What I like most about Sharma's climbing is not merely how hard he climbs or how focused he is, but how earnest and gentle he is. He truly is an artist.
first off get real if you dont devote your life to climbing you will never climb 5.14 , esp not 5.15 most of use will reach 5.11 5.12 with some persiverence and training alot of it. im in great shape and curently climb 5.9 + 5.10 a,b I train 30 to 45 min 4 days a week and climb twice a week plus im in construction so my hands and grip are strong. With that said i DO NOT consider my self a good climber I use my grip and arm strength to get threw hard climbs.
Chris Sharma is the Man!!! This route in Spain is epic! Check out my helmet Camera footage from climbing Mount Stephen in Canada. Pretty crazy footage.... 2km of air on one side 1km on the other side.
As i see there is no gear on the wall to put your system in,.. and beacuse this is face climbing and not crack climbing.. if it was crack climbing then you could put your butterfly system in the crack and protect yourself,.. and that is why chris is on the top rope ? He is no solo climber,.. except if he is doing deep water solo :)
I got the sense as though his company didn't quite understand the magnitude of this climb. I guess that Chris makes his efforts seem easy from another eye.
How many tries did it take you to send Jumbo Love? You talk so much crap on every climbing video. Sharma was clearly just taking it easy, having a good time. You can see he has a wallet in his back pocket. Let go of the ego chump.
I like this vid, Not all climbing is about the 5.14-5.15 pump fests that kill you fingers. This is the kind of climbing that I like, just fooling around with friend and having fun. So what if your are not climbing at you max potential that day.
@aikidophreak Your wrong, the best climber is the one that can climb the hardest or most technical. If your having fun how the fuck does that make you a good climber? Your just jealous coz you wish you could climb 5.14-15 don't you?
@MysteryDrummer247 : you show your noobness. do you know who said "The best climber in the world is the one having the most fun!"? Alex Lowe. If you dont know who that is then STFU!
5.14 /5.15 means you a strong climber not necessarily a good climber. You show your narrow mindedness. I have met fantastic climbers that can only pull 5.8s, but they look out for there partner and know how to adapt to changing and unforeseen obstacles. There is much more to climbing than pulling hard.
Ever taken a fall leading slab? If you're lucky, the rock only takes a little skin and doesn't get your blood, too. And 12d slab is more balancy and beta-intensive than most of the 5.14 pumpfests Sharma favors, so it makes sense that he'd take a few falls finding the sequence. Besides, he's a man who needs to prove NOTHING to the world. If I were him, I'd toprope anything without a clean fall, too.
Totally agree with you, however, this is not you or me climbing, it is Sharma. Climbers are used to fall climbing any route, besides he is not falling in the slab and the falls look pretty clean to me, or? The point is that this video looks more like a poor climbing demonstration in a cheap cable channel than a real climbing video. Do not defend what is not being attacked.
8 months back. But I still agree with SomewhatStaid that slab is difficult for those who are not used to it. Those trady tennis ball hippies may be able to do this but even a 5.15er like Sharma is gonna have a hard time on a line like this on slab. Im a 12a'ish climber and have a hard time on anything +10ish on slab. And thebksfriend... I would love to see some more crazy hard slab climbs, only problem is they look like a bore on video...
he didn't really have trouble with the difficulty so much as figuring out where the holds are. like he said, if the route got a lot of traffic, and had a lot of chalk/rubber marks, im sure he could have onsighted it.
That said, i agree that moves on slab routes are sometimes more technical/ tricky.
@Pomattic True, I think slab gets tougher grading because it's less athletic than overhangs, so resting between moves is easier. It also depends what you're good at. I was in RRG with a group, and watched our guide do an onsight FA of a 5.12 slab, it was pretty crazy.
I agree that videos of slab aren't too great though, because the moves aren't as spectacular. Still, for actually climbing them, 5.11 and up on slab has a special place in my heart, because those routes are just tricky bastards.
Another thing that makes slab tough is that it's usually impossible to tell where the good holds are without touching them first, since it's either low-traffic with no chalk or there's chalk everywhere with three red herrings for every real hold.
as a beginner climber who often gets frustrated with advanced stuff while leading, watching chris sharam do hard stuff in top rope is really motivating:D i likes
