Samurai fight ROCKS! Do you guys know Hagakure? It's a wonderful book about the samurai's vision of life. Amazing, I suggest all who read this to read that book.
Oh yeah thats perfect. Turn the sound on this video off and listen to naruto ost 1 nine tail demon fox, even if you dont like naruto, and start it playing just befor the one in black starts charging. that sets a much more intence and aporporiate atmosphere then the music that plays in this vidio dose
I like this one, my one problem is, though honestly I don't know how you would do this without slipping up and seriously hurting each other. The swords just kinda "tapped: each other. None of your strikes seemed to realistically portray the intent to kill, which would make a much louder sound. (Though I still wouldn't want to be hit by a katana swung lightly either)
Wow, that's cool how you can do that without slipping up and hitting your friend! Lol I like how fast you were swinging at eachother too, more realism. Thumbs up for sure
I thought the choreography was good, but the emotional intensity of the fight wasn't convincing enough for me. it would have been cooler if the samurai in black showed more bloodlust and sakki (the intent to kill). I'm also not sure if this is a differing stylistic thing between sword styles, but both guys' elbows stuck out a tad bit during their Hasso-no-kamae. Other than those few things, I thought you guys did a good job. Sorry for being a critical youtube prick! I enjoyed this a lot though
@CircleOfFifz I found it hard to feel the intent to kill with the music as well, part of it is it was to quiet, I also thought they didnt use the sharp edge of the katana to deffend as they were doing here, didnt they use the flate side and soft edge, since hitting with the cutting edge would have destoyed thoes blades, I also would have also looked a lot better if they were using the soft edge and the side to defend, apart form that it was cool
Are you really repeating the same few moves? 1:23-1:33 is almost comedy. I have never done any movie even close to this but this flaw is obvious guys.
Back in the day these duels ussually didn't last even 10 seconds. I'm guessing I'm either watching two novice samurai or crazy Musashi skilled ones lol.
Very entertaining. It would be cool if you could find a forested area to duel next time.
dude fuckin awesome... im very high right now and i was lookin for a good ninja vs samurai battle... this vid came up and it was awesome (unlike some of the other ones)... keep it up
It might have been better if it was not just the same move sequence repeated over and over. And come on, a parking lot? There have to be better places to have a Samurai showdown. :DD
MAN!! but why in the world you did not use a better environment, Had not you an nature envirnment such as park if not a forest or a beach? Would have been perfect!!
This isnt how a Samurai fight would go lol, the fight would of been over within the first 4 moves usually >_> unless both samurai aren't resolved to killing eachother lol than it might last longer
not hardly, there would be much more to a 'true fight' in a situation like this it would be considered a duel and they would actually bow to each other and go though kobudash and certainly wouldnt be blocking with their blades, they woudl use the side to perry
@buzzycomics Ninja did exist, just not in the grade everyone looks at them. They were just normal assassins. I don't quite understand how they got in their head that there were so damn many of them, or that ''overnatural warrior'' thing though...
@buzzycomics though eight months ago , your post still irritates me. the mythical ninja of legend aren't real. the true ninja were farmers and carpenters who being tired of living the oppressive city life where one would often need paperwork to go to even another part of town , decided to live on their own. The fact that so many people obsess about the legendary ninja is because of an intelligent dispersion of Misinformation. illusion if you will , the true art of ninjutsu is quite valid.
@buzzycomics ummm being a ninja myself I take offense to that >.> however it is true that a fight scene with a ninja is somewhat unrealistic being that ninjas rarely engaged in open combat. And the way you see them in movies is just as crappy masked wielders of hollywood swords who do lots of backflips. from experience I can tell you this, the less showing off you do. the better. so yeah just a little insight on your comment...
the romans had big ole shields to block the strikes from longer barbariab swords, if they(romans) had no shields, they would not have been so effective, against the longer swords.
I'm not sure, but I have a felling that white guy is one ot two kyu above black, his technique was faster and much more accurate. Yet I'm not sure about it.
Um, they avoided blade on blade contact. Forget all the mystic "cutting of anything" crap, it's a sword, hit it hard against something and it will chip. So yes, they used the backsides. Also, they were only used ritualistically or in duels. You have got to be a moron to bring a sword in hand on a battlefield. A spear or a pike are much more indicated; range, durability, better against light armored opponents.
lol so wrong... samurai never blocked an opponents attack with the cutting edge of the blade. they would quickly and swiftly block with the spine (back) of the blade! thought u might want to no lol
