  • Thank you to who ever uploaded this ! Two of the greatest blues artists that ever and will ever live together on one stage! thank you guys for blessing this world with yalls presents !

  • I cannot beleive that these giants actually played 45 minutes from where I live.

  • Stevie and Albert! Together! Incredible.

  • stevie is albert king "student" ...

  • steve ray vaughan was the best in blues:)

  • during the last several bars of albert's solo stevie is just staring at his hands...albert's i mean. he looks like a little kid who just met a superhero. awesome.

  • I'd like to see that, is there video of that here?!

  • i can do that... na not really

  • Even if it is useless to make another "omg this is epic" comments because they are already 800 people saying it, i got to say something 'cause the song is just so...

    like WOW

Just play it one more time, can't hurt

  • The respect King shows to Vaughan in these sessions is nothing short of remarkable considering Albert's reputation for being difficult to work with. Stevie held back for the most part during this track, but King was always awed by Stevie's talents. During one show together, where Stevie was just devastatingly good, just destroying the place, King actually unplugged his guitar, put it behind his amps, and told it, "Baby, you don't need to be seeing this." Vaughan was THAT good.

  • @scottcampbell1958 Where can I find a copy of that tape?????

  • @Tyman514 To my knowledge, I don't think any tape of it exists. I've read about it several times and it's discussed on at least one YouTube video that I'm aware of. Type in SRV and "Antones".

  • @scottcampbell1958 that is rock n roll badboy!! love it

  • where do you think he learned it from ?

  • @scottcampbell1958 another mark of king's respect is of him listening to steve and playing backup for him something he did not do a lot !

  • Love this

  • haha yes King is loving it at the start!

  • steve, was great, him was teching from whom?anny ideas

  • Albert it's full of sweat '_'

  • @WhiteDwarf18 So what?

  • @Zenabirg

    Nothing..just saying...

  • man you can tell Albert is lovin this lolz

  • now that was a classic jam !!! thanks for posting this magic

  • at :54 king was like "DAYUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

  • I've never seen anyone make Albert sit there and smile! Cause Albert King didn't like any other guitar players...except Stevie, which is why Albert was Stevie's Godfather! It's such a shame these two aren't around anymore, and that they didn't play together that much :(

  • sicckkk!! i love stevie hes the shitt!!

  • As a guitar player, just wanted to point out that a lot of the lack of speed people refer to seems partly due to Albert playing with his fingers as opposed to a pick. Totally different tone and vibe the particulars of which most of the rest of us strive for.

  • You can see the reverence and respect in Stevie's face when talking to Albert. Very humble. We guitarists are all perpetual students after all aren't we.

  • Stevie could sing the blues. Not as many of those as there used to be ...

  • amazing. Stevie was Albert's biggest fan, and it's awesome to see Albert King rip it up on this song

  • Ok I quit guitar forever because if I can't ever even be 1/10000000th as good as SRV I don't want to even try!

  • do you think srv started off like that? nope. he was just as bad as everyone else when he began. just play the music that describes you, and people will listen

  • Albert King don't bother playing with speed cause he's to busy playing with soul :)

  • Stevie plays with just as much soul Stevie is the better than Hendrix and most everyone else including Albert and BB though I prefer Albert over BB

  • Now if this music doesn't make U want to get up n dance nothing will!!! Love it boyzz!

  • are the guitars are in e flat because i know stevie i always tunned down but i dont know if he is here

  • stevie´s guitar is

  • This is a great version of Pride and Joy.

  • its amazing how much stevie holds back on his guitar playing in these sessions. not sure if it was out of respect for albert or what. regardless thou its definitly a gift too have these few videos of stevie with his main idol.

  • I think it is out of respect but he should of showed albert what he had

  • thats so weird to watch those double stops being played up top like that , every time king hits a high note im like wtf

  • Albert got that lefty strung righty... upside down, with higher strings up top...

  • its actually a righty played lefty

  • Exactly! =)

  • It's great to see these two legends together. Their styles complement each other extremely well!

  • I didn't know Albert King was left handed.

