  • made an awesome head banger song into a slow angry ballad!

    >:D

  • Im a big nine inch nails fan and i liked this cover i think its a good one. good job Ryan

  • blown away. made it your own and FELT the music, great job, hope the best for you.

  • I think with such voice - it's really very difficult to make bad cover!

  • As a huge NIN fan, i gotta say this guy really pulled this off.

  • I truelly love it...and the original it's fantastic....he really did a great job with it!

  • soft or not it has the raw honesty NIN does so wheter or not I like it it's a really good cover

  • sorry i thought it was bad, sings way to softly its almost annoying.

  • This sounds great! But I'm confused, I thought Ryan Star was that cross dressing guy??

  • thats Jeffrey star

  • 1 year later, this song is still good to me.

I've got a proposition for all of the complainers:

If you think you could do better, do it. I challenge you:

Cover this song with just your vocals and 1 instrument of your own choice.

    (no upright organ though, please)

Get recognized, play it in public (bar, event.. whatever) and post your own version for everyone here for everyone else to scrutinize.

IF you do as well, get the views and recognition for a job well done... I'll eat my hat.

    T-

  • I loved it until the chorus to ending...

  • i love it

  • yay i love nickelback

  • speaking as a nin fan. i've gotta say.... this man has neutered a perfectly good / heavy tune. like it or not you have to admit that singing this song all sombre and mopey is pretty lame. "I'm so sad.... oh and head like a hole. black as your soul.... waaah waaaah boo hoo" fuck i miss the 90's.

  • @666sidewalks

    Agreed, big time.

This was a good powerful song when it came out, I see nothing special or anything which earns a bit of respect from my side in taking away the testosterone it had.

"Hurt" cover by Johnny Cash was apropiate in the way it honored the song keeping the old feeling of it while imprinting some of his style with it where this song has an epic fail as this poop singer just goes for the drama queer act where there should be headbangs and slam.

  • this is terrible. he sounds like that crappy matchbox 20 singer. trent needs to kick this guy in the face.

  • FAKE N GAY!

  • You fuckin' blow and you disgrace NIN fans all over the world. Blow your head off.

  • Hear, hear!

  • Holy shit that was so fucking atrocious I lost a little bit of my bladder.

  • I think this sounds amazing... all you purists out there need to lighten up, he is focusing on his best instrument..... HIS VOICE.

  • yep

  • this is so gay its gay.

  • that makes no sense.

  • that was so gay i cant get the taste of cock out of my mouth

  • wtf was that

  • That was so gay I think I just got aids watching it.

  • I liked this version, well done

  • shit this is the emo version? wtf

  • wow... really??? i mean.. wow... never heard trent sing it quite like that.. take a hint bro... if u would rather die, ill let u borrow my .380

  • this Sucks fucking ass

  • Re-imagining a song is not a slap in the face to another artist. YOU may prefer the original but for others that don't this is a way for more people to enjoy the lyrics. I think this version just as much as the original. It adds another dimension to the song.

  • maybe if he did not fuck up the 2nd line...

  • oh my god.... this is fucking shit... Im sorry but he should never, EVER cover another NiN song unless hes willing to fuckin go crazy like NiN does when they play this song live

  • not a slap in the face..... not a bad remix, he's got the main element of the original song, which is EMOTION.... that's what sets that song OFF!!! whether it's trent, star singing.... i say good job taking the song into your own and producing an emotional remix....

  • @michaels48 he's doing it wrong.

This was not an emotional song... that's simply queer.

This was a passionate and visceral song, a song wich just by it's screams meant "FUCK YOU, FUCK MATERIALISM, AND FUCK GOVERNMENT"... and all the emo-emotion this guy set just says "FUCK ME IN THE ASS"

BTFW Remix would apply if there would be a freaking reminicent of techno or industrial sound it had allong with samples this just barely qualifies as a bad acoustic cover (failing btfw)

  • this is like a slap in the face to nin

  • nice !!!!!!!

  • Pretty good cover, well the last minute or so really. Bit critcal i spose but he shud have thrown in a few more chords/key changes or whatever on the acoustic, wud have been welcome.

