  • You might get upset with Verhoeven as a fan of the book, but keep in mind no matter that if Verhoeven didn't make it someone else would have... and it still wouldn't have been like the book.

Just be glad the director who did make it had the ability to make an entertaining and satirical action movie with an underlying message and artistic, social and political substance rather than just a straight, run of the mill shoot em up.

  • This isn't the actual Starship Troopers movie, is it?

  • @WolfieboyMachi

Of course it is, why wouldn't it be`? :/

  • This country is a perfect utopia, it could only exist IF we got attacked by aliens, and countries united. Or if Hitler won

  • I trust the invasion is going well?

  • the Special FX still hold up very well today ... Paul Verhoven had a genius in him that can make Sci-Fi action fun, yet with a small comedic element which i love (i.e. Robocop, Total Recall)

  • why would the camera man just stand one meter away and film when a man is being eaten alive?

  • @Makrillol Because he thought it was freaking awesome, I guess?

  • I love this movie

  • So cheesey.

  • @Tikut0 It's supposed to be cheesy.

  • i'm a usa army veteran...i did my part too! :) lol

  • 14 people aren't doing their part

  • Starship trooper way of government should be given a shot

  • this reminds me of a military add from like the 1940s lol

  • :D

  • Thumbs up if you would punch that child!

  • @gmcclelland1992 I would punch any child for any reason.

But I'm just cool like that.

  • @bcouce Come on, not all children, just annoying ones like that kid, anakin skywalker, Macaulay Culkin.....and the list goes on to 2136!

  • @gmcclelland1992 Justin Bieber?

  • @bcouce Of course!

  • We're here to get the job done ;)

  • Gotta love how it shows brutal footage of soldiers being killed on an advert that is trying to get people to enlist

  • @tehMuffinMan100== I think that it was a live news report, not part of the recruitment ad.

  • Chogath?

  • WHY DIDNT WE JUST USE BUG SPRAY

  • @guitarhamster102 Fact is often more badass than fiction.

  • To be honest i prefer the movie Mobile infantry to the original book versions , this version seems more realistic

    1. I wouldn't reckon earth could afford to equip Millions of soldiers with the marauder suits or what ever they are called

    2. Since a only a couple of those arachnids could take on more than an 8 man section and with no armor support . The tactic of throwing thousands of men at the bugs seems pretty reasonable :D

  • Kapitan Bomba rozpierdoliłby tych wszystkich kosmitów w pojedynkę.

  • I've wondered for a while:

How the hell did an asteroid come that far that fast? I mean, do the bugs shoot wormhole plasma or something?

The adaptation from book to movie was horrible though... so I suspect it had something to do with the script and storyboard guys messing them up like usual.

  • @danschaoticmind

OR - and I know how crazy this sounds - perhaps the meteor was launched by the Federation itself, in order to justify the invasion of Klendathu...?

(and before you ask, I am NOT one of those "9/11 was an inside job" nutcases, I just think this idea within the context of the film is interesting...)

  • @thegreattotemaster Which would be suspect at best as a theory. You'll notice in the context of the film that the federation made it very difficult for the civilian to become a citizen. And even then recruiting was targeted based upon score. The novel doesn't even include a meteor strike and has more to do with the central question of citizen vs civilian.

  • @danschaoticmind

Aha. Yes. It's only a theory.

And while I've never read the novel the Starship Troopers movie is based on, I still class the SST novel and the SST films as two completely different things. Any theories I come up with are based entirely on the movie, within the context of the movie.

  • @thegreattotemaster= You may be right.

  • If this was the future, they should have MUCH better weapons than that lol. They should at least use incendiary rounds. Seriously, the M4 is probably MUCH better than the gun they use in the movie.

  • 12 people don´t doing there part

  • I'm doing my part: Die, ripped apart by bugs fighting for an uncaring government. Who wouldn't want that...

  • @Rykanable id still do it, someone has to

  • I love how it's totally impossible for the bugs to acttually be responsible for the meteor. Obviously the facsist earth government just used them as scapegoats.

  • @Sparkle071409 Well they could always use one of the plasma bugs to propel that meteor.

  • @180791sanguinius It seems impossible for them to aim something as small as earth from another side of the galaxy. Even human technology couldn't do that. A popular fan theory is that it was a set up by the government, just like the conspiracy theory that 9/11 was a setup(some people think it doesn't make sense the whole buildings went down very cleanly with airplanes crashing to the sides).

  • @kkksskkk Dunno, in the book the Bugs attacked first, though.

  • @180791sanguinius Yeah, but the movie couldn't be further from the book if it were on the sun.