  • Stevie Ray looked like a little boy who got to hang out with one of his heroes.

I also loved it when King says "what's that fast thing man that's got a heck of a groove". Never saw this before and can't wait to watch the rest of King & SRV.

  • chupenla!!!! aguante lo pibes chorro!!!!

  • I would have given anything to sit next to those guys with my guitar!!!!!

  • god its so nice to see how respectful he was

  • "Pride and Joy! Gimme some of that!"

    Epic.

  • Man what a humble man SRV was/is. Yep for his style the absolute best hands down. It's comical and funny to hear ppl babble that aint got a clue what they're yappin about.

  • two geniuses, plain and simple...

  • 2:28 explains it all

  • i read an interview w albert king in guitar player in which the interviewer asked if he played any chords, -

his answer was "nope - don't like 'em."

  • Stevie Ray Vaughan is the greatest blues guitar player in history, all other guitar players are nothing compared to him. I have the biggest respect for guys like Albert and B.B and the rest of them, but nobody compares to the magic, soul, intensity, passion, fire of Stevie Ray Vaughan. All you bitches saying he was a copycat have never even touched a guitar in your life. He is the real deal and played the blues better than anybody else on the planet. His vibrato and bendings are WOW!!!

  • A lot of us who have spent *years* listening to the blues (and who play guitar) do not happen to agree with you. Stevie was very good -of this there is no doubt. But he also ripped off most of his repertoire from other artists -particularly Albert King and Jimi Hendrix. He also had a tendency to overplay at times. And his vibrato was not as cultured as several other players I could mention. I could say more but you need to grow up first and learn to interact with those who do not agree with you.

  • I wouldn't say he ripped it, but he was heavily influenced by it and he never denied that. I don't think he overplays, and his vibrato isnt bad enough to be noticeable its just that with texas blues there isn't as much vibrato as in chicago blues. Just a style difference. I like stevie, but he's definately not the best guitarist...I'd give that title off to B.B., Buddy, Duane, or Page (i know cliche?)

  • Stevie Ray Vaughan is by far the greatest blues guitar player that ever lived, no Guy, Page can compare to him, nobody compares to him, btw. how can you say that there isn't many vibrato in Texas Blues? You obviously don't know a clue about the blues cause there is plenty of vibrato going in, Stevie had it and he had it better than any blues player in the history of music. He is the king of vibrato, bending, he is the king of soul, passion, fire, etc... 100% unique, one of a kind and special!

  • While I agree that he was great, I think that might be a bit of an overstatement.

  • i disagree about some of the points you made . While SRV along with Buddy Guy are my favs, Its impossible to say one is greater than the other. As far as Stevie ripping from other artists,if its the songs you speak off, thats paying respect to the greats, and if its licks your talkin about, you need to listen for a few more *years* cause no one played like that back then and no one can now. And I also play and grew up on the blues living in Lousiana

  • yeah, you cant really say who's 'better'. thats just comparing apples to apples. actually, thats simply straight-up opinion

  • without King, Stevie would never be that popular...

  • I love the arguments about who's better than who, but I can say I listen to just about every guitarist listed in the post and there is something great they all bring to the table.

THE ONE THING KILLING ME IS ALBERT TURNED THAT FLYING V OVER AND PLAYED IT LEFT HANDED UPSIDE DOWN!!

  • @steelfistIII

Thus why we have Lefties these days.

for guys like Albert King, Jimi Hendrix, and Paul McCartney.

  • @CCRockit

I think the V was a lefty, but it is strung upside down, small strings on top, heavy ones on the bottom of the neck. I played in a band with a guy that played bass like that. Crazy!!

  • @steelfistIII

I meant non flying V lefties.

  • @CCRockit

You are very right! I was just looking at the way Albert strings his guitar. I am a lefty myself, I just happen to play right handed. There is a wonderful selection of left handed guitars out these days.

  • Gibson Les Pauls, (too bad they're so damn expensive! lol) Fender Strats, etc

  • i think its a righty v but he plays it upside down cause thats how he learned

  • @brucefan181

The reason I say its a lefty is because of the knobs and pickup selector, but it is strung upside down. I played with a guy that did this. He does not use a pick either! My dad listened to a lot of AK, BB, Bobby Blue Bland when I was a kid. I turned him on to SRV several years ago, he enjoyed it.

