My cattle dog is a one person dog. She will protect our family to the end but she is extremely vicious toward any other animal and also doesn't like kids. I have 4 dogs and she has to live in my bedroom because she attacks all of the other dogs. I love her to death but have no idea what to do with her.
I love the markings- i don't think my dog Jess is 100% ccattle- but she does have that little white strip between her eyes and has some of the grey/white markings- but has a softter coat, black saddle and a little more hair around her neck- so thinking part border collie??? She is just starting to experience tracking/searching and LOVES it
Great video. I'm wondering about the blue-eyed dog. Must be a mix? We have two wonderful blue heelers in Panama. They love the beach, chasing lizards and our male loves to surf! See Roscoe surfs on Youtube
@shannoncopley LOL!! A Cattle Dog Stubborn? Never!!!! LOLOLOL!! Mine's always trying to herd me. And he has a stubborn streak a mile wide. But he is very sweet and protective. He never leaves my side. They are simply AWESOME dogs. Great video!
@Chadellac1 Neither do we humans, but we managed to live in a big town didnt we? So if we can live in apartments, so can any dog of any breed. I've seen a lot of farmers like yourself to say that we can't love a dog just cos we live in a big city. My ACD has a very active life. He goes to a dog gym, does agility, learns lots of tricks and if friendly with my cat. There's no excuse for us and for the dogs to get fat and lazy just cos we live in a big city, gyms are there for that.
@Chadellac1 I disagree with you immensely! I live in Tempe (5min. from Phoenix) Arizona, and my beautiful rescue Heeler, Nugget, is as happy as can be! We go to the dog parks, out for runs and bike rides, we go to the lake and go swimming and have a blast! At the pub everyone yells out his name, he jumps on a stool, they give him water and he is HAPPY! I'm starting to think some people just like to say they own a ranch...BIG FREAKIN' DEAL! If you're gonna be a turd, go lay in the yard...idiot.
I agree. I've been told my rescue Border Collie doesn't belong in a town either but he seems perfectly happy with his town life, although I do regularly take him to the country to run and explore.
i have had many blue heelers, i haven't seen one "mean" bone in their bodies. that being said... these are the least "tame" dogs I have ever owned. they are abotu 3 seconds from being wild. very instinctual mini wolves.
@xxxxsevakxxxx Blue Heelers Dont often bark much, unless someone is crossing into their territory. depending on if you get a pure bred blue heeler or one that is mixed. a pure bred bluey will grow an average size much similar to a kelpie. if you get a Cross breed then you will notice they can be smaller or a little bit bigger than usual. hope that is some help for you :)
this video actually bought a tear to my eye, its been a year now since my dog was baited and i came home and found him dead.. it was only a few days after my 18th birthday
@IMPL0SION mate that is so fucked up i'm so sorry to hear about Clancy i really hope you find the fucking assholes that did that & do the same thing back to them i know i would be hunting the prick's down if anyone did anything to my Oakie
Maaaateee.... in Australia we use these dogs for hunting too. although depending on the prey there may be better suited dogs. They are all-round champions!
Just curious what they're like for hunting and what roll do they play. I mean, how do you use them for hunting? Do use them as retrievers? to track or flush game?
@nichins My ACD can retrieve or Track, he can find anything. The only thing we had to do was teach him to use his nose. ACD's do not use their nose as their first instinct. They depend on their eyes and ears first. But once you teach them they dont forget.
@nichins hey mate alot of guy's on the farms & city people as well use cattle dogs for hunting over here in oz but not really for retrieving ducks or birds there would be nothing left of the bird by the time you got there they use them for pig hunting & roo hunting as well, they will track too infact they are excellent tracker's i've had a few cattle dog's over the year's & they are without a doubt the best working dog on the planet get 1 yourself 1 you won't regret it!
@nichins kelpies = better for sheep same as stumpy tail Cattle dogs but the origibnal bule and red heelers are great for cattle as they are fast smart and agile. I have a blue heeler X Kelpie but he is a house dog that gets 3 hrs exerssice a day xD but he prefer to laze round the home
The ACD (red collar) at 1:15 looks just like the one I had for 9 years. I had to "put him down" 4 years ago (Anemia). I'm now on my second ACD....and wouldn't have any other breed.
ihave a red heeler named rascal hes the best i ever had super loyal protective and easily learn tricks
