Hey great video thanks for sharing. Im about to make some tea for the first time and have pretty much everything you listed since I have the "grow box" by GH. Ive heard people say that the life of the tea is very short. What do you recommend since I see youre brewing up quite the batch!
@coloradobluntman it's not bad as long as you add more molasses. if you use your tea for young plants going longer is very good to get your micorhizal going stronger. as long as you have food for you bacteria you can brew indefinitely. remember to vary the temperature in order to support more diversity. some types of bacteria like it warm (up to 76f) and some thrive around 60f. your micos like a lower temp. I start cool, use some. up temp. use again, and so on for 6 days
Foam is from proteins, typically from worm castings, but other proteins will cause that, foam is considered a good sign when making tea, which you probably already know.
@MrDaajman Sugar is 100% sucrose. Molasses is a mix of sucrose glucose and fructose. I think this mixture of sugars is better for the microorganisms. But I think sugar would be ok, but not as good as molasses. Vodka can also be used. essentially it is a carbon source for bacteria to multiply.
That is one incredible tea, but my question is the amount you have brewed...It has to be used immediately, or it is of no use after a few hours. You really use all 30g' s of that stuff in a few hours?!?
@stellerjay1 I think he has brewed too much tea in general (unless he has an acre of pot plants he is spraying it with). Also - your comment on the bubbler went over my head. I know what it does, but why were you saying to me that it would turn the tea Anaerobic? I know that is the case, but don't understand the reason you brought this up to me.
@sly2kusa Idk its not that hard to use 20 - 30 gallons of tea. But what u said was, "it has to be used immediately, or its of no use in a few hours." and i meant, that the guy in this video is using a bubbler to keep adding oxygen to the tea. This will make the tea usable for atleast a day. and the bacteria in the tea needs to stay aerobic, that bubbler will help keep the tea from going bad, or anaerobic.
@stellerjay1 That's a lot of tea...Compost Tea (especially Vermicompost Tea) is very potent stuff. I realized what you were saying about the bubbler (though I wouldn't recommend anything over 24 hours - maybe 36 tops, but after that it has lost the good microbial buggers that the whole process is for), but what I was saying is that he used a lot of Worm Castings. He could have used half with all the other elements he put in there.
@sly2kusa He could be using large pots... for 12 2 gallon pots I use 4-5 gallons of tea, so if he grew 12, 12 gal pots that would explain the amount of tea he makes.
you know u wont leach as much good stuff out of your composts if you leave it in the bag as apposed to mixing it directly in the water but good vid none the less
Thanks, for your recipe. I think if you put the water in 24 hours prior in your barrel and I wouldn't think you would need filtered water. I've been using alfalfa pellets in mine also which I believe is good for the worms to eat and also contains nitrogen plus all the trace minerals in alfalfa.
give fungi a head start. this activation is easily accomplished:several days befor brewing, mix the compost simple proteins that serve as a good fugal food- such as soy bean meal, powdered malt, oat meal, oat bran or,best of all, powdered baby oat meal.(or just grind reg oat meal).thouroughly mix in one of these at the rate of 3-4 TBS per cup of compost. make sure there is moisture in the compost.put in container.cover with plastic, place inwarm dark place.after3days will cover w white fluffy strands
@edgeeer I am not sure that is good at all for the plants, the point is to make aerobic bacteria, not cover so no air gets to it....your discribing how to make mold witch will get you and your plant sick!
I do have question however, do you think it would beneficial to use compost tea in lieu of water in a hydroponics system? Or could you foresee any possible problems with that idea?
The bubbling is actual a very good sign, it's showing that the bacteria and/or fungus are undergoing metabolic respiration (the bubbles being the release of carbon dioxide), which means they are growing or at least feeding.
I read that foam or scum is indicative of hungry microbes, they foam in search of food. seeing foam like that suggests that there is insufficient sugar for the ammount of microbes. I would add a lot more molasses
lmfao when the hose came out of the water ilaughed my ass off hahaha ,, nice brew .... i only have guano for my tea im sure it will work okay....maybe ill add bud candy ....it was mol;asses in it or do u think ishould add just molasses?
...and let me guess the actual sequence of events. You and your friend decide to make a vid. Just before you start you smoke one. About the time it begins to hit you the hose comes poppin out... smoke begins to effect your body and mind and talking in a straight line is just to much work. Of course my guess comes from personal experience....lol
That's not very heavy on molasses for 30 gal bro. During flowering people go as high as 1tsp per gal. You can get the same beneficial bacteria in there quicker by getting a pump to make a dropping action from circulating water. You can do it for about $10 bucks using a fish tank filter just take out the filter insert. Same thought behind the bio-bucket hydroponic method of harnessing beneficial bacteria. I have also heard a lot of the good stuff is more available in the first 24hrs.
where can I get one of those long spoons?

What about the pathogens? Tea is not ready in 24 hrs!
All you'll have in 24 hrs is bacteria. The rest of the biology takes up to 72 hrs to mature.

nuen8 1 year ago
how did u ensure the end product is alife? did u do a microscopic test on the end during application of the tea to the plants/soil/turf/vegi/trees?
during the process, pressure of the water will also kill the good bacterials.
do u research on the name of the bacterial species? would be good to know the strain name.
