  • gotta say I prefer Yundi Li

  • gotta say I prefer Horowitz

  • I love this!

  • 癒される~~~

  • Yes! This shows men are allowed to cross their legs like women!

  • Nice. But i came here from Horowitz´ Interpretation...and there Yundi Li only can lose.

  • @hardcorl

    i disagree its too subjective

  • @timothy3316

Never said that it was an objective appraisal. ;)

  • @hardcorl

    nice

  • What a name... penguinpuss.

  • @JyBlu nice lighting too.

  • Better than Langlang's, more fluent expression, but still not fully controlled. I think it's because he is still young.

  • @leeyue47 what do your "fully controlled" mean?

  • @deboris777: Just like when Charles Barkley got annoyed at people comparing Christian Leitner to the great Larry Bird. He said "the only thing they have in common is they both pee standing up"

  • He was reading the sheet music like a newspaper at 1:47 =)

  • Graceful song & player.

  • So Beautiful and Graceful song.

  • no pianist can compare with yundi Li. none come close.

  • @tigertolyy Horowitz interpretation of this song is better. now what?

  • @philaboston maybe to you, but that doesnt change that facts man. and nothing against Horowitz hes my second or 3rd all time favorite pianist. :) his interpretation is awesome as well. now what?

  • @tigertolyy This interpretation is cheap compared to Horowitz' Moscow 1986 recital. That's what.

    Take a seat.

  • @ProkofievRules its cheap? you're retarded. horowitz is great, but yundi is greater. :) have a seat and lose your bitterness.

  • @tigertolyy

Kill yourself. Yundi is a second rate pianist compared to Horowitz. Not that that's a knock or anything, but this much is clear: horowitz is the greatest pianist on sound recording. That includes Hoffmann, Rachmaninoff, Rubinstein, Ashkenazy, Lhevinne, Richter, Gould and a whole host of other pianists who are superior to Yundi Li.

  • @ProkofievRules your just absolutely retarded. second rate is what you are. but youre inferior not just to horowitz and yundi li.. your inferior to an ant. and Yundi? he schools them all.

  • @ProkofievRules Agreed, if you were to ask Argerich, Kissin, Yundi Li, Lang Lang, Pollini, Lisitsa, and all the "greats" alive today, they might not like Horowitz' sound, but they'd all agree Horowitz is the nil plus ultra of all pianists after Lizst - alas no recordings were made of lizst.

Yundi Li, on his day, beats Kissin for musicality IMO.

  • I love this song. The best ones are always so simple.

  • He is brilliant. He doesn't try to make himself immortal by extravagant interpretations. He just makes music.

  • excuse me guys i just had a musical orgasm

  • @demwangstasenviimii best comment ever;DD

  • yeah fuck those who pretend they are so good looking.

  • Divine!

Wonder how it'd sound if played by Yuja Wang.

  • MAGNIFIQUE !!!

  • I was unaware that acting lessons go hand in hand with piano lessons.

  • I have to agree with meaning1. Yundi play with the same seriousness and concentration as Kissin. You will never see Kissin eye rolling or rocking back and forth no matter what he is playing - elegant and poised befitting a respectable and respected classical musician. Yundi belongs to that tradition, though of a newer generation. Both are just great!! Kissin's performances are sold outs all over the world. I am sure with persistence, Yundi's will be the same very soon.

  • @loyalistish LOL he sells out all the time. You make it sound like he's a beginner trying to make it big. "Go get 'em, slugger."

  • what a perfect video for this song. when i hear it, im dreaming too ^__^

  • This guy is speaking. He is speaking his own voice. As years and thoughts add up I'm sure I will enjoy him even more. Forge your path Yundi Li. We the listener will benefit indeed. John-Hans Melcher ps Youtube is great to compare and discuss renditions. We all have our favorites.

  • That brief scene of a young boy (Yundi) circling the piano to feel it brings such an innocence into Schumann's gentle and idyllic Traumerei.

  • Very peaceful...love Yundi Li...one of my most favorite pieces of music...Aloha from Hawaii

  • Who is the best Traumerei player among Horowitz, Lang Lang and Yundi Li? Unfortunately, it seems Yundi Li is the best, then Lang Lang, and then Horowitz, in my opinion.

  • @chiehwenwang

    why do you say unfortunately?

also, you're crazy if you think lang lang is better than horowitz, but judging by your username I can see where the bias might arises from.

Yundi is fantastic and way better than Lang lang in my opinion, but both are nothing compared to horowitz in his prime.

  • @Toxxic88 First of all, accusations of insanity should not be thrown around without medical evidence. Secondly, I did not mean "lang lang is better than horowitz." Rather, I mean when playing THIS piece, Lang Lang is better. I humbly suggest you listening to the three pianists respective versions of THIS piece on Youtube. Then, we can discuss it calmly and with goodwill. :-)

  • @Toxxic88 Opinions are opinions. Music is subjective, and you shouldn't call someone crazy because he likes someone's interpretation better than another. And yeah, I like Horowitz's interpretation better too, but that's just my opinion.