  • fucking queerbait.

  • really good version but i still love the nin version live

  • >_>

    Yeahhhh... Not a big fan...

He screws this shit to hell...

  • Why does everyone thinks they're a music critic? If you don't like a song, simply move on to the next. Say nothing if you have nothing nice to say.

This music critic show is a circus act. Crying like you've been ripped off. WANT A REFUND? Sorry, music is free now days, but I guess that's not cheap enough for you... You want your 3 minutes back.

What do you hope to achieve? Convince people that what sounds good to their ears is really not good and they shouldn't like it? Isn't that fascist?

  • that was totally spot on dude!! i could not agree anymore! music is about connecting and sharing! not the opposite!!

ps this cover rules! check out purusa shove it....that's an awesome cover too!!

See that's how music works!! sharing!!

  • Speaking as a NIN fan, I've gotta say this rendition strikes a very deep chord, In a good way.

I don't know who this Ryan Star guy is, but if I could... I would shake his hand and tell him he did this song in a good way. Oh, and pay no mind to those haters... I'm sure they all hopped on the NIN bandwagon when "closer" came out.

    Popularity sucks sometimes.

    Good job Ryan!

    T-

  • I agree with you completely

  • i agree, i started listening to them when with teeth came out but i love all of NIN's songs, an i do appreciate this song seeing as how Trent wrote it when he was heart broken, this cover shows more of that then the anger in the original version.

  • @telemetryproductions a lot of people think that they become a NIN fan from being aggressive and unaccpeting. Trent, for example, could make up or at least come to a consensus with Manson, etc. also as a side note, rock "stars" who's fans bite eachs others throaths, very often well know love and respect each other. (badenglish)

  • Dude...like really good.

  • Nice this guys is talented. He really nailed the angst of the tune. I love the emotion at the end!

  • wow that's amazing performance

  • ....wow that was awesome.

stop filling up the comments with comments about the haterz. just ignore them instead of giving them fuel for their childish fires.

....he brought the intensity of the song along with some subtly....beautiful.

  • thats awesome

  • i just died a little inside...

  • Ok, here's the deal...

As a music fan and nin fan, I loved it.

A lot of NIN fans are bitter, bitter children...especially the ones over 25 that still work at Subway because "trent abandoned them by making see angsty, more palatable music"*which is crap*

Anyways, I digress. You've got a great voice, and this cover is fucking phenomenal.

  • you wasted 2:53 of your life....

i know man... it sucks when you waste your minutes of your life

  • huge NIN fan here and I loved it! 5/5 *fav'd*

  • I love how almost everyone is bashing this guys cover. I like it, just as I like Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt". They are different interpretations of the songs Trent wrote. Grow up and start learning to appreciate music as it is.

  • Very good point.

Everything is just a different interpretation. Seeing as different works makes it easy to appreciate different versions for what they are.

  • @cajunKATIEEE well said!

  • this is sick! its excillent. all you haters suck. bahahahha

  • sombody staple this guy's balls to a tree.

  • @angie4josh

he lost them in the process to sing this way...

  • And Trent Reznor shows up back stage and strangles him to death with a microphone cord.

  • all right this is an interpretation or a tribute....if this guy tried to play it like trent i would call him a fucking douche bag....but he is not. i as an avid fan since '92 like what he did with this...

  • ya... NIN is far better

the acoustic guitar just doesn't work for me in this song

  • THIS FUCKIN BLOWS!!! GROW THE FUCK UP!!!Leave things such as NIN sacred, you cunt!!! Go SUCK YOUR OWN DICK!!!

  • I love this cover, it's depressing XD and isn't thats NIN biggest emotion is sex and depression?

  • i like this cover alot as well and i'm a die-hard nin fan..this guy gave this song a different edge..more emotional and tragic than angst-ridden...and all these clowns that keep complaining about it are just close-minded fools who can't appreciate different types of music..plain and simple

  • lol wow im getting bashed by all the NIN fans, rofl. Nin fans = AFI haters?

