project looking glass is about going back in time by monitoring past time events in realtime via alien technology. why this video here has the same title? now all people will think its about a computer fun software. i bet thats again some disinfo going on so people can´t find the real informations anymore.
Project Looking Glass... Understanding the millisecond time distortion between aircraft elevation and acceleration when physically dilated. DON'T JERK PEOPLE AROUND
So, we thought we name this project borrowing a name of something from the Alice stories. Some guy then said "Looking Glass" -- since it's visual is glassy, and the "Through the Looking-Glass" story well matches with the UI -- 2D thing turns into 3D thing (there is a 3D world beyond the flat glass panel)
If you are interested, please search "Announcement: INACTIVE (PRACTICALLY DEAD) since late 2006" (using Google w/o double-quotes. Yahoo cannot find the page at the moment my writing. Sorry for the trouble, but as you know I cannot write down any URL here in the comments...
Hi. I'm Hideya Kawahara who initiated this project. As some of the comments says, sadly, Sun just used it as a marketing-ware, and didn't put enough resource to make it usable... sigh...
It's called Project Looking Glass because, as David Wilcock might say, it's a method of HIDING THE TRUTH IN THE OPEN...a method of confusing the public...
My poor brain doesn't understand your logic... "it's a method of HIDING THE TRUTH IN THE OPEN...a method of confusing the public..."
I'm sure it is saying good thing because this comment got "+3" (at the time my writing).
BTW, we opensourced it back in 2004. As to the "confusing the public" part, I'm afraid it is true. Sun just used it as a marketing-ware. Even though Sun said to the public (and to us, Sun developers) that they will invest more resources to the project, they didn't.
No this isnt the real Project Looking Glass. Not by any means is it the real one. This is the version they give to the babies.

@konjunktion26 Because this platform is the predecessor of project looking glass. This is the time window's great great grandfather.

Horrible idea. I know the stupid 3D interface wasn't even the point, but a lot of idiots will think so.

Wouldn't it be more successful if you released it instead of just talked about it?
Maybe it would.

You can call this "shit" or whatever you like, but please remember that this demo was first given back in 2003 (before OS X Leopard, before Vista).
And please remember that we were very serious about possibilities in this kind of UI.
Well, it's all gone now anyway...
I stop crying like a baby...

As to the naming, the real situation was like this:
Jonathan Schwartz (EVP of Software back then) loves "alice in wonderland".
Back then, Sun had a project called "Mad Hatter" - a Linux-based desktop environment (you can search "Sun Mad Hatter" if you are interested).

Not the project looking glass i was after, nor is it an advanced piece of technology like i was expecting, but maybe thats why they've made it....

are we suppose to be impressed because the wolfs let us sheep have access to their primitive technology.

Why you think Sun developers are "wolfs" and you guys are "sheep"? I don't understand... Sorry if it is because of lack of my English skill...