  • Such a peaceful melody.

  • jesus is king of all world! glory to his rising power of god!

  • @bass109 i know this psychologist that you might wanna talk to

  • @lunar607 o.O

  • @4898home read bass109's comment

  • Yundi totallly touches your soft spot...

Lang Lang, I just can't stand watching him, but of course he's talented...

  • This is a beautiful piece of music. Thanks for posting it!

  • Absolutely beautiful ...

  • So peaceful and beautiful. Full of nice memory.

  • The Peninsula Hong Kong...

  • what shall i say...thats very beautiful piece..makes all my senses moves, and make u remember ur wonderful times in the past...its very peaceful and beautiful piece..

  • he makes u what to be in love someone a mate for life.

  • 0:50 <-- I vividly remember doing that when I was small, now I can play so good. Time really does fly and it's amazing what can happen.

  • Do you guys see how emotions and inspiration can be expressed without words? It can be expressed win the simplest way possible, through your fingers.

  • MMmmm.... how he looks.....

  • dfgkjh

  • Beautiful.

  • nothing can be any better than playing the piano in your mullet hairstyle

  • VERY NICE 5 STARS ☆☆☆☆☆

    Erika Ragazzi

  • When Yundi li plays piano. He always makes me sit and listen to him playing. In the other hand, When Bang Bang plays piano, I always change to do something else.

  • @The00ching00 Yhea men thats true... try play piano men :D

  • lang lang is loud and fast. China needs that kind of player. represents aggressive chinese.

  • Comment removed

  • @iamvalwong

lang lang is not always loud, listen to him performing liebestraum

  • He just makes me fall in love with him every time =)

  • Видеоряд шедеврален! :)

  • ä ä ä ä ä ä ä ä ä ä ä ä ä ä ä ä ä ä ä ä ä!!!

such a pity there ain't no in american taaaaastature....

  • magnificent! he plays very very very well. and i also know that this is a video. but his face-expressions are just making it....

  • Horowitz is Horowitz, but I belong to the minority who prefers Yundi Li on this piece. He plays it gentler.

  • Ok Yundi Li is good but is it fair to all the other pianists that he plays and is recorded AT HOME? This way if he makes a mistake, he could easily restart as many times as he needs. Pianists that play in front of a live audience are under more pressure and they have only 1 chance.

  • @jemokjemok You have your facts wrong. Do you think that Yundi doesn't play live concerts all the time? He does. Do you think that recording artists don't constantly record in STUDIOS? They do. If you think you've found some pianist who SOLELY sells CDs if his or her live concert performances, you haven't. Yundi, by the way, also has plenty of live performances recorded and sold. In his concerts, he's under just as much pressure, moreso even than most concert pianists, yet he excels beyond most.

  • @jemokjemok I bet you're just feeling jealous. Are you one of those pianists who are pressured at thier performances with only ONE chance?

  • @jemokjemok

You're saying that as if Yundi Li doesn't play live also...just watch his performance in the 14th international Chopin competition; he plays perfectly for over an hour...over an hour of magnificently complex pieces. I would partly agree with you if Yundi Li was solely a 'home pianist', acclaimed for his 'home videos' - but he is not.

  • @jemokjemok

When recording individual pieces, it only makes sense to record it in a comfortable environment. There is no need to record it on an oil rig in the middle of a storm just to prove you can play "under pressure".

  • Romantic Robert Schumann ! " Traumerei " was written in 1838, when Schumann were 28. Yundi and Lang Lang have the same talent !

  • better than lang lang. not a bad version. at least he didnt embarass himself like lang lang's crappy version. of course Horowitz 1986 moscow concert is the best version of this song, but Yundi did fine here.

  • i don't think he tried to play Horowitz's version.. because at the end it's suppose to be like that.. haha just saying! they're both great!

  • This way play traumerei kids on conservatory, It´ s good but that´s all. I think Horowitz´s version is the best...

  • bravo

  • Not so good! He plays "Chopin" better.

  • I think he was studying Horowitz's recording/video here on YT when learning this piece. He even plays Horowitz's version of the part near the end.

  • great music!

  • sorry this stupid comment, but he has a really nice haircut :)

And he's one of my fav pianist of all time

  • awkward video, great audio

  • hilarious video :-)

  • He's just so, well, slimy.

  • brilliant piece played beautifully but what a pertentious video. I'm surprised they didn't make him do the thinker pose. not that I'm raggin on yundi cos he's great.

  • Outstanding piece of music.. I like the way he plays it. Great work..