@harro170 but they blocked with the side of the blade so the attack would slide off and cound counter easily. the back of the blade was softer so it would leave a dent in the back making the blade even less shatter resistant if it was hit by the enemy blade.
This was actually very good I am impressed. I take kenjutsu I have taken it for plenty of years and realised that there is a very weird flick in the wrist in shin kendo why is that
Well choreographed and filmed, but a real fight would last two to three moves... Four max. Of course that doesn't make for much of a film, so well done, :).
I have to agree with some of the people here, I thought it would be trash when I first saw it, then as I watched it I realized how skilled these guys are handling their swords. NICE JOB!
i was expecting trash when i saw it was amatuer made but really good well done lol im glad you brought one of the many rooftop samurai showdowns to life.but seriously that was pretty sick
Your left hand is wrong, black sandal-samurai. It must be at the end of the sword, not in the middle. Remeber this thing when you'll do the next video :)
No, you was not holding it at the end the entire time, but i can understand you, the movements are very fast and cinematographic, and it i difficult to hold the sword in the very right way.
that waz like retarted if samurai actually did that theyed hit so hard that one of the swords wood uh fell into peices and those swords r at trueswsord
what? nobody is strong enough to break a bladein half by slashing at it. no human anyway. and if they were, then the excessive force would come crashing down into the ground and create a 11 inch deep crack in the ground. this isnt anime if you were to stupid to notice.
Stilownin i would have to disagree with that statement. People have broken blades in half by striking one another. It's been throughout all of history.
Hell, my brother broke his blade (no cheapy keep in mind) on a tree about a month ago. He wanted to test its limits and actually cut a 9 inch diameter tree in half with two slashes. Though he tried on another tree once more and snapped his blade in half.
That was on a wooden tree, now think if he tried the same on a steel blade.
I actually will have to agree with you Nelson. The very "hollywood" style slashing and batting aimlessly just to create a show is nothing of a true Samurai.
The thoughts of real samurai were to be a 'one hit, one kill' motive, not swinging around making it a circus for people to watch.
Then again they don't claim it to be historically accurate or even say that's what they were going for. It's just a simple video for entertainment so they still deserve some for the effort and entertainment.
The fight music is from the movie Hero. Also it would have been cool to have a bit of fake blood in the final cut. Brave of them to use real swords tho.All in all i give it 4/5.peace out
why did you give me bad rep on ere about 4 months a go . you think ya good at your sword work do ya you cant even block with the sword you use the bk of the blade ant the cutting edge . and for ya bad rep i call you out lets see how good your sword work really is . coz you would only last 5 seconds with me . gaz from the bujinkan ninpo kai,
Last strike was so like "Dante vs Vergil". I still cant get it why they need to make such a high attack, its obvious that their enemy will see that comming and will in lower parts of their body.
They over did it just a little, BUT, the ending moves in most sword fights are 'why didn't that guys see it coming' style cuts. A lot of fighting is about getting your opponent to react to things and then doing the other, so it looks like they died dumb, but they where mislead. That said, the actor could have done a head fake before ducking for the killing stroke :)
Annoyingly bad sword work, despite the uninformed comments to the contrary. Too many edge to edge parries, and no kendo practitioner would do the same move four times in a row.
Far more interesting than an amateur swordfight would be the character back-story ... explain how two guys in non-traditional samurai garb come to be on top of a parking garage.
And while we're on the subject of costumes ... nice sandals.
and why bother making such an intricate duel between two samurai in the first place? That's not how samurai fought.
The point was to kill your opponent with a single strike, I'd rather watch one samurai ripping through multiple enemies in a more realistic fashion than watch two nondescript teenagers clash swords for 5 minutes.
what makes me mad about movies they make katanas loost loose and flimse light and break able with one slash but i own won there lightly havy they dont break they are hard to control...... thats all
Samurai fight ROCKS! Do you guys know Hagakure? It's a wonderful book about the samurai's vision of life. Amazing, I suggest all who read this to read that book.

And yes, I did see that you're claiming these guys are shinkendo students, but that doesn't change the fact that the sword work is crap.

Go watch a Kurosawa film.
Interesting if you're a teenager, maybe.

I have to agree the sword work sucks balls majorly.

and why bother making such an intricate duel between two samurai in the first place? That's not how samurai fought.
The point was to kill your opponent with a single strike, I'd rather watch one samurai ripping through multiple enemies in a more realistic fashion than watch two nondescript teenagers clash swords for 5 minutes.