  • wish this wer real :(

  • Funny, the bug homeworld is on the other side of the galaxy. The bugs have no access to any real space travel. But somehow they are able to send a meteorite halfway across the galaxy and hit their very precise, very small target, Earth? Sounds like a government explanation to me.

  • @dyne313 I can read Cracked too ;)

  • this movie was fuckin awesome!

  • Man i wish our world was like this xD I wanna go to klendathu and kill some fucking bugs! Im doing my part to hehehe xD

  • lol @0:58 wtf, thats not where our solar system is, we are on orion's arm

  • @GloomFate that meteor was going pretty fast, it must have knocked the earth away from the sun.

  • This is what the world would look like if the Nazis won...just less minorities.

  • This is what the world would look like if the Nazis won.

  • Why was sequel never made? This was great movie especially in its time

  • @Mariose123 There was... It was HORRIBLE

  • @TheMostSlyFox ah ye i remember them now :( maybe a new movie should come out,ofc better then sequels

  • @TheMostSlyFox I repressed it. Juuust like the Matrix and Highlander sequels. ^^

  • @Mariose123 There was and a third movie, they are TERRIBLE, do NOT watch.

  • @Albrtd3 I have it on Blu-ray. It was a gift. **vomits!**

  • If Verhoeven bothered to read the book, he'd know that the Federation would never make commercials like this, because they tried to dissuade people from joining the army.

It's a fun movie, what I hate is that no-one will ever make a TRUE Starship Troopers movie because this one. I don't even care about powered suits, I want to see the debates in the History and Moral Philosophy classes!

  • @jarvy251 The point of the movie is satire you know...

Also, the actual book is laughably bad considering how straight it plays everything.

I enjoy this movie, but I hate it's fans.

  • @MiRyRE

Yes, it's a satire of a book he never read, that's why its so infuriatingly terrible.

And... how straight it plays everything? What? The book wasn't a satire.

  • @jarvy251 Why? Can't you just, like, read them debates from the book and see them in your head?

  • @jarvy251 Same thing can be said about "We can Remember it for you Wholesale", better known as "Total Recall".

  • @jarvy251 Ya know, as much as I like this movie, you're right; its a cheesy ass fun film, but Starship Troopers it aint. I heard they're remaking it though, and that's one remake I'm not totally against.

...Although unlike you, its TOTALLY for the super awesome powered suits

  • @jarvy251 They're remaking Starship Troopers, so who knows?

  • @jarvy251

That's what makes it a close adaptation, and not a textual adaptation. Verhoeven is - apparently- planning on making a remake of SS1, this time for real.

I'm loving the book, but part of the series HAS to do with mobile suits. You can't take that out. Starship Troopers is the source of inspiration for series like Mobile Suit Gundam.

  • @Persiana

Yeah the powered suits being absent sucked, but the real problem was that he portrayed the MI as the exact opposite of what it was. Instead of a highly trained and extremely skilled small cadre of professionals, they were disposable conscript to be fed into a meat grinder.

  • @jarvy251 True that. My favorite scene from the movie was when they were being trained. The book emphasizes so much on that, it dennotes the level of perfection in body and mind they achieve after training.

  • @jarvy251 Think of them as different works of art that delve into different areas to satire and to celebrate. Don't get upset about the movie just because it borrows the dressings of the book.

  • @jarvy251 It's like he took the core from the Starship Troopers book and then the army, monster action and propaganda rubbish from the Warhammer 40k universe. ಠ_ಠ

  • @jarvy251 I wouldn't mind seeing a SST movie based on the book but if this movie didn't kill it the second and 3rd ones did.

  • @jarvy251 This movie is a brilliant satire of American militarism and neoliberal globalization. It's its own thing. Movies have always taken books as starting points for something different, and we should judge/interpret them on their own merit. Films like The Shining and virtually all of Hitchcock's movies are very different from the books, but also way awesome. Much like Starship Troopers.

  • God i love this movie. Boobies, guns, war, and aliens. Best movie of all time.

  • @NinjaMoose234 Movie? i thought it was a documentary.

  • @NinjaMoose234 Yep! Boobies always come first.

  • @NinjaMoose234 lol indeed

  • Why do all of the Starship Troopers do not give citizenship to people? That is wrong!

  • Man they did it all wrong... They should have had a giant magnifying glass in space and focus the dual sun's light to burn Klendathu's surface to ashes. :P

  • @SlyNicolai

I hear you. It's like a shotgun shell. Instead of a massive slug you have a buckshot spreading damage all over the place. And this is going to be even more fatal.

