@hockeydomination99 what? You have any idea how deep a meteor that size would get into the earth? And even if terravivos did survive the impact, to what effect? to be stuck underground for a year and wait for supplies to run out, and then end up cannibalizing each other/starving to death until you die? I would much prefer a meteor to that.
Hot? rock in deepest ocean: A LOT of steam/waves but NO FIRE !

No not really. The Chicxulub impact was caused by an asteroid estimated at about 10km and is the largest known crater I think, although it did mark a possible extinction event, the effects were not the same as this proposed 500km asteroid.
The majority of you guys commenting are morons. If you knew anything about astrophysics you would know this is possible. If GALAXIES collide together, why the fuck can't an Asteroid crash into earth? A Galaxy is much larger than Earth. Jupiter was struck by 3 comments in 1994, the moon shows signs of large impacts that filled half the surface with lava. Search for Cosmos by Carl Sagan on youtube and learn something you idiots.
@rontayan woah Jupiter was struck by 3 comments in 1994?? man I know getting struck by 3 COMETS would be bad but comments damn...where they mean comments?? cause they might have hurt Jupiters feelings...learn to spell dumbass before you call ppl morons if you cant spell kinda hurts your credibility on any other subject
if you actually believe this garbage let me know so i can get you an all expense paid trip to the MOTHER F*CKING LUNATIC ASYLUM by the way party at my house dec 22nd 2012
THere are no near earth crossing asteroids anywhere near that size. All planet killers are much smaller than that, and they are all accounted for. It is only the small asteroids that may have escaped detection this long and will have escaped detection until they get so close we can't do anything about it. We are talking asteroids the size of a house, not the size of the state of Texas!
No, It's on 2029! Oh, 20... Something. I forgot. Oh yeah! About a 1 in 200,000 chance impact in about 2020? There is also a 1 in 1.3 million chance somewhere in 2030 something! Oh, that asteroid is also smaller than that by 50 kilometers. Still enough to kill us. Ah! May I be mistaken! It's only about 450 metres! Phew, thought it was 1,000 times larger! Good thing it'll burn up to a crisp.
Yup. We also have big nukes. Asteroids that size also probably are real scarce here, and the other belts, they'll get burn't up. But if ever a 500 kilometer asteroid is gonna hit us, that's probably gonna be a long time. We're gonna invent Hypersoars soon, and then after that we may fly to other planets with more devices. And let me tell you, the asteroid that size will probably only come in a billion years - Yeah. Dino Extinction asteroids come only in 100 million... Man, maybe I was wrong?
this is wrong as far as I know, first there weren't so many impacts, I think some really bad impact happened last 65 million years ago when the dinosaurs died, the mass extinction around 200 million years ago wasn't a meteor as newest researches show...and I'm sure that the earth was never hit by an object this big...maybe 5-15km in diameter but never 500, I think the earth wouldn't stand that and maybe pushed out of it's orbit^^
You are absolutely right! A meteorite of that magnitude may have been responsible for the creation of the moon during Earth, and the solar systems infancy. However in the last 100 million years , or so there were much smaller impacts. As you mentioned the Comet, or Asteroid that impacted the Yucatan Peninsula 65 Million years ago was responsible for the extinction of the Dinosaurs. 85% of the Dinos actually succumbed to starvation from the effects of a Massive Globular Winter/Ice Age.Cmon 2012
@LLuuuK If you support the theory that the moon was created by a Mars-sized object colliding with early Earth than, yes, it was hit by an object this size before, but billions of years ago.
hm, yeah, you're probably right...but I have no idea what size an object would have needed to break the moon out of the earth, and this was way before anything alive was on this planet =)...as you said...billions of years ago...it was probably very short after the big bang (relatively)...I read about 30-50 million years after the big bang...ie. 4.x billion years...and I'm really not sure about this theory...too far away to be sure...like the rest of the discussion here =)
maybe but what are you doing after you survived?? first it gets hot (very hot =D), then a rain of little to medium meteors rains on the earth surface, then the athmosphere cools down drastically because of the dust in it...because of that all plants die and you don't have any food, then it gets colder (very cold) and you live in a new ice age for the next couple of 100 years (maybe more??)...I think dying is the better option =)
will we feel any thing

