Learn guitar. That was the best thing I ever did for my bass playing. You don't even have to have a teacher, just get your hands on a cheap guitar and screw around with it.

You need the right pick first. Basses need thicker, stronger picks, so go with the Dunlop Tortex style pick. The thickness will be determined by your feel, but for me, I use 0.88mm.
Next, grip the pick with only a small bit sticking out, and use the side of your curled forefinger instead of the tip to grip it against your thumb. That strong grip means strong attack.

i must say, great bassist, but something about the audio seems off to me, i don't know if you're playing in a different tuning, or your settings are just off, it just sounds odd. something about it being higher pitched. I noticed it mainly in tommy the cat. which. i loved by the way, must say, great skill, check out and protest the hero copy by chin, and note how well his rig is setup

Yes, 90% of my vids are without a pick. For Maiden, I have Running Free, Charlotte the Harlot, The Evil that Men Do, Number of the Beast, Running Silent Running Deep, Can I Play With Madness, Prodigal Son, and Two Minutes to Midnight...all done without a pick. Sometimes I use both like To Tame a Land, Innocent Exile, and Flash of th Blade, and sometimes I use a pick exclusively like this video, Killers, The Trooper, and Back in the Village.

Screw that! WHy play Steve Harris basslines with a pick? If you cant get it to sound right with your fingers then dont play it. And besides your bass is out of tune.

Why play Iron Maiden with a pick? Two reasons...because I can, and secondly, so I can ferret out assholes to ban. It's a hobby of mine.

Idiot. I'm ALWAYS amused at the ignorant jerks who say "OOH, BASSISTS WITH PICKS SUCK". I mean, WTF? It sounds kickass the way he plays it now, so who cares how he plays it? To me, he could play it with a rubber chicken if it sounded this good...And besides, people who don't realise the "attacking" sound a pick gives to the bass, are dumb morons. Picks are really useful when playing rock and metal, wether you are dependant on them or not (which really, I don't think this guy is). Great cover!!

I don't care what these guys say, play the way it sounds best to you. I play finger-style but can't play with a pick anymore and envy players that can. I'll put a version of this up soon. Just have to quit being lazy! Great playing!

We really would like to hear and see you play Rime of the Ancient Mariner (2parts?). You are easily the most exciting bass player to listen to on Youtube. The sound is so clear and great, and you play with all of your heart. I prefer the videos with you playing the bass alone.

I'm not real picky on picks (no pun) but some people really hold finger strumming to heart...All Maiden is fingered...Ownage, but good cover...I would like to see some fingers...you play w/o a pick at all?

Yes, 90% of my vids are without a pick. For Maiden, I have Running Free, Charlotte the Harlot, The Evil that Men Do, Number of the Beast, Running Silent Running Deep, Can I Play With Madness, Prodigal Son, and Two Minutes to Midnight...all done without a pick. Sometimes I use both like To Tame a Land, Innocent Exile, and Flash of th Blade, and sometimes I use a pick exclusively like this video, Killers, The Trooper, and Back in the Village.
