Im 24 and looking into doing a tour of trucking as a source of income until I feel like it and this just stinks. I want to be driving the big ole brawny petes and kens and western stars, with chrome pipes on the outside of the sleeper and a nice big flat hood and a 13 speed manual, etc. this kills my spirits. interesting idea tho
talk about unemployment! dude and where hurting now wait until then! we are getting lazyer and lazyer just wait pretty soon we will have something doing everything for us.
the only truck drivers left will be the alaskan ones.
I love it...great design, great features...im all in for sensors, computers, and automations on trucks, i really think this tehnology will bring more safety on the roads, and give the drivers some help and comfort.

Dear "mrcheekyface1", Drivers will still be needed because all these autopilot systems can not replace the human drivers in most of the real world driving conditions....at least not for the next 20-30 years or so....if we don't nuke ourselfs up by then. :)
Being a truck driver I have always thought how neat this concept would be. This would work perfectly for long trips. A road that is only for trucks once you enter it the computer would take over driver can then rest. Your on the right track Volvo keep it up. Less driver fatigue less accidents. I drove a VN 780 for 5 years loved it.
I am gonna play devils advocate here relating to the auto drive and it taking away jobs. When cars came around.. LOTS of carriage makers and horse trainers, and horse shoe makers, blacksmiths all went away.
You can't protect out dated industry only to protect jobs. Its more complicated than that. The car created lots of new jobs that did not exist before. The same will happen in the future. The key is to try and position yourself for the next big thing.. whatever it might be,

@MrCarnosus yes you have right...we run with another fuel, new engines etc...but already are some cars who make alone the parking, drive on bluetooth etc..many shit systems. I like the simple things, but the tehnology come up always.

Just change the engine / fuel and let us drive. Just going to be a pain to just sit there and watch it drive by itself. Think many truckers agree with me.

Also, we should remove brake assisting and traction control systems, cruise control, to hell with airbags and seatbelts, those are only dead weight. @MrCarnosus i think that what hapends in this moment in the all world, will next a revolution maybe, the economy in many states will down and is need of uman force to work as to survive and without transports we are death, i think cannot to do a robot a good delivery than a people, that is just in the vision of some technician's which think in the future that will be as before, but the things not seems to be same. I hope and i waiting, i leave the time to pass.

@mrcheekyface1 the person who's in the front drives and the other trucks follow by sensors and when the front driver gets tired it falls to the back of the pack and so forth, is it really that hard to understand? What I'm foundering about is why there isn't that much aerodynamics design in the front for MPG efficiency, I mean its flat almost.

Soviet Union had something similar it looked like it was from 2030 but it was designed in 1980s in Soviet Union. Duo to the collaps the design was appolished and never really went into mass production which it was intended too instead only one or a few trucks where made

They're designed for western Europe and are perfect to drive on their highways.
If you're a trucker you know well enough that they will always send the right truck for the job.
These trucks will just leave their cargo at the borders and head back with a new load.
They won't have to leave the highways, cause that's what they're designed for. It's impossible for long truck combinations like these to travel through small European roads.

what happens with the other trucks on 1:00? the driver is sleeping and the truck should follow but it does not do it. I dont like to have trucks like that!
Meritor and Eaton already have collision avoidance system working on trucks right now. Meritor's being the much more useful of the two it looks around the corner as the wheels turn.
Eatons autoshift 18spd transmissions clutch and shift on their own now and I haven't heard any trucker complain because it wasn't any fun. Just a step in trucks driving themselves

Meritor and Eaton already have collision avoidance system working on trucks right now. Meritor's being the much more useful of the two it looks around the corner as the wheels turn.
Eatons autoshift 18spd transmissions clutch and shift on their own now and I haven't heard any trucker complain because it wasn't any fun. Just a step in trucks driving themselves