  • wow nice solo by Albert!

  • Sorry guys, all that talk about whom is the greatest etc. Is this a fantastic duo or what...?!? Just enjoy, over and over again. May they both RIP and jamming in heaven. Peace to you all.

  • Excellent!!!

    Grandma mary

  • Both Jimi & Stevie's no 1 influence was Albert King.SRV used heavy gauge strings like AK & when he played DBowie's Lets Dance he said"I wanted to see how many places Albert's stuff fits" No one dared to sit down with AKing but when Stevie was 18 he walked up & played with AL.Albert loved him n his playing like his son.Beside that Jimi once said Both Albert King & Collins r the best Blues guitarist in the world.Awesome.

  • That is bullshit what you are saying.

  • what a true genius stevie was rip man

  • Man, these are two of the greats

  • Man I have never asked but what kind of guitar is Albert playing? If anyone can tell me it would be appreciated.

  • Gibson Flying V........awesome guitar

  • hey guys...maybe in the course of the discussion we've lost sight of the fact that we're watching Stevie and Albert have a rollicking good time playing Pride and Joy....that's it...just enjoy...!

  • what's all this bullshit about? u can't compare 2 gitplayers! can u compare 2 souls or characters? and by the way what are the criteria for being better? i every way subjective, yes, to the last note under your fingers and to the last fibre in your heart!

  • The student has surpassed the teacher.

  • grga888 - SRV was great - But He wasn't the greatest Blues guitarist ever.. Id say maybe Texas Blues Gurarist but then you have to include Freddy King. I think ti truly appreciate someone you should see them live I have and therefore base my (very subjective) opinion on that!

I also have to add Chris Duarte was great live too.

  • Excuse me, but read my comment again carefully. I said "greatest white man that ever played the blues". Get it? About Freddie King yeah, he is amazing, one of the three Kings, can't compare to Stevie though, but he is amazing. And sorry, but Chris Duarte can't be mentioned along with the guitar legends and guitar gods like Stevie, Jimi, etc... He is great, but please don't embarasse yourself with such thoughts, he is great, but you can't add him along with those guys, simply impossible.

  • grga888 - I don't embarass easily. I got to see SRV in his prime and before his prime as he battled personal Demons...He is my second favorite guitarist of all time (after Eddie Hazel). Chris Duarte has some amazing performances and great music. He's still growing. Look up "Chris Duarte 1992" here on Youtube and tell me what you think..

  • Stevie Ray Vaughan is way better than Albert King, and Albert knows it.

  • you know how I know you're a dipshiat ocarina. Well let's list the ways. At this point Stevie as only 30 years younger, he was sitting at his masters feet. And to boot, where in the fark do you think he got his sound? He ripped Albert off, Albert loved it, and he rock'n'rolled it up so he could be heard on the classic rock stations. Yes, Stevie could play faster than a 70 year old dude. What a douchebag you are.

  • Comment removed

  • Stevie Ray Vaughan became a better guitarist than Albert. Better tone, better soul, better everything. That's not to say Albert wasn't good.

  • how can you say better tone. That's subjective.

  • Don't try to use big words on me.

  • @Saygrace67 You're name should be Say Truth because everything you just mentioned is 100% correct. Albert King paved the way for SRV and Clapton, and if he had the recording opportunities during his prime that SRV and other more modern guitarists have today you could see for yourself how much he used to tear it up and how he controlled the flow of a jam.

  • Ocarina2boy - Musical taste is very subjective ...I could sit here and make a case for Albert Collins or Little Jimmy King being better than SRV. Most wouldn't feel that way but the case can be made.

  • Come on. It's blatantly obvious that Stevie has a lot more technical skill than any other blues guitarist, past or present. Plus he played with heavy strings, which no one else does, everyone plays with 009's or 010's. Stevie played with 013's, which would destroy any normal guitarists hands. But not Stevie. He is just better, there is no argument.

