowed to take families and friends, because what anakiin said in episode 2 is, posession is forbidden, attachment is forbidden. and second the republic has no control of tatooine.

Thing is, Darth Plagueis created Anakin and that's why he didn't have a father. He manipulated mediclorians by being strong in the dark side. The sith had planned this and knew anakin would turn to the dark side. Star Wars Rocks!!!!

auritone 7 months ago
@AlexAmericaisAwesome The thing is if your just a movie-goer and don't know or care about the expanded universe there is no way to know this and that's how Matthew is.
ThePS1fan 6 months ago
@ThePS1fan Good point, I just think that there are things that Matthew exaggerates on and they can be understood if you think about it, but I also he has great points and there are some things in star wars that don't make sense.
AlexAmericaisAwesome 6 months ago
@AlexAmericaisAwesome That's still a stretch and it would not be comprehensible if explained in the movie.

Plinkett is funnier but I think they both point out so many amazing flaws. It's like, suddenly I know and understand why these films seem so god awful bad. Thanx guys! And oh yah, confusedmatthew should also have pizza rolls to send people!