  • no dude, anyone who listens to good music = AFI haters

  • i'm all for turning covers into a whole new song but this was garbage

  • you butchered a classic NIN song!Somebody shoot this guy.

  • the recorded version i got off iTunes is so much better, this lacked a bit in comparison

  • What makes a good cover is one that divides the audience right down the middle. When the more open minded folk love it and at the same time when its different enough from the original song that the die hard purists really hate it.

Thats what makes this, in my humble opinion a great cover.

  • I am obsessed with this cover, it brings the focus off of all production that trent loves so much and puts it back on piercing razor's edge that is the vocals. awesome.

  • great way to make a great song into generic acoustic garbage

  • Nice effort, but simply not the same song without the industrial grind...it looses its meaning. The song is supposed to sound violent and much more intense.

  • Please don't cover this on acoustic...ever!

  • look its Dave Mathews singing NINE INCH NAILS... now go suck a dick wanker

  • Who?

  • If I toss 5 bucks in your jar will you stop singing? Please...

  • You are not Ryan Star. She's hot! =(

  • BOO you suck

  • Its good. Defiantly better than Devo's. Better than AFI's. Still in love with NIN's though, sorry.

  • NO FREAKIN WAY.

  • How fucking retarded could you possibly be?

  • bullshit it is, AFI sucks my ass.

  • You must have lost your motherfucking mind.

  • this is good! anyone heard the AFI version too

  • I like NIN's better, but I enjoy this as well. Different, but good, though the lyrics sound better with more power behind them.

  • Can someone please tab this or at least tell me what chords he is using????

  • im a die-hard NIN fan and though this is a definite twist to the original, i really enjoyed it. i thought his version did the original some form of justice

  • I actually really liked this. NINs version is amazing but at least he tried to do something different instead of copying the song exactly.

  • This is good! This the last song I would expect to be done acoustic!

  • I don't see why so many people hate this. I'm a huge fan of NIN, and I like this version. It does get a little weird near the end where he's not singing any actual lyrics, but he has a great voice and he's really getting into the song. It's not like the original, but that doesn't make it bad.

  • Think outside the box

  • You fanboys need to stop bitching.

  • mood of the song sounds stalkerish and like a man who's desperate and at the end of his rope and about to snap.... I Like It!!!!!!!!

  • fuck u all, i liked it

  • I found this on the Related Videos column on one of the videos I uploaded. I don't mind Ryan but this is a stinking pile of doggy doo.

  • there shouldn't be any NIN covers ever... this is just not true.

  • There should not be any NIN acustic cover ever ever!!!! FUCK Man!!...i like Ryan but this song was awful!!...

  • ... this is good. huh...

  • nails for a hangover

  • wtf is this...

  • i guess the reason that as nin fans we like it is that he captured the angst of the song... i liked it too, strangely...

  • i've heard all kinds of nin covers and yes strangely a broken down acoustic version of a ragingly bad ass reznor creation ryan pulled it off, i give it a 6/10

  • nin is nin ...

he did justice and it wasnt that bad really and giving my comment the thumbs down shows how unprofessional you ppl are

  • this sucks

  • i acully like it. he didnt kill it like i though he would. thanx for posting it.

  • Great cover.

  • wtf is wrong with all you haters

this guy is a talented singer and you people need to respect that

  • not good.

  • Drug dealer? more like drug user... looks liek his lip is numb from all that coke

  • im a NIN fan andd this sucks ass big time im sorry but ya its really bad

  • agreed, pretty bad.

  • wtf is wrong wth this, as a NIN fan, i can say this is kinda awesome

  • i agree

  • I'm sorry, but this sucks compared to the real one. But effort points are rewarded.

  • this is fucking horrible. fucking douche bag. i hope trent knocks your fucking teeth out,

  • Interesting cover. He's a cliche though. You can tell when someone's in it for the babes when they sing like that... It's overproduced, reverb to heavy, and they might have once been a choir boy, and it's just... been done... Also, he's clearly not a very good songwriter. I've seen better adaptations. He'll be the pop singer that has other people write his songs for him.