  • diablofreak. - I respect your opinion . I may even agree with it some days. Then I'll check out an old Freddie King video and I'm not so sure ...Bessides opinion is always subjective.

  • Stevie Ray Vaughan is the greatest white man that ever played the blues, a fact. He is easily overall the greatest blues guitar player that ever lived. He had a soul of a black man yet he could play with more feeling than any other guitar player in the world. Trully a remarkable musician which likes we will never ever see again.

  • [Stevie Ray Vaughan...is easily overall the greatest blues guitar player that ever lived. ]

No, its your opinion. Stevie stole 70% of his stuff from Albert King as well as various riffs from Jimi, Freddie King, Albert Collins, Hubert Sumlin, and others. He was an ace amalgamator of styles that is true but not an innovator. AK had better tone, better vibrato, used dynamics better, and I could go on and on. SRV had more speed, big whoop. If speed is what determines "greatest" talk to Gary Moore.

  • gary moore is anything but fast. talking spped there are a lot. but gary? vibrato yes.

  • He is the greatest and you're a jerk that knows nothing about the blues.

  • Can u imagine heaven!!! Stevie, Hendrix, Dimebag, Randy, Robert Johnson, Cliff, Morrison, Joplin, Bonham, Powell etc....God is having so much rocking fun!!!! ROCK AND ROLL!!!

  • any person who plays gutar must buy this cd the best blues album of all time

  • wow this is a great video i have the insesion cd i love it. infact in one of the songs after they play albert calls stevie his lil brown boy after they met albert said he was always like to him and had a special gift that no one else could have.. he made up his mind that the guitar was not going to master he masterd it and thats just what he did... i read the biography on stevie and he always had alot of good things to say about albert... RIP stevie and albert... you guys are my idols...

  • That's a sweet video! So great to see Albert King play with Stevie and DT. You notice Stevie giving Albert all the respect he deserves, giving him room to solo and just playing rhythm. And you know Albert could see the talent that Stevie had. What a gem!

  • DT don't play on In Session, it's Albert's band and Albert's show actually

  • If YouTube got hacked tomorrow and every video was deleted except for this one I'd still think YouTube was awesome.

  • Amen.

Albert was not a friendly man. Watching him melt in front of his mentee is priceless. So it watching him learn the song while it's being played.

So many comments here about who is better. The answer: You're asking the wrong question.

  • Man I think you just invented a word "mentee"!

  • Alberts guitar is a right-handed guitar, but he turns it over so its easier to solo.

  • No, this one is a gift from Billy Gibbons and it's a left handed, but his older flying v are right handed.

  • @MaddieIsDead : @AlexisGuitar94: This is a left-handed guitar, but he has it strung right-handed the way he always has strung his guitars. It does help some with bends some, but the main help with the bends is the way he tunes down 2 1/2 steps, cause there is more slack in the strings.

  • from what i know, 2 1/2 steps = a whole step

  • @jamcliff999 : You misunderstood what I was saying. I was saying 2 whole steps, plus a half step, but on going back to be sure that I had it right, I discovered that I had remembered my information wrong, and he tuned down one and a half steps, rather than two and a half steps. Sorry for the confusion and misinformation, and thank you for incenting me to get my information correct.

  • Why is Albert's guitar strung backwards??!!?!?!?! or is that just a right handed guitar....?

  • It's just his style, he learned to play that way, because he didn't have access to any left hand strung guitars, when he was learning.

  • Where are the knobs? Are they placed for right-handed guitar.

Albert King played the guitar upside down.

  • can it get any better ? i don't think so,

    my two heroes together !

  • You could tell SRV was like a kid at a candy store playing on stage with one of his biggest influences (I can't blame him). Just crazy to think that so many people would act the same way being on stage with SRV himself. Keep rockin people!

  • i like them ,but it seems that albert has the guitar a little out of tune

  • com'on that was PERFECT

  • Stevie has a funny sense of style haha. Anybody else notice that Albert's guitar is strung backwards?

  • Yes. If "rodeo clown" is a style.