The majority of you guys commenting are morons. If you knew anything about astrophysics you would know this is possible. If GALAXIES collide together, why the fuck can't an Asteroid crash into earth? A Galaxy is much larger than Earth. Jupiter was struck by 3 comments in 1994, the moon shows signs of large impacts that filled half the surface with lava. Search for Cosmos by Carl Sagan on youtube and learn something you idiots.
rontayan 2 years ago
@rontayan woah Jupiter was struck by 3 comments in 1994?? man I know getting struck by 3 COMETS would be bad but comments damn...where they mean comments?? cause they might have hurt Jupiters feelings...learn to spell dumbass before you call ppl morons if you cant spell kinda hurts your credibility on any other subject
bravesfan4288 2 years ago
@BravesfanI can spell, I just used the wrong wording. you fuck stick. And YES Jupiter is still having issues with self esteem because of it.
rontayan 2 years ago
@rontayan, You know when galaxies "collide" there is hardly any collision between stars and planets.
Derp derp derp.

@bIoodypingu and hardly isn't a 100% affirmative answer is it?
Let's and another DERP for your shaky reply.

@Makaria400,
Yeah the evidence is called 5th Grade science class. if you google earth Meteor impact you'll get what your looking for.
rontayan 2 years ago
VERY highly doubt that will ever happen n im a supersticious person

I'm sure the dinosaurs felt the same way.

THere are no near earth crossing asteroids anywhere near that size. All planet killers are much smaller than that, and they are all accounted for. It is only the small asteroids that may have escaped detection this long and will have escaped detection until they get so close we can't do anything about it. We are talking asteroids the size of a house, not the size of the state of Texas!
theknightlynews 2 years ago
Actually a meteor bigger than that is going to hit us on 2032 it is called Apophis.
x17attack 2 years ago
No, It's on 2029! Oh, 20... Something. I forgot. Oh yeah! About a 1 in 200,000 chance impact in about 2020? There is also a 1 in 1.3 million chance somewhere in 2030 something! Oh, that asteroid is also smaller than that by 50 kilometers. Still enough to kill us. Ah! May I be mistaken! It's only about 450 metres! Phew, thought it was 1,000 times larger! Good thing it'll burn up to a crisp.
LordDogbone 2 years ago
LordDogbone 2 years ago
@LordDogbone please tell me you dont believe in this bullcrap
abelincolnism 2 years ago
this is wrong as far as I know, first there weren't so many impacts, I think some really bad impact happened last 65 million years ago when the dinosaurs died, the mass extinction around 200 million years ago wasn't a meteor as newest researches show...and I'm sure that the earth was never hit by an object this big...maybe 5-15km in diameter but never 500, I think the earth wouldn't stand that and maybe pushed out of it's orbit^^

Yes your right
bowserfan100 2 years ago
You are absolutely right! A meteorite of that magnitude may have been responsible for the creation of the moon during Earth, and the solar systems infancy. However in the last 100 million years , or so there were much smaller impacts. As you mentioned the Comet, or Asteroid that impacted the Yucatan Peninsula 65 Million years ago was responsible for the extinction of the Dinosaurs. 85% of the Dinos actually succumbed to starvation from the effects of a Massive Globular Winter/Ice Age.Cmon 2012

i was acting like a douchebag ok? i jsut got pist off for some reason so i decided 2 talk like tehy are stupid
LordDogbone 2 years ago
@LLuuuK If you support the theory that the moon was created by a Mars-sized object colliding with early Earth than, yes, it was hit by an object this size before, but billions of years ago.
sanbsball44 1 year ago
@sanbsball44
hm, yeah, you're probably right...but I have no idea what size an object would have needed to break the moon out of the earth, and this was way before anything alive was on this planet =)...as you said...billions of years ago...it was probably very short after the big bang (relatively)...I read about 30-50 million years after the big bang...ie. 4.x billion years...and I'm really not sure about this theory...too far away to be sure...like the rest of the discussion here =)

I guess you could survive with a shelter made out of concrete or something like that
JacobDrawings 2 years ago
maybe but what are you doing after you survived?? first it gets hot (very hot =D), then a rain of little to medium meteors rains on the earth surface, then the athmosphere cools down drastically because of the dust in it...because of that all plants die and you don't have any food, then it gets colder (very cold) and you live in a new ice age for the next couple of 100 years (maybe more??)...I think dying is the better option =)