  • actully have you ever heard of the band he was in before he went solo. band was called stage. take a look. doing it for the chicks well, that a perk of being a singer anyway. plus he is a really cool dude. i met him more then once.

  • Horrible !

  • Boring.

  • fucking awesome.

  • love ending:)

  • It's done well... It's not Trent and so it feels kinda molested because the anger and viciousness isn't quite there. I like it but it's not NIN. Good interpretation

  • I'm a huge NIN fan, and I actually liked this. I think, of all the covers I've seen on NIN songs here on Youtube, this is the best one.

  • Give the guy some cred..He stood there and took a masterpart apart and made a solo acoustic guitar part of it.(without going down like a baby)

  • this is sweet as. forget the fact that its not Trent Reznor, and forget that its not goth. as a guitarist and a performing artist, he's done an amazing job of adapting the NIN song as a solo piece.

  • omfg!

    hella kool!

  • the ending part was pretty good.

  • im a NIN fan and i think this really isnt really that bad, infact i like it XD

  • im a hardcore NIN fan

but i thought this was alright

to go up on stage to play head like a hole with nothing but a acoustic guitar i think takes some balls, and to do it without falling completely on your face takes some skill.

its no trent masterpiece, but give the guy some cred

  • I never noticed it before but he kinda of sounds like Trent.

  • Arg! That was painful!

  • god way to butcher a really good song

  • Didn't like it. Took the song apart and it's not meant to be taken apart.

  • This IS a good interpretation. Even if you don't like it you must admit he puts his own edge and emotion into the song.

Those who can't get over the fact that he is not Trent Reznor or goth, should not have even clicked on this.

  • Fucking douchebag butchered an amazing song

    Leave HLAH to Trent

  • If Trent did a version like this probably fans would like it, probably I would enjoy it as well, but I don't really enjoy it. Besides he's a "drugdealer" this guys bad news bears.

  • This guy is a cocksocket

  • Cocksocket!

    isn't that like a pussy

    or something?

"open your skin flaps bitch i'm puttn'

    it right in yur Cocksocket"

  • nice voice but I don't think NIN is his thing... Maybe if he had a band but I'm still not sure...

  • this is the worst cover of nin i ever herd! i dont know is this guy famous in USA but guy's like this in EU we even dont let near the stage. this ryan or how was he... is killing music.

  • everybody is bashing at this guy but I thought it was allright ! Nothing like the J. Cash cover ahah^^

  • Who's that knocking on your front door ryan? It's the Suck police....you're under arrest!

  • Well it's nothing special if you ask me. I love NIN's Head like a hole but this was... Booring.

  • thats fuckin badass. dont care if its ryan star.

  • .................no

  • He castrated the song!

  • I fucking hate this guy. He has no business singing this song

  • he sings it quite good but i miss the anger. but still good i think :)

  • fdsfddfs. fmdskfs. oh dear god.

    that was horrible.

he killed ALL the anger in that song.

  • Best Nin cover I ever seen...

    I love Ryan.

  • i personally love NIN...and well this.....this is totaly awesome!

  • He's the dark horse. His song choices are a little odd but cool at the same time. He's a very good vocalist

  • ryan star is good. Do a search and give him a fair chance

  • i am amazed everyone is trashing this so much - i think this is pretty fucking amazing, this guy can sing!

  • what the hell is this?

  • ryan star just killed this song for me

    fucking asshole

  • as art this is great, nice job ryan whoever u are.

and tell me, mister korndawg, prove to me that theres no feeling or understanding. where are you justified in saying that ?

u sound like all the bigots who tell me gays are sinners and mastubatings unhealthy. fucker, im gonna beat off right now.

    christ have an open mind

  • he's an asshole.

  • Stop Criticizing like you know what bands think, and just listen and enjoy music

  • For all of you that cant seem to get their head of their ass and wont stop making fun ot R. Star.. When people cover another bands song, its not to replace the old one, if anything its just showing the other band the most respect for what they have done, R.Star may not be your type of music, and may not sing something the way YOU want it, but with his style of music he does what he does Great, just like NIN does Great with their type