  • YES I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE

  • Starship Troopers is Nazisam!

  • @ixtoothint it's more of fascism

  • @MetalGrim93 How is it fascism?

  • @ixtoothint Cuz in the book it is and fascist

  • @MetalGrim93 What does ''fascist'' mean?

  • @ixtoothint Someone willing to do anything for the "State" or in Starship Troopers case "The Ferderation"

  • @MetalGrim93 I am so thankful that this society is not fascist.

  • We're here to get the job done!

  • How is it live when they're light years away from Earth.

  • @Olamtir

Probably some sort of subspace communication. Or they don't use radiowaves to transmit messages anymore.

  • I had to watch this film because P.Verhoeven was its director. He made brilliant RoboCop, Totall Recall and Basic Instinct. And yes, Starship Troopers was great. Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer & Jake Busey did a great job. Critics gave many negative reviews to this movie but I think ST is one of the most underrated Sci-Fi films of the 90's (along with Strange Days, Alien 3, Them, Lawnmower Man, Virtuosity, FutureSport, The Time Shifters, The Apocalypse, The Arrival, Mimic, Virus, Space Truckers)

  • Lame movie is lame.

The movie MI are the most inept fictional military ever, Heinlein's MI were the original basasses.

Three words are all you need to know: Personal. Nuclear. Weapons.

These guys have glorified M16s and terrible dialogue.

  • @cm275 I would have loved to see the powered armor suits.

Dear God, please let someone make a faithful adaptation (preferably a miniseries), before I die. And let someone establish a timocratic republic someday. Amen.

  • 10 freaking bugs watched this! We gotta nuke'em!

  • excuse me sir i am no ape. I Wear pants and a shirt.

  • @OrganicThumb420

    so do apes :D

  • if an ape wears clothes then he should get full citizenship status and the right to bear arms and vote.

  • @OrganicThumb420

well dont we already have some apes doing it?

  • oh ya i forgot about texas

  • If they'd had the executions they did in ST3 then I could have known that this was a "anit-War" pic. But they made it such fun that it was very hard to get.

  • This reminds me of Earth Defense Force 2017

  • good film

    !

  • I'm doing my part!

  • 'Join the mobile infantry, throw your life away in the most horrible way possible'.

That's what they are really trying to say. O_o

  • freaking lol.

  • @MrTeatime You, sir. Are clearly my new god.

  • who is your new god i am looking for a new religion i would gladly pay to pray to youre new god. does he have pay pal.

  • Well.....at least they got it on camera

  • the book....

    was better

  • did he died?

  • thats future news and I BET they know a asteroid was moving towards rio de janero but the world goverment was like: ahh let the bugs destroy a town so we can say we need to go to war cause we have been attacked first! WAIT A MINUTE sounds like a inside job and it remember me of something! ahh jeah like 70% of wars start like that :)

  • @beavisCS it wasn't Ro de janeiro. It was Buenos Aires.

  • @vancksdaniel I haven´t been sure about that :) but you are right I checked it afterwards.

  • @beavisCS buenos aires but ok

  • @beavisCS Yes and i've also heard that 70% of all statistics are made up so the person talking can make a point in there favor.

  • @XXGDUBSXX sounds like pearl harbor, but i bet you think we were caught COMPLETELY OFF GUARD about the only foreign attack on US soil for over 200 years.

  • @Jarekx2007 ???

  • @beavisCS Yeah, I think the movie implies that Earth knew about the meteor.

  • @beavisCS I assume you're referring to Pearl Harbor, which was perpetrated by the Smurfs and funded by the Keebler Elves?

  • Comment removed

  • @beavisCS

Just what we need, another conspiracy theorist

  • @SuperKenshin69 conspiracy? wtf is wrong with you buddy? its not a conspiracy its a realy genius plan I would do it the same way like the did it in this movie. as long you dont call me conspiracy terrorist everything is okay :P

  • Replace bugs with Muslims and this vid becomes no different from a Fox News broadcast.

Except that Geraldo hasn't been owned yet.

  • They're doing their part, are you? Join the Mobile Infantry and save the world! Service guarentees citizenship? And getting ripped to shreds by mutant alien insects? Fuck you news narrator.

  • this is so corny, i love it

  • 1:38

    Bug: Dominated, idiota. ;)

  • 9 people are from what Cap Troops are calling "Big K", it's an ugly planet, a bug planet, a planet hostile to-WOHOAAHHAURRGHUHGRH

  • oh boy a meteor from the big K will take MILLIONS OF YEARS to get to Planet Earth

  • ok first of all WTF?!?!?

everyone knows that when you fight zombies, giant bugs, dinos, whatsoever that comes to you to rip you apart in close quarters you dont issue soldiers the assault rifles but the SHOTGUNS (or heavy weaponry like flame thrower and such).

