Cant see any advantage of using mechs in modern/future warfare, at least not on a plain battlefield or in Woods, but an enourmous advantage is their manouverability, you could use them to climb mountains or move fast Street-to-Street.

@kalasnikoch A Mech wont be able to climb a Mountain like a human since its feets are to rigid. The biggest problem in terrain mouverability is the ground pressure. Basically ALL Mechs/Robots i saw in any Sci Fi System completely ignore ground pressure. A tank can traverse terrain where a human sinks in (mud for example) without problems, a Mech wouldnt be able to move there at all... And due to the shape its impossible to armour a Mech to a tank comparable level.

Mechwarrior wastes all. The smallest mechwarrior mech is as big as any of those mechs. I admit the super agile armoured core mehs would be a significant threat, but that sheild won't stop a EMcannon that could take down an entire dropship, and agility means nought when theres 120 locked LRM's with a range of 1km coming at you.

@JoshuatheKodiak im sorry but i been playing mechcommander for a LONG time madcat being clan tech is more advanced than a ATLAS being a IS tech... if an atlast gets in melee range its dual AC 20ies will rip apart a MC but a novice pilot should be able to use the speed to out maneuver an atlas to M-L range thus making an atlas stick to its LRMs and possible PPC or ERPPC but a MC allready has C-LRM or C-ERPPCs thus the ATLAS is at a disadvantage as its highly armored making it a melee mech...

Oh, I thought that you were talking about what you saw in the video - You did, but in a different way. You are saying that in that video, the Mad Cat should have destroyed the atlas... hmm.

That atlas was behind buildings (You can not use radar in the B-Tech universe when theres an obstacle in the way, such as a hill or a building. The radar 'bounces' off it). The Atlas usually also has ECM. It has also far better armor, thus making it awesomely suited like the ambush in the vid.

@ShadowClan7 That machine is from Armored Core 4. It's known as Supplice, piloted by the Rank 1 pilot, Berlioz. Supplice itself is a highly customized Aaliyah model NEXT with a mixed weapons loadout and a highly skilled AI for game purposes. You can make copy the machine fairly easily in-game, though using it to full effectiveness is very, very difficult.

I liked Heavy Gear a fair bit, it was like Mechwarrior meets Armored core. I still like the original style armored core the best though.

I want a Armored Core game for the PC!!... damn japs don't know/think that PCs are a good if not the best gaming machine.

Armored Core for PC would be nice, but also just a sequel to Heavy gear would work too.

Right now all I got is Hawken (which isn't out yet), and that won't have as much customization as I like in mech games.

Let me expain something that might become US's future of mechs.

I was thinking of a cockpit of a mech that was full of water,and oxygen was supplied to the pilot via a SCUBA unit.As NEXT's in AC4/AC4a can 'Quick Boost',the pilots must be able to withstand atleast 15G's,witch is way over the human limit.As to controls to the mech,a nural connection from the pilots brain to the Computer system could be connected via a cord attached from the brain to the actual mech.

I'd say my two cents on the whole Battletech VS Armored core thing is thus:

Both games are good. you don't need to exclude yourself from one or the other. If you wand fast-paced mech action with lots of things blowing up, than play AC. If you want to really get into a 'harder' scifi relm, than play Battletech games. Each is a perfectly acceptable mech universe. Essentially: AC= fast action, less realism; BT= more realistic, but slower action. I like both, and some others besides.

Mechs will never be used in the future, the reason why: because their not practical you would need to stabalize it and worry about the placing of the foot, and why do that when you can have a heavly armored tank that is very fast and on treads or otherwise in the future hover lift? Another problem is when it does get hit with a shell, it is going to take ALOT to keep the mech from tipping over.

OK, you said mech cannon, there isnt a mech cannon now, and there is nothing that says you cant put it if it did exist, on a tank, and about mechs flying, we are going to have flying or hovering cars by then, so why not use that technology and make tanks hover and fly? And, mechs take time to aim to? they do, the turret still has to turn to find target so yes it still does take time to aim and now, the technollogy we have now, are tanks are already locking on super fast

@shiroshini I tried Armored Core for the PS3 and found that it was lacking, conciderably. I didn't bother playing past the training mode. MW4 Merc on computer was the pinnacle of Simulated 'Mech combat. It's all about as close to real physics as possible.