  • Why can't we just watch him play. What's the deal with the living room thing...and don't tell me it's supposed to look as though he's dreaming, cause it doesn't!

  • @durkma2 - what the f is your problem???? Why are you such a loser who feels they have to leave disrespectfull comments? Next time you feel like talking....just dont!

  • wow..just get a life, man.

get a job or something more productive to do.

  • it isnt really overreacting. its telling you not to be so snyde and you are hilariuos, not anyone who tells you off. just listen to the wonderful schuman played by the wonderful li

  • Traumerei is German for Dreaming or Daydreaming because the song sounds Lofty and quite beautiful if I do say so myself! Schumann is genius!

  • Added to the fact that he looks very much like the Japanese pop star Takuya Kimura.

  • lol @ aamidjay

  • who cares how he looks, he plays so beautifully

  • No doubt he's amazing and his looks are irrelevant to his song. It's just hysterical when you check the covers of his Mozart albums/recordings and then you see an actual candid image of the man. Try it! You'll laugh!

  • @yiyiku i actually think he looks sweet :)

  • @zzhhaannggddii Yeah, I don't if it's the air, the light, the music... or what is it, but I think he's good-looking <3

  • @yiyiku yeah the awkward looks are really distracting and I feel detract from the piece

  • lol! xD~

but i like his wavy hair...

not to mention, it adds to the fact that he plays like an angel.... (^.^)

  • FranzFerencLiszt is come back!

  • Great Performance. Although I'm a fan of every piece that yundi li has played, especially the noc op 9 no2 and the campanella. I think Horowitz plays this piece way better than anyone else, hands down, when Horowitz plays it, it feels like you can see and taste the notes lol, i don't know how to describe it, that's just my opinion. Check him out, horowitz made people cry when he played this piece in the concert man, that old guy is crazy, or was sniff sniff.

  • I'm sure Yundi Li, at that age of the kid in the video, surely knows how to do more with the piano than poking at its keys

  • Poor Richter, Horowitz, Rubinstein, Michelangeli... They never had the opportunity to make video clips and convey their deep musical perceptions to the world... They all passed away without really being understood...

  • Well, there are Recordings of Horowitz, Rubinstein and Richter, even of Rachmaninoff. Why don't you Say that for Beethoven, Liszt etc. They were great pianists as well, but we will never know their interpretations even for their own pieces

  • I'm glad that you're aware of the recordings of Richter, Horowitz and the rest...

I suggest you read my comment once again to really understand what i mean..

    Cheers!

  • @xper2xper i've find that in many cases the visual aspect takes away from the music itself, but that's just my opinion.

  • @fuchion15

    I agree fully agree.

New pianists are not behaving as their seniors used to. That includes their dress code, manners at the piano, etc.. They don't have the "classical" look of a musician anymore.

Is this nice? Is this freedom? To my perception, no it's not. It's degeneration of some elegant manners of the past.

Can you imagine a pianist without a tie or bow-tie until 90s? I cannot.. Maybe that's why music was better then...

    Cheers!

  • Yes because the "music" degrades according to the attire of the musician. Give me a break. Are you feeble minded?

You are just mad that Yundi beats the hell out of every pianist before him.

This vid is obviously a casual video of him. He performs live in your rigorous demands in attire and outperforms the musicians of the past.

  • @yunal35Ca

Where have you seen that -although its far from my taste- Ive criticized Lis musical performance? Or is it your obsession for Li, making you so sensitive?

Clear that you are one of those:

    1. Not able to keep a discussion up and running without using foul language.

    2. Having an opinion without having knowledge.

Enjoy Li beating the hell out of the rest; whoever your rest is...

  • What foul language? Hell?

I'm just saying that your comment about "music was better [in the past]" was erroneous. Do you seriously believe that the quality of the musician is affected by his attire? That's pretty crazy!

This music is beautiful and Yundi is fantastic, open throat shirt and all!

  • @yunal35Ca Well.. attire does affect performance.. sometimes. Let's say if a suit was really tight.. or if it the sleeves were really loose.. such and such. But still, Yundi did a great job, as usual.

  • Lang Lang is good too but his ego is huge. I like Yundi better

  • horowitz more good

  • right, because in music there is a quantity of goodness, not a quality of goodness...

    /s

  • quantity of quality

  • yes i would like to know the story too.

  • Yundi Li is awesome... You should see him play Chopin's Fantasie Impromptu... This is absolutely beautiful performance.

  • I prefer Yundi much better than Lang Lang. He is very graceful and gentle.

  • Same :)

But LL does have his unique talents though :P

  • @lida15 I'm totally agree with u.

  • @lida15

Yundi Li shouldn't even be compared to Lang Lang... different league. Yundi Li is up there with E.Kissin.