  • "I'm doing my part too" *smiles*

  • 0:14 I'm doing my part, too! And what the hell?? Are they playing the U.S. Air Force song because that's what it sounds like.

  • @jones13013

What do you think of Avatar or Transformers's CGI?

  • @Johnlindsey289

transformers is gay. avatar looks faker because the creatures are more fleshy and colorful, so you can see the imperfections better. the sharp, plasticky cgi of the time blends in with insect characteristics so its less noticebale. that said, the animaiton, scale, and lighting are fantastic, looks damn realistic. but starship troopers used tons of real life extras, sets, and some animatronics. i suppose that puts avatar at a disadvantage since all theirs was cgi. beats star wars

  • Decent movie, great book. Klendthu vs. Pandora, which is a more exotic planet?

  • explain to me why. it takes 6 soldiers to gun down 1 bug in this scene but only one guy to gun down an entire zerg rush at the end.

  • @Aloradelyda ooooh, you are one of those smart viewers right? One of the critical ones! Yeah yeah, I can tell you are smart by seeing flaws in logic in a satirical action movie which is about people fighting huge bugs.

I bet you own a lot of transformers too, amirite?

  • @goodflo911 and ontop of that, why didn't we see those flying dudes in any of the other movies

  • It's an ugly planet! A bug planet! A planet hostile to life as we know it!

  • I'm doing my part... to legalize marijuana in California!!!!

  • God, ugly actors !

  • @bagocross08 Ze bugs are smart, they launched it through a wormhole.

  • People underestimate Verhoeven and his satire. I would call him an expert on fascism, and this his his take on and reaction to the book. I think it is a masterpiece.

  • @frambosidica to call it "his take on [...] the book" would be stretching it, since he hated the book and didn't even read it through. He had an idea similar on the surface to the book, and someone figured out that they could ride on Heinlein's reputation.

It's not a bad film though (as action films go), it's just not Starship Troopers in any way, shape or form.

  • @Alkanen It's a parody and lampshading of just how fascist the book is, really. And yes, the book is VERY fascist. It's about as "Humanity, FUCK YEAH!!" As it gets.

  • @vp21ct The book is indeed pro-military. I think that Verhoeven made a smart move with this film: instead of understating the right-wing undertones of the book he instead decided to overstate them, effectively parodying them.

    This movie is underrated.

  • @frambosidica True. It's also plain sad that the two sequels (not by verhoeven, there was no need for a sequel) are just redundant action movies

  • @frambosidica How exactly was Heinlein's proposed system in the book "fascism."

Mostly I was pissed that they left out the powered armor... Fuckers.

  • @frambosidica

That'd be cool and all except the fuck face even admitted he didn't even finish the damn book before doing the movie.

  • @frambosidica the guy was amazing, the special effects were also really good for the time, even robocop 2 looks really good by todays standards.

  • @frambosidica He didn't even finish it.

  • The movie was more or less a satire of the book... Verhoeven (who also directed RoboCop, another satire whose message went over the heads of quite a few) didn't like the book at all. Read up!

  • @aclerok This movie was no reaction to Heinlein's novel, according to "American Cinematographer" magazine the novel was optioned well into the pre-production of this film which had the working title "Bug Hunt on Outpost Nine": most of the writting team reportedly were unaware of the novel at the time, and according to the DVD commentary, Paul Verhoeven never finished reading the novel claiming he read through the first few chapters and became both "bored and depressed"

  • @alpha8147 Uh, thanks, un-sourced wikipedia passage! I'm sorry, but it is clearly a satire of the book. I'm not saying that makes it good, but that's what it is. "Starship Troopers - A SciFi Anti-War Parable on DVD" is a decent article about it.

  • there is also the CGI animated series that revealed the Bugs where in the Sol Starsystem on pluto and the meteros where actualy being fired at earth from inside the solor system, the suits covered it up hoping nuking Big K would solve their problems, they also knew about the Bugs before the war started.

  • I'm doing my part!!!!! 3 days later I wound up in a hospital!!!!!

  • perfect teeth, they must use pepsodent

  • probably my favorite movie

  • Im so using this in my english exam tomorrow. Love the troopers. I have to write about how the media forms opinions

  • @jones13013 so true i cant even noticed the fx of this movie are from 90`s

  • im doing my part fresh meat for the grinder eh!

  • Hey... he just got eaten.

Oh, record it. It'll make nice propaganda later on.

    Okay!