  • @ckfootballman the reason is because he was used to playing a right handed guitar upside down and he never restrung it. so when he actually got a left handed guitar he had it restrung upside down because that was normal for him.

  • 2 guitar gods

  • Fantastic........love you Stevie and youll always be the sweetest thing. Missed by me and many around the world. x

  • Man I wish Albert King was up louder.

I love Stevie's playing, but Albert is the MAN.

  • Sorry, but Stevie is the MAN!

  • i agree

  • what you dum ass' fail to realize is neither one is the king the real kings of blues are blind with one finger an a thumb playin the same shit, so wake da fuck up wit who's better, trurh is you never heard of him but u keep talkin!!!

  • my band covers some of steves songs, lookout for videos in the near future

  • sorry man we hear 'em all the time. write your own tunes then i might be interested

  • lol Albert accidently hits his mic at 4:59, pretty funny

  • at 3:25 you can really see how stevie is studying alberts playing. awesome fucking guy!

  • music this good deserves to be played on the radio on a daily basis...........

  • exactly

  • Yeah, but sadly most of radio songs suck, it's all bad pop music like Britney or one of the other talentless bitches, more rock 'n' roll and blues on the radio would be sweet, totally sweeeet!!!!

  • yes yes! we have it in dallas!

  • srv is such a fuking god

  • ....eh, we dont talk video games on these videos.

  • Here, here!!

  • yeah BB king said SRV use to hold back whe playing out of respect...

  • ya can tell stevie holds back a bit because hes a cool kat...sweet session...

  • Al and Stevie WOW !!!

  • Music just ain't like this anymore! We miss you guys! THANKS FOR POSTING!

  • long live the blues!

  • GREAT STUFF...i have the cd, it's good to see the video...thanx for the show

  • bb is god and stevie is jesus

  • lol...

  • nothing but respect from srv.

  • both are great guitar players but in my opinion SRV is the best!

  • srv does have the upper hand in that he played the guitar the right way up. Dunno if you noticed but albert king plays lefted handed, with a right handed guitar upside, but unlike hendrix and that lot he hasnt swapped the strings around.

  • Priceless!

  • two of the kings of blues at their best, although Stevie was never counted, he was the 4th king!!

R.I.P stevie, we all missin' ya'

  • This is just so good! Thank you for posting it! 5 stars is all we are able to give, but this is worth so much more!

  • father & son, you can see the love & admiration in stevie's eyes..

  • i think i just saw god

  • I'll be darn!!.... is the only thing that Albert King had to say of the New King.... Steve!!

  • I still remember the day the helicopter went down. RIP Stevie. Viva Texas!

  • blues music at its best right here.

  • I love his voice it is so unique and strong. He's not Hendrix they are different but he was the closest to him but in his own way still. Very blues-heavy. Love it!

  • My God what a beautiful thing, thanks for posting all of these. RIP Stevie, taken away way to soon. Esrd1 that is my kind of heaven too!

  • cant wait to go to heaven n jam with hendrix n stevie =]]

  • at 3:49 to 3:51 albert makes lucy belt out a howl

  • Comment removed

  • at 4;17 it looks like someone is patting the sweat off Albert King!

  • The mentor and the student ! Stevie called him his Father! WOW what a pair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • srv holding back?

  • SRV definitely deserves to be in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame!! One of the All-Time Greats!! You are missed Stevie Ray!!

  • This is so so so good.....

  • This is the SHIT!!! WE MISS YOU STEVIE!!! Can't wait to see you and HEAR you rockin' on THE OTHER SIDE!

  • Albert King sums it up very well, when he says, "A lot of people can play fast, but they don't have any soul." You can play a millions miles an hour but if you don't have any soul in it, then what is the point.

  • true, but then again, some people just dont have the skills to play fast either. like he said, SRV has both

  • but gimme soul over skills....not even close. course with stevie, i didn't have to make a choice. (neither did he, i guess...lol.)

  • the type of music you play will have an effect on that balance as well. but generally i agree, music = emotion

  • This is pretty cool because they each have really different styles.

  • the fill in albert king does at 1:58 is so cool with srv's riff!