  • @meaning1 mhh i don't know about that , i think yundi li is still better than E.kissin. Just my opinion

  • @Vernowned

At that standard it's subjective lol. I think I prefer Yundi Li, too. But I know many others will prefer Kissin. For Rachmaninov, I don't know anyone who plays like Kissin. For Chopin, it's Yundi Li.

  • @meaning1 I'd say he's superior to Kissin...

  • @meaning1 So Yundi Li is much better than Lang Lang? why is Lang Lang so famous and I've never heard of Yundi Li...

  • @lg123xyz

I have no idea how you could have not heard of Yundi Li if you enjoy classical music... He is one of the most acclaimed and respected pianists, along with Zimmerman, Kissin etc.

  • @lg123xyz

that's because Lang Lang likes it that way. Yundi Li is just too shy to show off like that.

  • @lg123xyz Fame and abilities are not the same thing. Lang Lang is very famous because the entities that control the business side of the classical music world have chosen to promote him like crazy. Classical music has its cabal/mafia/wizards of oz just like any other industry/government. Just remember that for every "star" of the last 100 years there are a dozen other equally good players. Search deep enough and you'll find many other lesser-known-yet-great players and interpretations.

  • @ginsuchop100 Then the question is WHY have they chosen to promote Lang and not Li? If indeed Li is superior what does that say about society then if for every "star" there are other better ones or equally good that never get the fame and fortune. You saying its all LUCK?

  • @lg123xyz Yes there are MANY others who are as good/better but don't have the same level of recognition. Some decide they are happy with being moderately known or would rather teach/do chamber music, others decide to focus on personal matters(family, others interests). Some are just unlucky or too old when they realize how to do the business aspects of classical music. My point is while the famous ones are really good they are just a small portion of the great talents/recordings out there

  • @lg123xyz cont. For example, Oscar Schumsky is not as widely known as others of his generation, nor is Sasa Vectomov. Many folks think Gould is the end-all of Bach keyboard interpretations/recordings but listeners often refer to others who surpass him like Koroliov, Nikolayeva, Tureck, Fellner, or in the case of the WTC, Edward Aldwell who surpasses everyone else.

  • @ginsuchop100 You seem to be very knowledgeable in Classical pianists. I agree on several points you mentioned particularly the focus on personal matters. I think this applies across all disciplines, sometimes "the best" isn't always the best particularly when it comes to music and art which can be so objective. Li's skill level certainly seems superior to those of Lang, so what's left is his interpretation skills... that's the only reasonable conclusion other than luck I can see... cont

  • ...perhaps people (esp in the West) gravitate more towards the individual who is more expressive, flamboyant, individualistic which is inline with western culture who favors the one as opposed to the whole (eastern culture). Perhaps that's why Lang stands out and has captured more attention from the media and public. Sometimes it's not always what you say but how you say it and the way you say it, most probably can't appreciate the technical aspect so they look for other outward signs. Sad.

  • @lg123xyz Yes you could be right about eastern/western cultures. Also, as China's economy/middle class gains more disposable income and interest in western arts, the Chinese market will be huge for the classical industry. Like Japan is right now. Another reason for the business heads to want larger-than-life stars who appeal across nationality/ethnicities. China is becoming a regular stop for touring musicians, famous or not.

  • @meaning1

    COUNDNT AGREE MORE!

  • @meaning1 don't forget argerich and horowitz, lang lang is just a joke over exaggerating his emotions for show.

  • @meaning1 Thank you! :D. Lang lang is very soft. but Yundi is at a perffect medium

  • @meaning1 Kissin? He's up there with Rubenstein.

  • @lida15 libra star sign, haha

  • Amazing feeling. Bravo Yundi.

  • I like your house, Yundi Li.

  • i remember i cried the whole night when my mom explained to me the story of this piece when i was a kid.

  • Can you tell us this story, please ?

  • yeah i would like to know as well

  • @koubache i'm not sure if the story is true. i don't where my mom heard of it.

So there was guy with HIV? (or some other disease that can spread around). He faced a lot of discrimination So he was forced to leave his village and went to an island. Many years later, he came back and visit. But he kinda hide his identity n his face cuz he got those spots. No one remembers him. At the end of the song, he was looking back while he was leaving the village again.Once again, I can't proof this story

  • what's the story!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • what's the story?

  • Superbe...

  • classical music video? lol

  • Incantevole.....

  • quite sensual way of playing but in the end for my taste a bit too schmaltzy. The 2 chords before the final chord are eighth notes...

  • This is as masterful a playing as Horowitz but without the punching out of melody. Some of the inner voices are much more communicative and vital in the elder statesman's interpretation, but overall Yundi Li's version sounds more simple and sincere.

  • That performance is amazing...:-)

  • Very lovely!

  • beautiful!

  • Can anyone tell how many Chinese people (sure mostly kids) play piano? Roughly 20MM, 30MM or 50MM?

  • Parents.

Yes they will force most of the
